If you’re choosing a laptop for PC VR, start with the headset and connection you plan to use—not just a “VR-ready” label or a GPU name. Laptop Mag’s roundup, last updated June 13, 2025, named six options for different needs, from a portable RTX 4060 system to heavy RTX 5080 models. Its list is a dated snapshot, not a verified ranking of October 2026 stock or prices.
What “VR-ready” means—and what it doesn’t
“VR-ready” is not a guarantee that a laptop will work with every headset, game, or connection method. NVIDIA’s laptop guidance recommends a GeForce RTX 3060 or greater, Core i5 or Ryzen 5 or greater, and at least 8 GB of RAM. It also lists Windows 10 64-bit and NVIDIA driver 511.23 or newer; check current headset and application support before treating those software details as current requirements. NVIDIA’s page also includes legacy headset criteria, so its older GTX 1060-era guidance should not be generalized to every current headset.
Use those broad specifications as a screening point, then verify the exact headset, application, laptop configuration, and port connection. NVIDIA’s advice is to “Refer to your manufacturer’s recommendations.” NVIDIA’s VR guidance lists example requirements for several headset families, but the headset manufacturer’s current compatibility information should take priority.
Six picks in Laptop Mag’s 2025 roundup
The configurations and trade-offs below are those cited by Laptop Mag. A model family can be sold with different components, so confirm the exact SKU before comparing listings. These are not a current-price ranking or a like-for-like VR benchmark.

| Pick and use case | Configuration cited in the roundup | Trade-off noted by Laptop Mag |
|---|---|---|

| Dell G16 (7630) — budget | Intel Core i7-1365HX; NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060; 16 GB RAM; 1 TB SSD; 16-inch 2560 × 1600 240 Hz display; 6 lb | The roundup describes its GPU as a higher tier than typical below its stated budget threshold; it flags a tiny touchpad and weak speakers. |
| ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 — thin and light | AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS; NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060; 16 GB RAM; 1 TB SSD; 14-inch 2880 × 1800 120 Hz OLED display; 3.3 lb | Portable with a strong battery-life case, but middling graphics performance among these choices. |
| ASUS ProArt P16 — creator | AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370; NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070; 32 GB RAM; 2 TB SSD; 16-inch 3840 × 2400 60 Hz OLED display; 4.1 lb | Creator-focused display and discrete graphics; the roundup notes a dimmer screen and value concerns. |

| Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 7 — workstation | Intel Core Ultra 7 165H; NVIDIA RTX 1000 Ada Generation; 32 GB RAM; 1 TB SSD; 16-inch 1920 × 1200 60 Hz IPS display; 4.3 lb | A professional workstation option; don’t assume its RTX 1000 Ada will outperform GeForce configurations in games. |
How to choose for your headset and workload
Match the laptop to the VR workload
The cited range runs from RTX 4060 laptops to RTX 5080 models, plus a workstation with an RTX 1000 Ada. That spread does not establish a universal performance order for every headset or application. Consider the exact laptop GPU configuration and sustained performance, as well as whether your main use is gaming, creative work, or professional applications.
Check the headset’s connection requirements
Ports vary by headset and connection mode. NVIDIA lists one USB 3.0 port for Quest and Quest 2; USB 3.0 plus DisplayPort 1.4 for Rift S and HP Reverb-class examples; and three USB 3.0 ports plus DisplayPort 1.4 for Valve Index and HTC Vive Pro-class examples. These are page-listed examples, not a substitute for checking your specific headset.

- Internal Specifications: 8GB DDR5 Memory (2 DDR5 Slots Total, Maximum 32GB); 512GB PCIe Gen 4 SSD
- Stay Connected: Your gaming sanctuary is wherever you are. On the couch? Settle in with fast and stable Wi-Fi 6. Gaming cafe? Get an edge online with Killer Ethernet E2600 Gigabit Ethernet. No matter your location, Nitro V 15 ensures you're always in the driver's seat. With the powerful Thunderbolt 4 port, you have the trifecta of power charging and data transfer with bidirectional movement and video display in one interface.
For a wired DisplayPort headset, verify the exact laptop’s manufacturer specifications: confirm that the required video output exists, carries DisplayPort, and is routed in a way the headset can use. A GPU model name alone does not establish the connection path, and the available information does not validate port routing for every configuration of these six laptop families.
Balance portability with non-VR use
The G14 cited by Laptop Mag weighs 3.3 lb and uses an RTX 4060; the Raider 18 HX AI weighs 7.8 lb and pairs an RTX 5080 with 64 GB of RAM. Those examples illustrate different priorities, not a single best fit. For use beyond VR, compare screen size and type, refresh rate, keyboard, audio, ports, and storage alongside weight and battery results.

What Laptop Mag’s tests do—and don’t—show
Laptop Mag says it reviewed the listed laptops for VR games and other tasks. Its Alienware 16 Area-51 review section reports a Geekbench 6 score of 20,498, a 3DMark Fire Strike Ultra score of 14,073, a Handbrake test time of 1 minute 58 seconds, and 4 hours 10 minutes in a web-browsing battery rundown. These are Laptop Mag’s results for its tested configuration in 2025; the performance figures are not VR frame-rate measurements.
The roundup reports 2 hours 33 minutes of web-surfing battery life for its tested MSI Raider 18 HX AI configuration. Battery results describe that test, not a guaranteed runtime for other configurations or VR use. The available sources do not provide an independent, current, cross-brand VR benchmark of all six laptops, so the models cannot be ranked here by comparable headset performance.

Check before buying in 2026
The June 13, 2025 roundup predates this October 2026 buying context. Before choosing one of its models, verify that the exact configuration is still sold, the laptop GPU and memory match the listing, the required ports and display routing work with your headset, and the current headset and application requirements are met. Check live price and availability as well; the roundup does not establish either for today.
