If that click and feel are enjoyable at first but become distracting during a long typing session, a non-clicky tactile switch may preserve the bump without the intentional click. That is a sound-and-feel trade-off, not a proven fix for fatigue: the available sources do not establish that Blue switches cause eight-hour discomfort or that another switch prevents it.
What makes Blue switches feel different?
Cherry MX Blue is both clicky and tactile: you feel a distinct feedback point and hear a click as the switch actuates. The click is the defining difference from a non-clicky tactile switch such as Cherry MX Brown. HP describes Blue as louder and requiring more force than Cherry MX Brown or Red; Corsair lists Blue at 60 g actuation force and Brown at 55 g. Those specifications describe switches, not a personal comfort threshold.
Are Blue switches too loud for long typing?
They may be too loud for your environment or preference, but there is no single sound level established here for every Blue-switch keyboard. The sound you hear comes from the complete keyboard, and the available sources do not provide a standardized sound measurement or show that changing only the switches will make every board quiet. Consider whether the intentional click is the part you want to change, and listen to the specific keyboard in a setting like the one where you use it.
What switch keeps the tactile bump but is quieter?
A non-clicky tactile switch is the closest match if you want feedback without the deliberate click. Cherry MX Brown is one example. Corsair’s guide gives these specifications:

| Switch | Intentional click | Feel | Actuation travel | Actuation force |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cherry MX Blue | Yes | Tactile | 2.2 mm | 60 g |
| Cherry MX Brown | No intentional click | Tactile | 2.0 mm | 55 g |
These figures are listed in Corsair’s switch guide; the article does not specify a publication year. They are switch properties, not evidence that Brown will feel less tiring for you. A linear switch is another option if you are willing to give up the tactile bump. Logitech’s MX Mechanical product page lists tactile quiet, clicky, and linear variants; check the live listing for the exact switch and layout.
Will switching from Blue to Brown make typing less tiring?
That cannot be promised. The cited materials describe switch feel, sound and actuation specifications, but do not establish that Blue switches cause fatigue after eight hours or that Brown—or any other switch—prevents it. If the issue is specifically the click, trying a non-clicky tactile keyboard can test whether that sound is the part you dislike. If the discomfort is physical, a switch change alone should not be treated as a guaranteed remedy.

Can you replace your keyboard’s Blue switches?
Not without checking the exact keyboard. A Cherry MX Brown replacement is suitable only if your board accepts compatible replacement switches; compatibility cannot be inferred from the switch name alone. Consult the keyboard’s specifications for its switch mounting and replacement support before buying parts. If you share the keyboard model, its compatibility can be checked more precisely.

How to choose a quieter tactile setup
- Decide what you want to keep. Choose non-clicky tactile if you want a bump without the intentional click; choose linear only if you are comfortable losing that bump.
- Compare the exact switch specifications. Use actuation force and travel as descriptions, not as predictions of personal comfort.
- Evaluate the complete keyboard. Sound depends on the keyboard as a whole, so check the exact model and switch variant rather than assuming the switch name guarantees a particular noise level.
- Verify replacement compatibility. Confirm that the board accepts the replacement switch and that it matches the keyboard’s mounting and layout requirements.
