What happened in the Bradford-Scott data breach?
Bradford-Scott Data, LLC provides technology and services to other organizations. In a notice surfaced by the Maine Attorney General, the company said it identified unusual activity in a limited part of its network on or about July 2, 2023. It said files were likely copied without authorization between May 19 and May 28, 2023. Bradford-Scott reviewed the files and connected them to data it processed for customer organizations; notice to affected people was sent on a rolling basis. The settlement website describes the incident as involving limited portions of Bradford-Scott’s network. It says affected files may have included Social Security numbers, dates of birth, financial account information, credit card numbers, or debit card numbers. The Maine notice describes potentially involved information as names and Social Security numbers. The information at issue may therefore differ by customer and affected individual; the sources do not establish that every listed data type was exposed for every person.
The settlement website states: “BSD denies that it did anything wrong, and the Court has not decided who is right.” The case concerns allegations resolved through a proposed settlement, not a judicial finding that Bradford-Scott caused legally proven harm. How many people were affected?
The Maine Attorney General filing for Bradford-Scott on behalf of Wellness Federal Credit Union reports 41,968 affected persons, including 55 Maine residents. Those figures apply to that filing and do not establish the total number affected across Bradford-Scott’s other customers. Is there a Bradford-Scott settlement?
Yes. The official settlement site describes a proposed settlement in Webster, et al. v. Bradford-Scott Data, LLC, No. 1:24-CV-00117-HAB-ALT, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana. The site lists a proposed settlement fund of $2,393,888.25 and a final approval hearing scheduled for October 15, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time. Who may be eligible?
The court-defined class, as reproduced in the settlement FAQ, is: “All persons who were affected by the Data Incident, including those who were sent a notice letter by Defendant concerning the Data Incident discovered on or around July 2, 2023.” The definition is subject to exclusions described in the settlement documents. If you are unsure whether you are included, contact the settlement administrator using the details on the official site. A name-only search should not be treated as definitive proof of eligibility.

How do you file a claim?
- Confirm eligibility and choose the benefit you are claiming. Read the class definition and instructions on the official claim page.
- Submit by October 7, 2026. The settlement site says online claims must be submitted by that date. A mailed, signed claim form must be postmarked by October 7, 2026.
- Include supporting documents for loss reimbursement. Provide the third-party documentation required for documented expenses. The expected pro rata payment does not require proof or an explanation.
- Keep a copy of your submission and check the official site. Deadlines, hearing details, and settlement status can change; use the settlement administrator’s current instructions.
Should you claim, opt out, object, or do nothing?
These options have different effects. Review the settlement documents and consider legal advice if you need guidance about your individual rights.
