Pasanaku’s development moved through three distinct stages: first, putting a traditional trusted savings circle onchain; next, adding dynamic pool NFTs without changing who participants had to trust; and finally, requiring overcollateralized deposits so people who do not know one another could participate. The project’s developer describes the last stage as “trustless,” but collateral and smart contracts do not remove every risk.
What a pasanaku does—and what an onchain version changes
A pasanaku is a rotating savings pool: members contribute a set amount on a schedule, and one member receives the combined contributions in each round. In the traditional arrangement described by the project’s developer, participants know one another. That matters because someone who receives an early payout still needs to keep contributing in later rounds. The structure therefore depends on members trusting each other to meet their obligations.
ROSCASH describes Pasanaku as a Bolivian regional form of a rotating savings circle, with weekly or monthly contributions and the fund passing to members in turn. Its explainer also mentions goods-based variants. This is useful context, not a basis for estimating how many people participate globally: ROSCASH’s Pasanaku explainer.
A smart contract can record contributions and distribute a pool according to its programmed rules. But moving a familiar savings arrangement onchain does not, by itself, solve the question of whether members will keep contributing. The project’s developer, Rafael Abuawad, describes that as the central design challenge: “The real question was whether Pasanaku could work between people who did not know or trust one another.”

V1: putting the trusted arrangement onchain
The first version preserved the traditional trust relationship while moving pool administration into a contract. According to Abuawad’s account, the implementation was written in Vyper, represented pools using ERC-1155 token IDs, and initially supported ETH, USDC and USDT.
Participants were added manually, deposited their contributions, and the person assigned to a round claimed the pooled payout. The contract handled receipt and distribution of funds, but did not remove the assumption that participants would honor future contributions. In practical terms, it automated parts of a trusted circle rather than making the circle trustless.

V1.5: dynamic NFTs changed the pool’s representation, not its trust model
The next version was ported to Solidity to support dynamic, fully onchain NFT metadata. Abuawad says a custom ERC-1155 descriptor read pool state and generated each pool’s representation, making the token’s metadata reflect the pool.
That made pool state more visible in its onchain representation, but it did not change who could safely join: participants still needed to know and trust everyone else. The developer later judged that dynamic metadata alone did not add enough value for this use case. It was a change in how a pool was represented, not in how the pool managed the risk of someone taking an early payout and stopping contributions.

V2: overcollateralization changes the incentive structure
For the later design, the developer’s stated goal was to let people participate without already knowing one another. The proposed mechanism requires a participant to provide collateral worth more than the pool’s full payout before joining. In principle, collateral exceeding that obligation gives the protocol a way to cover a participant’s unpaid share under its rules, rather than relying solely on personal trust.
Abuawad says the design narrowed supported assets to USDC and sent collateral to Fluid to make it productive. The developer presents yield as an additional reason to join and remain in the system. This is a design rationale, not a guarantee of a particular return: the account does not establish current rates, collateral-management or liquidation behavior, or whether the described deployment is currently active.

Overcollateralization changes incentives; it does not make risk disappear. A participant’s protection depends on the contract’s rules and how collateral is valued and handled. The available project account does not establish an independent security audit, the controls used to manage collateral risk, or a guarantee that collateral will retain its value or earn yield.

Abuawad describes the resulting protocol as a single smart contract that is also a soulbound ERC-1155. In the described interface, users can see collateral, interest rates, available pools and their own active pools; the interface also coordinates onchain steps. These are details from the developer’s account, not an independent verification of the current contract, deployment or interface.

The developer also reports a 99% Lighthouse score for the interface. That is a self-reported result, not an independently reproduced measurement. The project account does not establish the current network, contract addresses, supported wallets, active pool availability or audit status, so readers should not treat this development description as confirmation of what is live today.
What is planned—and what should not be mistaken for a live feature
The developer describes better discovery and joining as upcoming, and mentions composability and a possible secondary market as future ideas. Those are roadmap possibilities, not confirmed features of the protocol as described. They would also raise separate design questions—for example, how users assess a pool before joining and what a transferable claim would mean in a system whose current token is described as soulbound.
Other blockchain savings projects make different choices. ETHGlobal’s showcase for Savio, a separate ROSCA-inspired project, describes collateral, rotating or auction-based payout mechanisms, and collateral deployed into yield strategies.
