The Bose SoundLink Flex Portable Speaker (2nd Gen)—often called the Flex 2—is a compact, mono Bluetooth speaker with IP67 dust- and water-resistance, a built-in microphone, USB-C charging and Bose app support. Bose rates battery life at up to 12 hours, but that estimate assumes moderate volume; its manual says runtime can fall to up to three hours at maximum volume. The specifications make it a potentially convenient portable speaker, but they do not establish how it sounds in independent listening tests. This review separates Bose’s claims from what buyers should verify before choosing it.
What is the Bose SoundLink Flex 2?
Bose’s official name is the SoundLink Flex Portable Speaker (2nd Gen). The “2nd Gen” label matters: this is not the original SoundLink Flex. The manufacturer’s materials establish the current model’s features, but do not provide a reliable, like-for-like comparison with the first generation. Avoid assuming specific upgrades over Gen 1 based on the name alone.
It is a single-speaker, mono Bluetooth model designed for portable use. Bose lists Bluetooth 5.3, one USB Type-C charging input, a built-in microphone on non-SE variants, and Bose app compatibility. Bose’s product page also lists adjustable EQ. Its silicone-wrapped body has a utility loop for carrying or hanging the speaker.
Sound quality: what is established and what is not
Bose markets the speaker as delivering “surprisingly deep bass,” but that is manufacturer language, not an independent listening result. No attributable independent sound evaluation is established here, so there is no sound-quality verdict to report as tested fact. A buyer should listen to it with familiar music at low, moderate and high volume before deciding whether its sound suits their use.

The Flex 2 is mono on its own, according to Bose UK. That distinction matters if you expect separate left- and right-channel playback from one speaker: the product specifications do not describe it as a stereo speaker. Bose does offer a way to link compatible speakers, detailed below.
Battery life and charging
Bose rates battery life at up to 12 hours, but that is a manufacturer estimate under specified conditions, not a guaranteed everyday runtime. In its manual, Bose reports up to 12 hours at 50% volume using Bluetooth A2DP, default EQ, a stated playlist and a 20–25°C environment. Bose also reports up to three hours at 100% volume using Bluetooth A2DP and its stated test setup. Audio content, loudness and temperature can affect results. No independent runtime measurement is established here.

Bose specifies up to four hours to charge from 0% to 100% when the speaker is in standby and connected to a 5V/1.5A (7.5W) USB-A-capable power supply. The box includes a USB-C-to-USB-A cable, but Bose does not list a power adapter among the included items. Check that your adapter has a compatible USB-A port and output before relying on it to charge the speaker.
Is the SoundLink Flex 2 waterproof?
Bose lists an IP67 rating and says the speaker floats. The rating indicates dust protection and resistance to water exposure under defined test conditions; it should not be read as a guarantee against damage in every situation. Bose also describes the silicone-wrapped body as drop-, shock- and rust-resistant. Those are manufacturer claims, not a promise that the speaker is indestructible. Follow Bose’s care and safety guidance, especially after exposure to water or dirt.

Can you pair two SoundLink Flex 2 speakers?
Bose documents linking compatible speakers in two modes. Stereo Mode assigns left and right channels to separate speakers; Party Mode plays audio in unison. Bose’s product page describes the feature as pairing compatible speakers “in Stereo Mode for left and right channels or Party Mode for bigger, bolder sound.” That wording is Bose’s product copy, not an independent assessment of the result.
The manual describes a programmable shortcut that can be assigned to link speakers, a voice assistant or Spotify Tap. Check Bose’s compatibility guidance for the specific speakers you plan to connect; the available information does not establish compatibility across every Bose model or generation.

Portability, controls and connectivity
The official support specifications give dimensions of 7.93 × 3.56 × 2.06 inches and a weight of about 1.29 pounds. The nylon utility loop offers a way to carry or hang it, while the compact listed dimensions may suit a bag or outdoor setup. Whether it is easy to carry depends on your own setup and how you plan to use the loop.
Bose lists Bluetooth 5.3 and, on its UK materials, a connection range within 9 metres. Wireless range varies with the surroundings and connected devices, so treat that as Bose’s stated figure rather than a guaranteed distance in all settings. The speaker also has a built-in microphone on non-SE variants. Bose’s materials establish the microphone’s presence, but not call quality in real-world conditions.

Is the Bose SoundLink Flex 2 worth it?
That depends on the current price where you live and how much you value its combination of a compact body, IP67 rating, app support, microphone and compatible-speaker linking. Its manufacturer-stated battery estimate is most useful at moderate volume; the manual’s shorter maximum-volume figure is important if you tend to listen loudly. The available product information does not establish independently tested sound quality, real-world runtime or a specific advantage over the original Flex, so those points should not be treated as proven reasons to buy.
Price is regional and changes over time. Bose’s UK product page showed £149.95 at the time of its dated price snapshot, alongside a temporary offer ending October 7, 2026; that is not a current global price recommendation. Check Bose or local retailers for the price and any offer available in your region before deciding.
For a fair comparison with another portable speaker, compare current local price, dimensions and weight, mono or stereo playback, battery figures and their test conditions, dust- and water-resistance, Bluetooth and multipoint support, app and EQ features, charging port and included adapter, and speaker-linking compatibility. The available Bose specifications alone do not establish a competitive verdict against other models.
