Rachaad White is no longer a Buccaneer: NFL.com lists him with Washington for 2026. Tampa Bay’s Week 1 depth chart instead puts Bucky Irving first, Kenny Gainwell second and Sean Tucker third. That makes Irving, Gainwell and Tucker the relevant comparison for current Buccaneers fantasy value; White’s Tampa Bay production is useful historical context, not a guide to his Washington workload.
Who is the Buccaneers’ lead running back?
Tampa Bay’s Week 1 2026 depth chart lists Bucky Irving ahead of Kenny Gainwell and Sean Tucker. The team also described Gainwell as replacing White as Irving’s main complement. That order is a useful starting point, but it does not guarantee a particular share of snaps, carries, targets or goal-line work. The team’s published materials do not establish those 2026 shares.
The current ranking should be treated as a role clue, not a fantasy projection. Gainwell’s placement behind Irving suggests competition for the complementary role; Tucker is also on the roster and may factor into the rotation. Actual workloads need to be judged from game usage as the season unfolds.
What the 2025 numbers do—and do not—show
Tampa Bay’s 2026 running-back review reports the following 2025 rushing totals:

These totals are not a clean forecast of 2026 roles. Irving’s season included a lengthy injury absence, so his total reflects missed availability as well as his place in the offense. White’s carries and yards belong to a previous Tampa Bay roster. And the cited figures do not provide a comparable 2026 workload baseline for Gainwell.
Why White’s receiving role mattered in Tampa Bay
White’s value was not limited to rushing. NFL.com’s 2025 regular-season statistics list 40 catches for 218 receiving yards and no receiving touchdowns, alongside 132 carries for 572 yards and four rushing touchdowns. In a full-PPR league, catches directly add points; in standard scoring they do not, though targets and routes can still signal opportunity.
Tampa Bay’s review also described White’s screen and checkdown involvement and his value in pass protection. The Buccaneers reported that, from 2023 through the end of 2025, he ranked among running backs No. 3 in receiving touchdowns (nine), No. 5 in yards after catch (1,432), No. 7 in receptions (153) and No. 7 in receiving yards (1,142). Those are cumulative rankings for that period, not White’s 2025-only totals. They help explain why rushing yards alone understated the role he had held in Tampa Bay, but they do not establish how Washington will use him.

How to compare Irving, Gainwell and Tucker for fantasy
Use the same workload checklist for each back, and separate observed usage from your own projection. The available team and NFL sources establish roster context and selected 2025 figures; they do not provide verified 2026 fantasy rankings or workload-share projections.

1. Track opportunity, not just season totals
- Record snaps, carries, routes, targets and total touches game by game.
- Mark games affected by injury, a return-to-play ramp or a teammate’s absence; do not assume those workloads represent a healthy-game share.
- Look for a role that persists across several games rather than treating one spike as a permanent promotion.
2. Separate rushing and receiving value
Compare carries with routes and targets. Targets can reveal involvement before catches, yards or touchdowns accumulate, while receptions matter most directly in PPR formats. A back who is used on passing downs can retain fantasy value even when rushing opportunities are divided.
3. Watch scoring chances and blocking trust
Red-zone carries, goal-line attempts and receiving touchdowns are distinct from ordinary touches: they create chances for high-value scores. Track them separately, and be cautious about reading too much into a small-sample touchdown total. Third-down work and pass protection can help explain why a back stays on the field, but neither by itself proves he will receive a large fantasy workload.

4. Adjust for health and competition
Reassess when a teammate misses time or returns. Irving’s 2025 absence illustrates how one player’s missed games can create extra work for another; a replacement’s accumulated season total may therefore overstate his expected role when the full group is available. Tampa Bay’s training-camp preview discusses the backs’ roles and the team’s line-injury context, but those team assessments are expectations, not guarantees.
5. Apply your league’s scoring and decision
State whether you are evaluating standard, half-PPR or full-PPR scoring. Season-long roster value and a one-week start/sit choice are different questions: the former depends on a role’s likely durability, while the latter also depends on that week’s health, matchup and available alternatives. No verified current fantasy projection is established by the cited sources, so any numerical ranking should be presented as your analysis rather than a reported fact.

What to monitor as the season progresses
For updated decisions, check Tampa Bay’s live depth chart alongside game-by-game usage. Depth charts can change, and neither a listing nor a team preview supplies a guaranteed touch split. The most useful evidence will be whether Irving holds the lead role, whether Gainwell receives a steady share of carries or passing-down work, and whether Tucker earns recurring touches or scoring opportunities.
