The best website visitor tracking tool depends on what your team needs to learn: which B2B companies are visiting, what known CRM contacts have viewed, or where visitors struggle on a page. Leadfeeder, HubSpot, and Microsoft Clarity cover those different jobs; none is a universal answer.

They also observe visitors at different identity levels. Company recognition does not identify an individual, CRM page history depends on cookies and attribution conditions, and behavioral recordings show interactions rather than a prospecting list. Choose based on the decision your team needs to make with the data.

Compare the three tools by the question they answer

Tool Best for What it tracks Pricing established here Important qualification
Leadfeeder B2B sales and demand generation Company-level visits, viewed pages, repeat activity, and account-fit signals Not stated on the official product page. Individual visitors are not displayed by default; personal details are available when someone identifies themselves, such as by submitting a form. Leadfeeder
HubSpot Teams already using HubSpot CRM Cookie-based page history that may be associated with a contact under documented conditions Not stated in the visitor-tracking documentation. Cookie deletion, shared browsers, server-side forms, and consent settings can affect attribution. HubSpot documentation
Microsoft Clarity Support, UX, and product teams diagnosing site friction Behavioral activity through session recordings, heatmaps, and interaction insights Microsoft describes Clarity as free. Microsoft Clarity FAQ Microsoft says recording data is available to webmasters for up to 30 days from recording. Microsoft Clarity FAQ

These are role-based options, not a like-for-like ranking: the products answer different questions, and the available product information does not establish independent, comparable accuracy testing or a complete current price comparison.

What “website visitor tracking” can mean

The term covers several kinds of data that should not be treated as interchangeable:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Company identification: A sales team sees that an organization appears to have visited and can prioritize account activity. This is Leadfeeder’s documented focus, not identification of every person behind a visit. Leadfeeder
  • Contact-associated page history: A CRM records browsing activity and can connect earlier activity to a contact after an identifying interaction, subject to the tracking conditions. That is the HubSpot use case described in its documentation. HubSpot
  • Behavioral analytics: A team examines interactions—such as clicks, scrolling, and movement—to investigate how people use a page. Clarity provides recordings and heatmaps for that kind of diagnosis; it is not a company-prospecting feed. Microsoft Clarity overview

Start with the operational question: should the data help sales prioritize an account, help a CRM user understand a known contact’s journey, or help support and product teams find confusing experiences? Selecting a tool before answering that question can produce data that looks useful but does not change anyone’s next action.

1. Leadfeeder: company-level B2B visit signals

Leadfeeder describes its product as B2B website visitor identification software. Its product page says it shows which companies visit, what they view, and when, and describes company recognition using IP-based recognition. The page also describes behavioral and firmographic filters, account-fit scoring, visit history, alerts, and delivery to CRM or sales tools. Leadfeeder product page

Where it fits

It is the most directly aligned of these three products for a B2B team that wants to spot target-account activity and route it to sales or demand generation. A visit to a high-intent page or repeated activity can be used as a prioritization signal, rather than treated as proof that a particular employee is ready to buy.

Identity and limits

Leadfeeder’s FAQ says individual visitors are not displayed by default. Personal contact details are available when someone identifies themselves—for example, by submitting a form. Use language such as “companies visiting the site,” not “every anonymous person identified.” The available official information does not establish an independent match rate or a complete current price comparison.

Plan and cost

The linked product page does not state a current plan price. It describes the product and its capabilities, but does not support a complete price comparison with the other tools in this article.

2. HubSpot: web activity associated with CRM contacts

HubSpot’s documentation says its tracking code checks for a browser tracking cookie and logs pages visited. Visitors are tracked anonymously before they become contacts. If a visitor later submits a form while tracking code is present and cookies are allowed, HubSpot may associate earlier page views with that contact. The documentation also describes association through a tracked marketing email. HubSpot visitor-tracking documentation

Where it fits

This is a practical fit for organizations already using HubSpot that want web activity available alongside CRM records. It is contact-history functionality, not a substitute for a dedicated company-level B2B identification feed.

Attribution conditions to understand

HubSpot says deleting cookies results in a new visitor cookie being assigned. Shared devices can complicate attribution because more than one person may use the same browser. Server-side form submissions may also affect tracking. Its documentation notes that cookie-banner rules can vary by domain, URL path, or country; the actual setup therefore affects which activity is recorded and associated. HubSpot documentation

Plan and cost

The linked tracking documentation does not state a current HubSpot plan price or establish which plan includes a particular configuration. It supports the tracking behavior described above, not a full pricing comparison.

3. Microsoft Clarity: recordings and heatmaps for diagnosing friction

Microsoft describes Clarity as a behavioral analytics tool with session recordings, heatmaps, and insights for understanding interactions and locating confusing or frustrating page elements. Its FAQ lists mouse movement, clicks, and scrolling among recorded interactions. Clarity overview Clarity FAQ

Where it fits

Support teams can use behavioral evidence to investigate a difficult customer journey, while product and UX teams can examine patterns such as dead or rage clicks and drop-offs. A recording can show what happened on the page; it does not, by itself, establish what a visitor intended or why they left.

Price, retention, and data controls

Microsoft describes Clarity as a free service. Microsoft Learn says recorded data is retained for webmaster access for up to 30 days from recording. The FAQ also says site administrators control what content is sent and should block confidential content in dashboard settings. Microsoft Clarity FAQ

Microsoft also says not to use Clarity on websites or apps targeting people under 18. Microsoft Clarity FAQ

How to choose the right tracking approach

Choose company identification for account prioritization

Choose a company-level tool when the team’s core question is which B2B organizations are visiting high-intent pages and how to route that account activity to sales. Decide how the team will use alerts, fit signals, visit history, or CRM delivery; do not mistake an organization-level match for an identified individual.

Choose CRM tracking for contact journey context

Use native CRM tracking when the team already works in that CRM and needs page history alongside contacts who later identify themselves. The usefulness of the resulting history depends on the browser cookie, tracking code, form or email path, and consent behavior described by the CRM vendor.

Choose behavioral analytics to investigate a broken or confusing journey

Use recordings and heatmaps when the question is what visitors appear to do on a page: where they click, scroll, hesitate, or encounter friction. That evidence can guide investigation, but should not be presented as a direct statement of the visitor’s intent.

Use more than one only for distinct jobs

A company-identification feed and behavioral analytics may complement one another if sales needs account signals while support or product needs to diagnose page problems. Keep the purpose and audience for each dataset clear, and govern access so teams do not treat different identity levels as equivalent.

Implementation and evaluation checklist

  • Define the decision: Specify whether the intended outcome is account follow-up, contact context, or a site-experience fix.
  • Confirm the identity level: Record whether the tool reports a company, a CRM contact under particular conditions, or an anonymous behavioral session.
  • Map the workflow: Establish who receives alerts or reviews reports, what CRM or sales-tool delivery is needed, and who is responsible for acting on a signal.
  • Review privacy and consent behavior: Check cookie handling, disclosures, applicable regional requirements, and the vendor’s terms for the actual site configuration.
  • Protect recorded content: For session recordings, mask or exclude confidential information and confirm what content is sent to the service. Microsoft says administrators control Clarity content and advises blocking confidential content in dashboard settings. Microsoft Clarity FAQ
  • Check retention against the use case: A support investigation that needs later review should account for the stated availability window. Microsoft’s FAQ says Clarity recordings are available to webmasters for up to 30 days from recording. Microsoft Clarity FAQ
  • Run a bounded pilot: Compare tool output with known account or customer activity where appropriate, across the geographies and traffic sources that matter to the team. A vendor’s match claim should not be assumed to generalize across traffic mixes or regions.
  • Calculate total cost: Check current plan limits, any identified-visitor or seat charges, implementation needs, and required integrations directly with the vendor; the available product pages do not provide a full comparable current price set for all three.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a session recording prove why a visitor abandoned a page?

No. A recording can show observable actions, such as a click that did not work or repeated movement around a form. The reason for leaving remains an interpretation unless the visitor provides additional feedback.

What should a team measure during a pilot?

Measure whether the tool produces information that changes the intended workflow: for example, whether sales can act on account signals or whether support and product teams can reproduce a page problem from behavioral evidence. Also record false assumptions or un-actionable results; the pilot should test usefulness in your site’s traffic and geography, not rely on a vendor-wide accuracy claim.

Does a high volume of recorded activity make one tool more accurate?

Not necessarily. Volume describes scale, not whether a company match is correct, whether CRM attribution is reliable for your setup, or whether a recording explains a customer’s intent. Evaluate each tool against the job it is meant to support.
