In Baldur’s Gate 3, “console” can mean a PlayStation or Xbox device—or a text interface for entering commands. Those are different things. On PS5 and Xbox, the official route for cheat-like changes is Larian’s curated in-game mod library. On PC, players can use that same official library and have access to a broader third-party mod ecosystem; some third-party tools can provide command-like features. Larian’s official materials reviewed here document no built-in command console for entering cheats.
What “console cheats” and “PC console commands” mean in BG3
“Console cheats” might mean cheats on a console device, mods that change gameplay, or typed instructions entered into a command prompt. Those are not interchangeable. The official PlayStation and Xbox option is to browse and install eligible mods in the game’s Mod Manager. On PC, a third-party utility such as Norbyte’s Script Extender may provide a command-like interface, but that is a community modding route—not a documented built-in Baldur’s Gate 3 feature.
Larian’s official support and modding pages describe the Mod Manager and Toolkit, but do not document a native command prompt for typing cheats on PC or console. Do not assume a command shown in a community tutorial is an official game command or will work with your installed version.

Larian introduced the in-game Mod Manager with Patch 7 and made the Toolkit available to PC players. The console library is narrower by design: Larian says mods must be made and uploaded with its Toolkit and pass internal testing to be eligible for the console and Mac in-game library. As a result, a PC mod—or a tool that depends on external software—may not have a console equivalent. See Larian’s official mod support guidance and its modding support update.

What console players can do instead
On PS5 or Xbox, open the game’s in-game Mod Manager and browse the available mods. Install a mod that is listed for your platform, then follow its description and any setup or save requirements. The library’s contents are not a promise that every PC mod or command tool is available on console; eligibility and Larian’s review process determine what appears.
Larian introduced a limit of 100 mods on console platforms in Hotfix 29, saying the cap was intended to maximize stability. It is a platform rule, not a general limit to apply to PC. Larian also warned that removing mods from an existing save can cause instability, so treat a modded playthrough as dependent on its installed mod set. Details are in Hotfix 29’s console-only notes.

Using third-party command tools on PC
Community guides describe exposing a PC command interface through Norbyte’s Script Extender. That route requires a third-party tool and its own setup; it is not the same as opening a built-in BG3 developer console. The official sources cited here do not establish the current Script Extender release’s compatibility with every game patch, nor do they verify that particular commands work in the current version.
- Check the tool’s own release notes for support for your installed game version before installing or following an older guide.
- Confirm whether the instructions apply to your platform, game version, and other installed mods.
- Back up important saves before changing a mod setup. Removing mods from an existing save can cause instability.
Do not treat PC command instructions as transferable to PS5 or Xbox: console players cannot install the PC Toolkit, and the official console path is the curated in-game mod library.

Check game and mod versions before playing
BG3 updates can affect mod compatibility. The latest official update located for this article was Hotfix 36, dated March 26, 2026, version 4.1.1.7209685, which Larian said was rolling out across platforms. Patch 8 was described as the final major update, but smaller hotfixes continued. Check the Larian news page and the installed game version before relying on version-specific instructions; a guide written for an earlier patch may no longer apply. For multiplayer, Larian says players loading a modded save or playing together with mods enabled need the same mod versions. Check that everyone’s mod set and versions match rather than assuming that having mods with the same names is enough; see Larian’s guidance on playing with mods.
