A bulk WhatsApp check is usually an asynchronous job, not a single request that instantly returns a yes-or-no answer for every number. Normalize and deduplicate the list, submit it once, save the job ID and billing details, then collect and reconcile each result—keeping registered, inactive, unknown, and review distinct. That last distinction matters: an unresolved number is not a confirmed negative, and a registration result is not permission to message someone.

What happens during a bulk WhatsApp check?

A bulk check typically follows a job lifecycle: submit a batch of numbers, receive a task or job identifier, wait for processing, and then retrieve results by polling, webhook, download, or pagination. This asynchronous model lets a provider handle a list as one job, but it also means the application must keep track of that job after the initial request ends.

For example, CheckNumber describes its API as a bulk, file-based, asynchronous API: submit a task, poll for status, and download results. Its documented task states include pending, processing, and exported. MobileValidate documents status polling and a webhook for completed jobs. Those are different delivery mechanisms for the same operational need: do not treat the submission response as the completed verification result.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The implementation should connect every input row to the job that produced its answer. Without the task ID, lookup time, and billing reference, it becomes difficult to explain why a number has a particular status, decide whether it needs a recheck, or reconcile the provider’s charge.

What do registered, inactive, unknown, and review mean?

In the four-state model described by ZelNum, the states carry different meanings and should not be collapsed into a Boolean “on WhatsApp” field. The model is vendor-specific; other providers use different schemas, so map their output explicitly before it enters your application.

State What it says Suggested handling
Registered The result positively asserts WhatsApp registration. Pass it only to an authorized downstream workflow; keep consent and other policy checks separate.
Inactive The number is not usable now, but that does not establish that an account can never exist. Exclude it from the current send and, if appropriate, consider a later recheck.
Unknown The lookup did not resolve the number to a definite answer. Keep it unresolved and route it to a retry queue or other defined exception path.
Review The result is held for human or policy review rather than presented as a definitive negative. Hold it for the appropriate review process; do not silently convert it to inactive.

These labels are not universal WhatsApp states. CheckNumber documents an activated field with yes or no; MobileValidate documents registered as true, false, or unknown. A provider’s “no” or “false” should not automatically be treated as the same thing as ZelNum’s inactive state unless the provider defines it that way. Keep the raw provider value alongside your mapped internal state so that later schema changes or audits do not erase what the provider actually returned.

How do you submit a list without paying twice?

Preventing duplicate paid jobs starts before submission. The risky case is a timeout: your client may not know whether the provider accepted the request, and sending the same batch again can create a second job and charge.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Normalize the input. Convert numbers to E.164 format where possible, retaining the original CRM identifier and original value for traceability. CheckNumber requires one E.164 number per line. MobileValidate supports recognized phone-column names and a default country for entries without a leading plus sign.
  2. Validate and deduplicate locally. Identify impossible values and repeated numbers before paying for a lookup. MobileValidate documents that invalid and duplicate rows are not checked or billed in its workflow; do not assume another provider handles those rows the same way.
  3. Fingerprint the normalized batch. Calculate a stable fingerprint from the normalized list and store it before making the request. ZelNum recommends storing the batch fingerprint beside the returned task ID. The fingerprint gives your application a way to recognize that a retry may be the same submission, not a new batch.
  4. Record the submission intent. Persist the fingerprint, request metadata, and UTC submission time before sending. If the provider offers an idempotency key, use it as documented. MobileValidate documents an Idempotency-Key for job creation; that is a provider-specific safeguard, not a feature to assume is available everywhere.
  5. Submit once and save the receipt. Store the task ID as soon as it is returned, along with the provider’s cost estimate or charge information. ZelNum says its documented charge is deducted at submission, before completion. MobileValidate documents estimate-first pricing and maximum-cost controls, a different billing pattern.
  6. Reconcile ambiguous timeouts. If the client times out before receiving a task ID, mark the submission as uncertain. Check for an existing job through the provider’s supported task lookup or support process before submitting again; the available provider documentation must determine how that check works. Do not interpret a missing client response as proof the job was never accepted.
  7. Collect and account for the result. Poll or receive the completion webhook, retrieve all result pages or files, then reconcile the final charge against the task ID—not merely against an application log that says “send started.”

Persisting the estimated cost, maximum cost where supported, actual charge, and final task status provides a useful audit trail. These values answer different questions: what the application expected to spend, what limit it requested, what the provider charged, and whether the job completed.

How should results be stored and routed?

Store a result as a record tied to both the submitted job and the input identity. A practical record includes the original CRM identifier, original phone value, normalized E.164 value, raw provider response, mapped internal state, task ID, UTC lookup timestamp, and billing reference. Keep earlier lookup records rather than overwriting them when a number is checked again; otherwise the system loses the history needed to understand when a result changed.

Define a separate downstream path for each meaningful state:

  • Registered: make eligible for the authorized messaging workflow, subject to its independent consent and policy checks.
  • Inactive: suppress from the current send. A later recheck may be appropriate if the use case and policy allow it.
  • Unknown: retain as unresolved and route according to a retry policy. Do not treat a retry as a new paid job without checking the original task and billing status.
  • Review: hold for human or policy review. It should not enter a send simply because it is not labeled inactive.

The retry policy should specify what happens after an unknown result, how long to wait, how many attempts are allowed, and how those attempts are recorded. The available vendor descriptions do not establish one universal retry interval or limit, so set those according to the chosen provider’s documented behavior and the application’s risk tolerance. Preserve each attempt as a separate event linked to the relevant job.

How long does a large job take?

Use a provider’s stated throughput to estimate elapsed processing time, but distinguish throughput from the maximum number of rows accepted in one request or job. A large upload limit does not mean the entire batch finishes immediately, and it does not remove the need to pace requests, poll responsibly, handle retries, or back off when processing is still underway.

Provider and documented limit What the figure describes Qualification
ZelNum: 10,000 numbers per minute Documented processing rate Vendor technical article, 2026; actual job duration depends on that documented rate being available to the job.
ZelNum: 10,000 numbers per request Request ceiling Vendor technical article, 2026.
ZelNum: about 100 minutes for one million numbers Approximate time at the stated rate Vendor calculation based on its documented rate, 2026; not a guarantee of completion time.
ZelNum: roughly 17 hours for ten million numbers Approximate time at the stated rate Vendor calculation based on its documented rate, 2026; not a guarantee of completion time.
CheckNumber: up to 10,000,000 rows Maximum documented rows for the ws, ws_active, and ws_avatar task types Official API repository, accessed 2026; this is a task row ceiling, not a processing-rate claim.
MobileValidate: up to 50,000 numbers and email addresses Maximum documented rows per job Provider documentation, 2026; the stated job capacity is not a throughput figure.

At ZelNum’s stated 10,000 numbers per minute, the arithmetic for one million is 100 minutes, while ten million is about 1,000 minutes, or 16 hours 40 minutes—hence the vendor’s roughly 17-hour estimate. Real completion times can differ if the job is queued, the documented rate is not continuously available, or the workflow includes additional stages. Do not infer that launching multiple jobs in parallel will increase effective throughput: if the provider’s rate limit is the bottleneck, parallel submissions can add complexity without making the list finish sooner.

Do you need a WhatsApp Business account?

The bulk-check descriptions here concern vendor APIs and job workflows, not a requirement to create a WhatsApp Business account. The available documentation does not establish a universal account prerequisite across providers, so verify the chosen provider’s current access requirements rather than assuming that the check itself either requires or replaces a WhatsApp account.

More importantly, a lookup is not an account relationship or a contact permission. CheckNumber says its API is intended for authorized list verification and enrichment, not messaging or contact discovery. MobileValidate says to use your own customer or contact list and emphasizes that a registered result is not consent. ZelNum’s state model likewise answers a registration-related question; it does not establish that the person supplied the number for your purpose or agreed to receive the proposed messages.

What should you compare when choosing a provider?

Compare the job mechanics and the meaning of the output, not just the maximum file size. Provider-specific limits, billing, retention, supported geography, and policies can change, so confirm the current documentation for the service and region you intend to use.

Decision area What to verify Documented examples
State granularity Whether outputs are Boolean, three-state, or more detailed, and how unresolved rows are represented. ZelNum describes four states; CheckNumber documents activated yes/no; MobileValidate documents registered true, false, or unknown.
Billing timing and controls When a charge is incurred, whether a cost estimate or cap is available, and how actual charges are reported. ZelNum says its charge is deducted at submission; MobileValidate documents estimate-first and maximum-cost controls.
Retry safety Whether job creation supports idempotency, how a job can be looked up after a timeout, and how duplicates are handled. MobileValidate documents an idempotency key and duplicate handling; ZelNum recommends a batch fingerprint stored with the task ID.
Scale Separate the per-request or per-job row ceiling from the processing rate. The documented row ceilings and rate figures above are provider-specific; they are not interchangeable measures.
Result delivery Whether completion is detected through polling, webhook, downloadable file, or paginated results. CheckNumber documents polling and result download; MobileValidate documents polling and a completed-job webhook.
Input handling Required number format, country defaults, recognized columns, duplicate treatment, and invalid-row billing. CheckNumber requires one E.164 number per line; MobileValidate documents phone-column recognition, default-country handling, and unbilled invalid and duplicate rows.
Data lifecycle and policy Retention and deletion terms, supported countries, permitted use, and applicable consent obligations. These details are not established by the figures above; verify the provider’s current terms and documentation.

ZelNum is the closest fit when the application needs a documented four-state model and its submit-time billing behavior is acceptable. CheckNumber is an example of a file-based submit-poll-download workflow with a large task row ceiling. MobileValidate is a useful fit to examine when estimate-first cost controls, an idempotency key, and explicit unknown handling are priorities. These distinctions do not establish that any one provider is best for every list, region, or policy context.

What does a WhatsApp check not prove?

Keep three separate questions separate: whether a number is syntactically plausible, whether a provider reports it as registered, and whether its owner has opted in to the messages you plan to send. A formatting check addresses the first question; a registration lookup addresses the second; neither answers the third.

Use verification only for an authorized list and the purposes allowed by the provider and applicable rules. Do not treat bulk checking as a way to discover people to contact. A positive result can help route an existing, permission-based record, but the permission must come from a separate and appropriate source.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a WhatsApp registration check guarantee that a message will be delivered?

No delivery guarantee is established by the registration result described here. Treat the lookup as a registration-related signal, not a promise about later delivery, account availability, or a specific message.

Can I run a bulk check on a list I found online?

The documented guidance is to verify an authorized list, such as your own customer or contact records, not to use checks for contact discovery. A registration result does not grant permission to contact the person.

Does a bulk checker replace WhatsApp’s own account or messaging setup?

No. A third-party verification job and a messaging account or sending workflow are separate things. The provider materials described here do not establish a universal WhatsApp Business account prerequisite for checking.

Should I delete the original number after normalizing it to E.164?

Keep the original CRM identifier and original value alongside the normalized number. That lets you reconcile provider results to the source record and preserves context if a normalization choice needs review.
