The reported “2%” was an early snapshot of Bitcoin nodes running software that supported BIP-110—not a live measure of Bitcoin-wide consensus, and not a BTC-to-PKR exchange rate. TechJuice counted 583 of 24,481 active nodes, or about 2.38%, in an article whose text gives no precise publication date. Later miner-signaling figures and the August 2026 chain split describe different events and measurements.
What does the 2% BIP-110 figure measure?
TechJuice reported that 583 of 24,481 active nodes were running BIP-110-supporting software, approximately 2.38%. This is a dated article snapshot, not a current node count. A software count also cannot prove which consensus rules those nodes enforce or establish what the Bitcoin network as a whole accepts.
The other widely cited percentage measures miner signaling, not nodes. The Block reported that 51 of 2,016 blocks signaled support—2.53%—during the final signaling period before the August 2026 split. It reported a 55% threshold for lock-in without a split. The two percentages have different denominators and meanings, so they should not be read as a single trend line.
What BIP-110 proposes
BIP-110, titled “Reduced Data Temporary Softfork,” proposes a temporary consensus soft fork intended to restrict certain forms of transaction data. Its specification describes a one-year deployment and includes these proposed limits:

These are provisions in the proposal, not rules adopted by Bitcoin as a whole. The specification’s named author, Dathon Ohm, argues that arbitrary data can create persistent storage and service costs for node operators, while transaction fees go to the miner including the transaction. The BIP itself also recognizes a limit to a consensus-rule approach: “It is impossible to solve spam completely, and typically spam is best fought with policy/filters, not consensus.”
Why supporters and critics disagree
The dispute is not only about how much data a transaction may carry. It is also about whether Bitcoin’s consensus rules should distinguish transactions according to their use and who should bear the costs of storing data.

What happened during the 2026 split?
Signaling fell well short of the reported threshold
The Block reported that 51 of 2,016 blocks, or 2.53%, signaled BIP-110 support in the final period before the split, against a reported 55% threshold for lock-in without a split. Block signaling is a measure of miner signaling; it does not tell how many nodes ran supporting software.
A rejected block created a minority branch
On August 8, 2026, BIP-110 nodes rejected a non-signaling block at height 961,632, producing a minority branch. At the time of The Block’s report, the main chain had advanced to height 961,640 and the minority branch to 961,633.

CoinDesk reported an early post-split gap: the minority branch produced only two blocks in roughly eight hours while the main chain added 48. It attributed the slower production to the branch’s small share of hashpower and inherited mining difficulty. CoinDesk also warned that transactions initially accepted by both branches could create replay-style risk for people attempting to sell fork coins.
The observer project’s later status report
The BIP-110 Observer project reports that on August 30, 2026, at block 961,640, the minority branch changed its proof of work to BLAKE2b, making it a different coin. The project says its own measurements end at that change because its node cannot validate the changed proof of work; its report does not establish ongoing measurements beyond that point.

Does “BTC to PKR” give a live Bitcoin exchange rate?
No live BTC/PKR quote is established here. The “BTC to PKR” wording in the title does not provide a timestamped exchange rate, so it should not be used to infer the current value of Bitcoin in Pakistani rupees.

The node count, signaling percentage and branch observations are specific reports, not a population-wide study of arbitrary-data costs or a definitive measure of network consensus. The BIP-110 Observer project cautions that sampled peer-to-peer node counts can be biased and cannot establish which rules nodes enforce. These figures help describe participation and the split, but do not resolve the policy debate.
