A man identified in reports as Sridhar Panda was injured during a police operation in Chandaka, Bhubaneswar, on Saturday, October 3, 2026, and taken to Capital Hospital, according to contemporaneous news reports. The encounter accounts differ: Hindustan Times reported police said he fired at officers, while a PTI report carried by OrissaPOST said he tried to attack them with a sharp object. The underlying sexual-assault allegation remains an allegation, not a court finding.

What was reported about the alleged assault

A 26-year-old woman told police that a masked intruder entered her rented accommodation in the Nayapalli area of Bhubaneswar on Wednesday night, September 30, 2026, and sexually assaulted her after threatening her with what she believed was a gun. She filed a complaint at Nayapalli police station on Thursday, October 1, according to Hindustan Times and OdishaBytes.

Reports published on October 3 identified Sridhar Panda as the suspect and said he was located in Chandaka, injured during an encounter and taken to Capital Hospital. These are reports about an accused person; they do not establish guilt.
