Notebookcheck’s 2026 ranking snapshot puts the Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 8 first, followed by the Dell Pro Max 18 Plus MB18250 and Dell Pro Max 16 Plus. That order is a useful starting point—not a universal verdict: the best choice depends on your software, graphics needs, memory ceiling, display preferences, and how often you carry the laptop. Notebookcheck says its list covers thoroughly tested notebooks from the preceding 12 months that it considers available; its page was published in November 2025, labels the article a Q1 2026 update, titles the list Q2 2026, and shows a May 21, 2026 footer update. See Notebookcheck’s ranking and linked model reviews.

Notebookcheck’s best workstation laptops ranking

The table below preserves the positions and scores shown on Notebookcheck’s page. One visible inconsistency matters: the Lenovo ThinkPad T16g Gen 3 is ranked sixth at 87.5%, a higher displayed score than the 87.4% scores at positions four and five. Notebookcheck says newer reviews rank higher when scores tie, but does not provide the overall score’s exact weighting formula on this page. Treat the percentages as Notebookcheck’s reported ratings, not a precise measure of how a laptop will perform in your particular workload.

Which ranked workstation fits your workload?

Best balance of professional graphics and portability: ThinkPad P1 Gen 8

Notebookcheck’s top-ranked configuration pairs an Intel Core Ultra 7 255H with an NVIDIA RTX PRO 2000 Blackwell GPU, 32 GB of memory, a 1 TB SSD, and a matte 16-inch 3200 × 2000 display. It weighs 1.9 kg. Notebookcheck praises its chassis, performance, relatively thin and light design, and two Thunderbolt 5 ports. Its stated memory limit is 64 GB, so check that ceiling against projects you expect to keep open at once.

Best when performance and memory take priority over carrying weight: Dell Pro Max 18 Plus

The listed MB18250 configuration has a Core Ultra 9 285HX, RTX PRO 5000 Blackwell, 128 GB of memory, and an 18-inch matte 2560 × 1600 display. At 3.6 kg, it is substantially less convenient to carry than the P1. Notebookcheck highlights its very high performance and three fans, while noting that the display resolution tops out at 2560 × 1600 in the listed configuration.

More mobile Dell alternative: Dell Pro Max 16 Plus

This listed configuration combines a Core Ultra 9 285HX and RTX PRO 5000 Blackwell with 128 GB of memory and a glossy 16-inch 3840 × 2400 display; it weighs 2.8 kg. Notebookcheck says it gives up some of the 18-inch sibling’s performance for better mobility, and notes an available 4K OLED option. Confirm the panel type and resolution on the exact configuration you are considering.

Upgradeability and battery life: HP ZBook X G1i 16

The reviewed configuration is listed with a Core Ultra 7 265H, RTX PRO 2000 Blackwell, 64 GB of memory, a 2 TB SSD, and a matte 16-inch 2560 × 1600 display at 2.2 kg. Notebookcheck calls out good battery life and upgradeability. It also describes fewer premium options, including OLED, than some alternatives.

Compact AMD workstation: HP ZBook Ultra G1a 14

This 14-inch option uses AMD graphics integrated into the processor rather than an NVIDIA discrete GPU. Notebookcheck describes its Radeon 8060S as high performing and lists configurations with up to 128 GB of memory, but flags soldered RAM. Choose it when compactness and its integrated-graphics performance suit the job; do not assume it offers the same GPU capabilities or software support as an RTX PRO system.

GeForce graphics and upgradeability: ThinkPad T16g Gen 3 RTX 5080

The T16g’s GeForce RTX 5080 distinguishes it from models in the list equipped with professional RTX PRO graphics. Notebookcheck praises its upgradeability, input devices, and Thunderbolt 5, but reports that the supplied USB-C power limits performance in its test. The 87.5% score is displayed alongside position six, so note the ranking’s score-order mismatch when comparing it with positions four and five.

Lower-cost workstation approach: ThinkPad P16v Gen 3

Notebookcheck describes the P16v as a less expensive, less feature-rich workstation with good, but not exceptional, performance. It may suit buyers who need a workstation-class machine but do not need every premium feature of the top-ranked systems. Compare the specific GPU, memory, and display configuration before deciding whether the savings justify the trade-offs.

Compact entry-level option: HP ZBook 8 G1i 14

Notebookcheck says the discrete-graphics version performs slightly better in workstation tests than the version with Intel graphics only. It also notes that the laptop lacks an SD card reader. If your workflow depends on removable-media transfers or GPU acceleration, confirm the exact variant and plan for any required adapter.

Large-screen, maximum-performance option: Schenker Key 18 Pro M25 RTX 5090

This 18-inch model is listed with a GeForce RTX 5090. Notebookcheck highlights performance, keyboard quality, and upgradeability, while noting noise under load, reduced performance on battery, a 4.1 kg weight, and a lid that may creak. It is a less compelling choice if quiet operation or frequent travel matters more than top-end performance.

Dell Precision 3561 15.6-Inch Workstation Laptop (Renewed)
  • Dell Precision 3561 Laptop 15.6" Non-Touch Screen
  • Intel Core i7 11th Gen i7-11800H Eight-Core Processor 2.3GHz (4.6GHz With Turbo Boost)

  • 1920x1080 FHD resolution Non-Touch with an integrated Yes and an Nvidia T1200 Graphics Card
  • Wireless Wifi & Bluetooth. Windows11 Pro

Lightest listed model: ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 AMD

At 1.4 kg, the P14s Gen 6 AMD is the lightest laptop in the ranking. Its Ryzen AI 9 HX PRO 370 and integrated Radeon 890M, along with its portability, connectivity, and upgradeability, make it a sensible direction for mobile work that does not demand a powerful discrete GPU. Notebookcheck says its integrated graphics cannot keep pace with dedicated graphics in the other systems.

How to choose a mobile workstation

Match the graphics to the application

RTX PRO graphics are aimed at professional workflows where stability, compatibility, and reliability with certified applications matter. GeForce graphics can be suitable for many demanding creative or compute tasks, while integrated graphics may be enough for lighter workloads. Verify the requirements and certification needs of the applications you use; not every CAD or content-creation task requires an RTX PRO card.

Check memory capacity and upgrade paths

Large CAD assemblies, virtual machines, data sets, and complex creative projects can make memory capacity a deciding factor. Compare the actual configuration with the maximum supported amount, and distinguish upgradeable memory from soldered memory. In this ranking, Notebookcheck specifically notes the P1 Gen 8’s 64 GB limit and soldered RAM on the ZBook Ultra G1a 14.

Balance display, size, and carry weight

A larger or higher-resolution screen can make detailed work easier, but often comes with a heavier system. The listed examples range from the 1.4 kg ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 AMD to the 4.1 kg Schenker Key 18 Pro M25. Compare the display resolution and panel type as well as weight: a matte screen can be preferable in bright environments, while the listed Dell Pro Max 16 configuration has a glossy panel.

Consider performance away from a desk

Notebookcheck flags reduced battery-mode performance on the Schenker Key 18 Pro M25 and a supplied USB-C power limitation in its T16g test. If you expect to render, compile, or run GPU-heavy work on battery, look for model-specific testing of unplugged performance and battery life rather than relying on plugged-in specifications alone.

Account for workstation support and connectivity

Notebookcheck describes mobile workstations as premium business laptops that may offer professional graphics, support options, system-specific accessories, long-term spare-parts availability, warranty services, and legacy ports. These features vary by manufacturer, model, region, and configuration. Confirm the support terms, port selection, and accessory compatibility that matter to your organization before purchase.

What this ranking can—and cannot—tell you

Notebookcheck presents the list as a ranking of thoroughly tested notebooks from the prior 12 months that it considers available, and links to detailed reviews. The order reflects that publication’s reviews, not a workload-specific recommendation or a universal buying verdict. Its page does not state the exact formula behind the overall percentage, and the displayed T16g position and score are not in strict descending score order. Use the ranking to identify candidates, then compare the review and configuration that match your work.

Notebookcheck’s broad category description says workstation laptop pricing typically starts well above $1,000/€1,000 and can reach the thousands; that is a general characterization, not an independently measured market average. Its ranking page says displayed prices update daily, so check the current local price and availability rather than treating a listed price as fixed.
