Choose a mural whose maker explicitly approves it for the room’s exposure, and use a purpose-designed wet-area system for surfaces exposed to direct water. Then match the design and panel layout to the wall, fixtures and room size.
Choose a mural for the bathroom’s moisture exposure
“Bathroom wallpaper” does not describe one uniform material or performance level. A mural’s face material, adhesive, seams and installation system all affect its suitability. A moisture-resistant label is not proof that a product can be installed inside a shower, and ordinary peel-and-stick mural paper should not be treated as waterproof.

For a direct-water installation, confirm substrate preparation, waterproofing, seams, edges and installer qualifications with the manufacturer or a qualified installer. Requirements can depend on the product and building; the cited product descriptions do not establish one universal installation specification.
Pick a mural style that fits the room
Bathroom mural collections include floral, modern, abstract, Japanese-inspired, tropical, geometric and marble designs. Treat the mural as part of the room’s overall scheme: compare its color and visual density with the tile, vanity, fittings and finishes already in place. A large, busy pattern may compete with detailed tile, while a quieter design can make the mural a subtler feature.

Measure the wall and confirm the panel layout

- Measure the full wall area where the mural will sit, including its height and width.
- Note doors, mirrors, outlets, fixtures and trim that could obscure the image or interrupt a panel.
- Ask the supplier to confirm panel dimensions, image crop and alignment before ordering; check whether the design will place important details behind a fixture or cut them at an edge.
- Follow the supplier’s measurement and ordering instructions, since custom-printing methods and panel layouts can differ.
Install according to the mural’s material and instructions
Preparation and drying matter, but the correct process depends on the product. Sherwin-Williams’ wallpaper guide recommends cleaning the wall with soapy water to remove dirt and oils, letting it dry, marking strip locations, cutting with extra length, aligning the pattern, applying adhesive evenly, smoothing bubbles and wrinkles, trimming, and wiping away excess glue. It also advises waiting 24–48 hours before using the bathroom so the paper can dry. These directions concern wallpaper installation; peel-and-stick products and specialist wet-area systems may require different preparation and fitting methods. The guide lists supplies such as primer, adhesive, brushes or rollers, a scoring tool, smoothing and cutting tools, a pencil, level, yardstick and sponge. Do not assume every item is suitable for every mural: check the product instructions before preparing the wall or choosing an adhesive.

How to compare mural options before buying
- Exposure: Is the wall outside a shower, subject to bathroom humidity, occasionally splashed or directly exposed to water?
- Product suitability: Does the maker explicitly approve this material and installation system for that exposure?
- Fit: Can the mural be ordered to the wall dimensions, and have you confirmed its panel layout and crop?
- Design: Does its color and pattern work with existing tile, fittings and the room’s scale?
- Installation: Are the wall preparation, adhesive, seam and drying instructions clear for your chosen product?
The available product descriptions and installation guidance establish practical selection criteria, not a tested ranking of brands or murals. They do not establish comparative lifespan, prices, mold-prevention performance or a universal “best” product. Make the decision by matching the exact product’s documented use to the wall’s exposure.
