Whether energy relief can affect Fed policy depends on whether lower energy costs actually persist and ease broader inflation pressure. The latest cited U.S. inflation data, for August, showed energy prices still rising sharply over the year; September CPI was not scheduled for release until October 14.
Why October 7 to October 27 is a 20-day window
The Federal Reserve’s calendar scheduled the minutes of its September 15–16 Federal Open Market Committee meeting for release on October 7, and the next FOMC meeting for October 27–28. October 7 to October 27 is 20 calendar days. Those dates create a period in which investors can assess the minutes and any new economic evidence ahead of the next meeting; they do not mean the Fed is due to make a policy decision on October 7. The Fed’s FOMC calendar lists the scheduled dates.
What the latest inflation data say about energy
The latest cited CPI report available for October 7 was the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ August 2026 release, published September 11. U.S. CPI-U rose 3.4% over the 12 months ending in August, while the energy index rose 16.3% over the year. CPI excluding food and energy rose 2.4% over the same 12-month period. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, all-items CPI increased 0.4% in August. These are August figures, not September readings. The BLS had scheduled the September CPI release for October 14, after the minutes date and before the next FOMC meeting. The August 2026 CPI report does not establish that energy relief was already underway by October 7.
How energy prices could affect the Fed’s outlook
Lower energy costs could matter if they last long enough to ease inflation and limit spillover into other prices and wages. The Bank for International Settlements explains that energy shocks affect inflation directly and through second-round effects; it says the appropriate policy response depends on how persistent inflation pressure is and how much growth is affected. An energy-price drop by itself therefore does not imply a rate cut.

In a September 29, 2026 speech, Federal Reserve Bank of New York President John C. Williams said he expected somewhat larger and longer-lasting effects from energy prices on inflation. He also said monetary policy cannot move ships or reopen pipelines and refineries, but can reduce the risk that supply shocks spill over into broader, more persistent inflation. Williams stated that his views were his own and did not necessarily reflect those of the FOMC or others in the Federal Reserve System. His comments should not be treated as a committee forecast. Williams’s September 29 speech also described the federal funds target range as 3.75%–4.00% following the FOMC’s September increase.
The policy question is whether sustained energy relief changes the Fed’s view of persistent inflation relative to employment and growth—not simply whether fuel or other energy prices decline briefly. The September CPI report, scheduled for October 14, was due to provide a newer inflation snapshot before the October 27–28 meeting.

What that could mean for Bitcoin—and what it cannot tell us
There is evidence for a broad connection between U.S. monetary policy and crypto-market conditions: a BIS working paper reports that contractionary U.S. policy shocks affect crypto markets and that crypto prices fall as policy tightens. But that finding does not establish how Bitcoin will respond during these 20 days, or show a direct causal path from energy prices to BTC. A Federal Reserve Board notice published in the October 2, 2026 Federal Register records a comment describing Bitcoin’s relationship with macroeconomic variables as unstable.
For Bitcoin, the chain of reasoning is conditional: energy relief would need to alter the Fed’s assessment of inflation or growth, that assessment would need to affect policy expectations or financial conditions, and those shifts would need to matter more to BTC than other market drivers. The cited sources provide no event-specific Bitcoin return measure, price target, or directional forecast for this window.

What to watch before the October meeting
Use the window to assess evidence, rather than treating it as a countdown to a particular outcome:
- Check whether energy prices actually ease and for how long. A short-lived dip is different from persistent relief. The August CPI report does not establish a decline by October 7.
- Look for evidence of broader inflation effects. The September CPI release was scheduled for October 14. Headline inflation and inflation excluding food and energy offer different views; neither, on its own, settles the Fed’s outlook.
- Read the minutes as a record of the September meeting, not a new decision. They were scheduled for October 7 and can provide context for the committee’s earlier discussion, while later data may change the outlook.
- Compare inflation with growth and employment considerations. BIS analysis says persistence and growth effects both matter to the policy response.
- Treat Bitcoin’s price action as market evidence, not proof of a single cause. A BTC move during the period would not by itself demonstrate that energy prices or Fed expectations caused it.
Bottom line on the 20-day Bitcoin window
October 7 to October 27 is a useful interval to watch for evidence that could shape expectations before the next FOMC meeting. Energy relief could influence the Fed only if it proves persistent and changes the inflation-growth assessment. The available sources do not show that relief had begun by October 7, and they cannot predict Bitcoin’s direction over the period.
