For one headset across all three, the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5X is a straightforward fit on the manufacturer’s compatibility list, though PlayStation does not support its ChatMix feature. If you regularly switch among consoles and a PC, compare headsets with a powered base station, such as the Astro A50 X or Arctis Nova Pro Omni, against simpler USB-dongle setups.
What to check before choosing
Confirm the exact variant
Wireless headset names often cover different platform variants. Check the product’s full model name before buying: support for Xbox does not automatically mean that every version supports Xbox, PS5, and PC, or that the same features work on each system.
Also distinguish a connection that works from a platform feature that works. For example, SteelSeries lists the Arctis Nova 5X Wireless for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and PC, but says PlayStation does not support ChatMix. Its listed wireless options are USB-C 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth. SteelSeries’ product page is the place to confirm the current regional compatibility details.
Decide how you will connect and switch
A USB wireless dongle is usually the simpler approach when you use one main system at a time. Bluetooth can add a phone connection, but check whether the headset supports simultaneous Bluetooth and game audio rather than assuming it does. A powered base station can make multi-system switching more convenient, but it takes desk space and may need to sit near the devices it connects.

Wireless gaming headsets to compare
| Headset | Compatibility and connection | Best fit | Important caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5X Wireless | Manufacturer lists Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and PC; USB-C 2.4 GHz wireless and Bluetooth. | One headset for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC without a powered multi-device base station. | PlayStation does not support ChatMix, according to SteelSeries. |
| SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7X Wireless | RTINGS describes its wireless dongle as usable with Xbox, PC, and PlayStation, plus Bluetooth. RTINGS measured over 33 hours of continuous runtime for the tested model in its 2026 Xbox roundup. | A middle-tier option for players who want a dongle connection across platforms and Bluetooth for a phone. | Do not transfer the runtime result to the Nova 7 Gen 2: RTINGS says that newer generation had improved battery life but was not tested in that roundup. See RTINGS’ Xbox headset roundup. |
| SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Omni | PC Gamer describes a base station with three USB-C connections, including one dedicated to Xbox, and support for PS5, PC, and other devices. | Players who want a central connection point for several systems and use platform-specific spatial audio options. | PC Gamer reports Dolby Atmos and Windows Sonic on PC/Xbox and Tempest 3D Audio on PS5; these modes are not universal across headsets. See PC Gamer’s review. |
| Logitech G Astro A50 X | Tom’s Hardware describes a powered base station connecting to PC, PS5, and Xbox; 2.4 GHz wireless and Bluetooth are routed through that station. | A multi-system setup where the base station can remain beside the devices. | The headset requires its base station to work, which limits its convenience for travel or setups without room near the connected equipment. See Tom’s Hardware’s review. |
| Audeze Maxwell 2 | RTINGS’ 2026 PS5 guide describes PlayStation and Xbox versions. The Xbox version also works with PC and PlayStation; the PlayStation version provides access to Sony Tempest 3D audio. | Buyers choosing a version around their primary console while retaining some cross-platform use. | Choose the version deliberately: the platform-specific distinction affects feature access. See RTINGS’ PS5 headset guide. |
Which headset suits your setup?
For Xbox, PS5, and PC with minimal setup
Start with the Arctis Nova 5X Wireless if you want a clearly listed option for all three platforms and prefer a USB-C wireless connection plus Bluetooth. Its PlayStation ChatMix limitation matters if balancing game and chat audio from the headset is a priority.

For a dongle-based middle-tier choice
The Arctis Nova 7X is worth comparing if you want a dongle that RTINGS describes as working across Xbox, PC, and PlayStation, with Bluetooth available for phone audio. The more-than-33-hour continuous runtime result applies only to the Nova 7X model RTINGS tested, not the newer Nova 7 Gen 2.
For frequent switching among several devices
Compare the Nova Pro Omni and Astro A50 X by how their stations fit your desk. PC Gamer describes three USB-C connections on the Nova Pro Omni station, including one dedicated to Xbox. Tom’s Hardware describes the A50 X station as the route for both its 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth connections, and says the headset cannot work without it. A station-based setup can centralize connections, but is a poor fit if you need a headset that travels without its supporting hardware.

For a PlayStation-first choice with cross-platform flexibility
Consider which Maxwell 2 version matches your primary console. RTINGS says the Xbox version also works with PC and PlayStation, while the PlayStation version offers access to Tempest 3D audio. That distinction is more useful than treating the two versions as interchangeable.

Among the figures established in the cited sources, RTINGS reports over 33 hours of continuous runtime for its tested Arctis Nova 7X in its 2026 Xbox roundup. That is a model-specific test result, not a promise for every Nova 7 generation or another headset. The source notes improved battery life for Nova 7 Gen 2, but had not tested that model in the roundup.
The cited material does not establish comparable battery results, sound or microphone rankings, comfort findings, or current prices for all five headsets. Treat those as separate checks rather than inferring a winner from platform support alone. Confirm the precise generation, regional compatibility, and current price with the manufacturer or retailer before ordering.
Quick Recap
How to make the final choice
- Write down your systems. Include the exact Xbox or PlayStation generation and whether PC use is required.
- Match the full headset variant to those systems. Check both the manufacturer’s compatibility list and any platform-specific limitations, such as ChatMix support.
- Choose your connection workflow. Decide whether a USB dongle and Bluetooth are enough or whether you want a powered station for multiple devices.
- Check the physical setup. For base-station headsets, make sure there is room near the connected systems; for a travel setup, account for hardware the headset needs in order to operate.
- Verify generation-specific details. Do not apply test results from one model generation to another, and check current availability and pricing for your region.
