Xiao is an on-field Anemo plunge carry, so his damage and survivability depend on Burst uptime, team support, and a healer—not on one universal stat threshold.
What stats should Xiao use?
Icy Veins’ version 7.0 guide gives the following targets for a Xiao with a good weapon and decent artifact rolls. Treat them as guide benchmarks, not required thresholds: your weapon, team, artifact set, support buffs, and roll quality can shift the balance.

Artifact main stats
- Sands: ATK%.
- Goblet: Anemo DMG Bonus. An ATK% goblet may be worth using if its substats are exceptional, but Icy Veins says Anemo DMG goblets tend to perform better.
- Circlet: CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG, choosing the one that helps balance your overall CRIT stats.
Substat priorities
Energy Recharge is a requirement to meet, not a damage stat to stack without limit. Icy Veins puts it first in its substat ordering because Burst availability matters; Genshin-Build places it after CRIT and ATK%. The practical approach is conditional: get enough Energy Recharge for your team’s rotation, then favor CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, and ATK%.

How much Energy Recharge does Xiao need?
Xiao’s Elemental Burst costs 70 Energy according to Genshin-Build’s version 7.0 data. Icy Veins suggests 120–140% Energy Recharge, with the amount depending on the team and whether Xiao has an Anemo battery. A team that helps generate Energy can reduce the pressure to seek additional Recharge on artifacts; a team that does not may need more. Genshin-Build’s Xiao build page
Use Burst uptime as the test: if Xiao regularly reaches the next rotation without enough Energy to Burst, improve his Energy supply or Recharge before chasing more offensive substats. An Anemo teammate can help battery him, but the exact requirement varies with the team and play pattern.
Which artifact set is best for Xiao?
There is no single uncontested ranking across the current guides. Icy Veins calls Long Night’s Oath its current best set, while Genshin-Build ranks Desert Pavilion Chronicle first using kit-data arithmetic rather than a playtested damage ranking. Icy Veins also describes Vermillion Hereafter as competitive. Compare the actual pieces you own instead of assuming a small theoretical advantage justifies a full refarm.

For a set decision, compare substat quality, whether you already have a strong set, team buffs and HP manipulation, and how the source produced its ranking. A modest theoretical upgrade may not be worth the resin and time spent replacing excellent artifacts.

Which polearm should Xiao use?
Weapon rankings also vary by guide and methodology, so choose around your account rather than treating one list as universal. Icy Veins’ version 7.0 build lists Primordial Jade Winged-Spear first, calls Staff of Homa a strong option, and includes Calamity Queller, Deathmatch, and Lithic Spear among alternatives. Lithic Spear’s value depends on how many Liyue characters are in the party.

- Start with a strong polearm you already own; do not judge it by a ranking detached from its refinement and your artifacts.
- Check whether its CRIT stats help balance Xiao’s CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG, and whether its ATK and passive suit the way you play.
- Account for party restrictions or conditions, such as Lithic Spear’s relationship to Liyue characters.
- Consider whether a ranking reflects tested rotations or kit-data arithmetic before using it to justify a change.
How to use Xiao’s Burst in a rotation
Xiao is an on-field Anemo plunge carry. His Burst lets him jump higher, boosts his plunges, converts his attacks to Anemo damage, and drains his HP. This makes reliable Burst access and healing central to a comfortable rotation.
- Use both available charges of Xiao’s Elemental Skill before activating his Burst. Icy Veins notes that the Skill does not generate Energy for Xiao while he is under Burst.
- Activate his Burst once the team’s setup is ready.
- Chain plunge attacks during the Burst. Occasional normal or charged attacks can vary the sequence; the specific pattern depends on whether you are fighting a single target or a group.
- Use the team’s healing to manage the HP drain and prepare Energy for the next Burst cycle.
How should the team affect the build?
Team composition changes both Xiao’s comfort and his stat needs. An Anemo battery can reduce the Energy Recharge burden. A healer helps offset the HP drain built into his Burst, and supports can improve his damage or plunge-focused play. Genshin-Build gives Xiao, Durin, Xianyun, and Faruzan as one example: Xianyun provides plunge support and healing, while Faruzan supports Anemo damage. That is an example team, not a roster requirement.
When comparing builds, judge them in the team and rotation you actually use. A set or weapon that looks strongest in isolation may be less useful if its passive, Energy supply, or team conditions do not fit your setup.
How to decide whether to improve Xiao’s build
- Burst is not ready in time: address Energy Recharge or team Energy generation first.
- Burst is reliable, but CRIT is uneven: adjust the circlet or artifact substats to balance CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG.
- Your existing set has strong rolls: compare its real stats with prospective replacements before committing to a long farm.
- A weapon ranking recommends a swap: check your owned weapon, refinement, passive conditions, party makeup, and the ranking’s methodology.
- Xiao’s HP becomes difficult to manage: account for healing in the team, since his Burst drains HP.
