Siemens Calibre Insight Analyzer helps circuit teams look for selected reliability risks before layout by analyzing a pre-layout netlist—without requiring full circuit simulation for those checks. Its focus includes leakage, floating or high-impedance nodes, contention, and certain over-voltage or connectivity issues. Siemens positions it as an addition to simulation, electrical rule checking (ERC), and other verification—not a replacement for them.
What Insight Analyzer checks before layout
Insight Analyzer analyzes a pre-layout netlist rather than physical layout geometry. Siemens describes its approach as dynamic, topological, and state-based: it examines circuit connectivity and operating states, and can automatically recognize structures such as logic gates, latches, current mirrors, and level shifters. Siemens says it can analyze analog, digital, and mixed-signal designs at multiple hierarchy levels. These are product descriptions from Siemens, not an independent assessment of coverage or accuracy. Siemens Calibre Insight Analyzer product page and FAQ
The product page groups leakage checks into three categories:
- Parasitic leakage: potential leakage paths, including those involving different power domains.
- Analog gate leakage: leakage concerns in analog circuitry.
- Digital gate leakage: leakage concerns in digital circuitry.
Siemens also lists contention and over-voltage or connectivity issues among commonly used checks. The aim is to flag design-specific areas that merit review while changes are still being made at the schematic or circuit level.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
How this differs from full simulation and ERC
Siemens’ technical-paper page frames the tool as “early design analysis without full simulation.” That describes the kind of targeted analysis Insight Analyzer is intended to provide; it does not establish that simulation can be skipped for overall verification. Simulation evaluates circuit behavior under chosen models and stimuli, while ERC checks electrical design rules. Insight Analyzer adds a structural, state-aware view aimed particularly at leakage and high-impedance risks. Siemens presents the methods as complementary. Siemens technical-paper page
Because Insight Analyzer operates on a netlist and does not inspect geometry, it cannot replace checks whose purpose is to evaluate physical layout. Nor does the supplied product description establish that it covers every reliability failure mode. Teams should use it as one stage in a verification flow, alongside methods appropriate to the design and its later implementation.

Insight Analyzer and Calibre PERC have different roles
Siemens describes the tools as serving different points and targets in the verification flow. Its product FAQ says, “Insight Analyzer is used earlier in the design process than PERC.” It characterizes Insight Analyzer as taking a holistic circuit view and PERC as using a device-focused approach, and recommends Insight Analyzer for leakage and high-impedance checks while recommending PERC for ESD checks. This is Siemens’ guidance, not a benchmark showing comparative speed, accuracy, or defect detection. Siemens product FAQ
| Comparison | Insight Analyzer | Calibre PERC |
|---|---|---|
| Timing in the flow | Used earlier, on a pre-layout netlist, according to Siemens. | Used later than Insight Analyzer, as Siemens describes the flow. |
| Analysis emphasis | Holistic circuit and state-aware analysis, according to Siemens. | Device-focused analysis, according to Siemens. |
| Highlighted use case | Leakage and high-impedance checks, per Siemens’ recommendation. | ESD checks, per Siemens’ recommendation. |
What a typical workflow looks like
Siemens describes use through a graphical interface, Tcl batch mode, or a combination. A CAD or verification team can integrate the tool into the company’s flow; circuit designers then run checks and investigate findings, including by cross-probing to a Virtuoso schematic. The exact setup depends on the team’s environment. Siemens User2User North America Usability Lab

- Set up the project and netlist. Configure the design context and checks for the pre-layout circuit.
- Run selected checks. Use the GUI, Tcl batch mode, or both, depending on whether the work is interactive or integrated into a repeatable flow.
- Review findings in context. Explore results and, where configured, cross-probe to the Virtuoso schematic to locate the relevant circuitry.
- Investigate and revise. Designers assess whether a finding represents a real concern, then make appropriate schematic changes and rerun checks as needed.

The intended users are circuit designers working before layout, including analog, digital, and mixed-signal teams. CAD and verification staff may be involved in integrating the checks into an established flow. The practical value is greatest when a team wants to identify selected connectivity, leakage, or high-impedance concerns while the circuit is still being designed—not when it needs a geometry-based signoff check.

In a January 22, 2025 blog post, Siemens recounted an STMicroelectronics team’s investigation of high-impedance nets and said the team increased verification coverage. Siemens’ account also reported that users became operational within a few hours. The post does not quantify the coverage increase, and these are vendor-published case claims rather than independently validated results. Siemens account of the STMicroelectronics use case

What Insight Analyzer does not establish
- It does not inspect layout geometry, so it is not a substitute for physical-design reliability checks.
- Its pre-layout analysis does not remove the need for simulation, ERC, or other verification methods needed by a project.
- Siemens’ published product descriptions and customer account do not provide an independent accuracy benchmark, quantified time savings, or proof of reduced defects.
