Blue Origin’s TeraWave is a proposed satellite network for enterprise, data-center, and government connectivity—not a documented consumer broadband service. The company says its planned 5,408-satellite system will combine low- and medium-Earth orbits, with stated link-capacity figures of up to 144 Gbps for its LEO segment and up to 6 Tbps for its MEO segment. Those are operator-announced capabilities, not measured customer speeds.

What TeraWave is intended to do

Blue Origin announced TeraWave on January 21, 2026, as a network for tens of thousands of enterprise, data-center, and government users. The company positions it as an additional connectivity option for critical operations, particularly where diverse fiber routes are expensive, difficult to build, or slow to deploy. It describes point-to-point connectivity and enterprise internet access, designed to complement fiber backhaul rather than simply replace it. Blue Origin’s announcement outlines that intended role.

The announcement is a plan, not evidence that customers can order service today. The reviewed public sources do not establish launch regions, customer contracts, live performance, or a commercial availability date.

What the 6 Tbps and 144 Gbps figures mean

Blue Origin associates the two headline numbers with different parts of the constellation. They describe maximum link-capability claims for satellite segments, not a speed guarantee for an individual customer or a result from an independent test.

Announced figure Segment and link type What it does not establish
Up to 144 Gbps Q/V-band links from the 5,280-satellite LEO segment, according to Blue Origin’s January 2026 announcement. A per-site throughput, a typical-user speed, or a measured service rate.
Up to 6 Tbps Optical links associated with the 128-satellite MEO segment, according to Blue Origin’s January 2026 announcement. That one customer can receive 6 Tbps, or that customer-facing rates have been demonstrated.

Blue Origin describes the design as “5,408 optically interconnected satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO) and medium Earth orbit (MEO).” That is the company’s description of its planned architecture; the quoted capacity figures should likewise be read as announced capabilities, not verified service performance. The company’s announcement gives the figures and their segment associations.

How the proposed constellation is structured

The filing describes a proposed non-geostationary fixed-satellite service using Q/V-, E-, S-, and Ka-bands. Its design includes 5,280 LEO satellites distributed among orbital shells at 520, 530, and 540 km, plus 128 MEO satellites across shells ranging from 8,000 to 24,200 km. These are proposed design details in a regulatory application, not confirmation that the satellites have been built or deployed. The technical annex is available through the FCC filing record.

JOULPOUZA Dashboard Mount for Starlink Mini, Dual Suction Cup, Black
  • SURFACE CHECK BEFORE ORDERING — Designed for clean, flat, smooth glass or hard plastic. Suction cups may not seal correctly on textured dashboards, fabric, leather, curved panels or porous surfaces. Check your mounting area before ordering.
  • TAB-LOCK X-FRAME FOR STARLINK MINI — Two lower tabs fit into the rear slots of Starlink Mini while the surrounding arms provide additional containment. This mechanical frame holds the device without loose trays or straps. Compatible with Starlink Mini only; device not included.
  • DUAL LEVER-LOCK VACUUM CUPS — Clean and dry the mounting surface, press both cups firmly, then push each cam lever down until fully locked. Check both seals before every drive. Lift the lever and clear pull tab to release without adhesive residue.
  • INDEPENDENT FORWARD/BACK TILT — Loosen each hand knob to adjust the forward or backward angle, then tighten both knobs firmly before driving. The two sides adjust independently. This mount does not provide left/right swivel.
  • TWO CORRECT MOUNTING MODES — Use nearly horizontal on a sufficiently flat, smooth dashboard or upright at the lower corner of the front or rear windshield. Do not install on the upper windshield or sunroof. Includes one X-frame, two suction cup modules and one manual.

The planned ground segment includes operations centers, gateway earth stations, customer user terminals, and optical ground terminals. The filing describes gateways with large transmit-and-receive parabolic antennas and customer-site terminals using transmit-and-receive phased arrays; it anticipates multi-gigabit rates at those user terminals. It does not identify a retail terminal model or establish that existing satellite-internet dishes will be compatible. The application materials describe the proposed system components.

Is TeraWave approved or available yet?

The FCC record identifies application SAT-LOA-20260120-00033 and requested frequency bands. An application requests regulatory authority; it is not itself an approval. Blue Origin says it plans to begin constellation deployment in Q4 2027. That is the company’s stated deployment schedule, not a customer-service launch date. The available sources do not establish that the system has been licensed, deployed, or opened to customers. See the FCC record and Blue Origin’s announcement.

How TeraWave compares with fiber and other satellite services

The announced concept addresses a recognizable enterprise need: an additional route when fiber diversity is hard to obtain. But the published material does not support ranking TeraWave against fiber, Starlink, or another satellite provider on real-world speed, latency, uptime, coverage, or value. A fair comparison would require customer-level throughput and upload rates, service regions, latency and availability commitments, route-diversity details, installation requirements, equipment costs, and contract pricing. Those figures are not established in the reviewed sources.

For now, the defensible distinction is one of intended market and design: Blue Origin is describing a multi-orbit system aimed at enterprise, data-center, and government networks, with satellite connectivity meant to supplement existing infrastructure. Its announced capacity numbers should not be treated as evidence of a specific customer’s experience.

What prospective customers still need to know

Blue Origin and the cited filing materials do not state pricing, initial service regions, customer-level service guarantees, or equipment costs. The filing describes terminal categories but does not give a purchasable model or compatibility list. Organizations evaluating the plan would need those details—and confirmation of regulatory status—before assessing it as a deployable service. The company’s announcement and the FCC application are the relevant public records for the announced plan and proposed design.
