There is no single VPN that is best for every Mexico use case. Security.org’s Mexico guide, updated August 25, 2026, names NordVPN its overall pick, Surfshark for streaming, and Proton VPN for privacy. Comparitech’s Mexico guide, updated February 4, 2026, names NordVPN for getting a Mexican IP. These are reviewers’ conclusions, not results independently reproduced here. The right choice depends first on whether you are in Mexico and want a secure connection, or abroad and need a Mexican IP address.
What do you need a VPN for in Mexico?
Secure browsing while you are in Mexico
If you are physically in Mexico and want to protect traffic on public Wi-Fi or another network, choose for credible privacy information, current security features, and apps that work on your devices. Connect to a nearby or otherwise suitable VPN endpoint; you do not need a Mexican exit location just because you are in Mexico. A VPN encrypts traffic between your device and the VPN server, but the provider remains part of the trust chain. It does not make you anonymous or protect you from phishing, malware, compromised accounts, or monitoring on your device.
Get a Mexican IP address from abroad
If a website or service needs to see a Mexican network location, choose a provider that offers a Mexico server and select Mexico in its app. A Mexico server is necessary for this purpose, but it cannot guarantee that a bank, streaming platform, or other service will accept the connection. Comparitech’s guide on getting a Mexican IP address treats this as a different goal from securing browsing while traveling.
Best VPNs for Mexico: what the reviews support
The recommendations below are attributed to the named reviewers. Server counts, speed results, and streaming tests are snapshots rather than guarantees; do not read review-site scores as a shared measurement scale.

| Provider | Reviewer’s Mexico-specific angle | Evidence and limits |
|---|---|---|
| NordVPN | Security.org’s overall Mexico choice (August 25, 2026); Comparitech’s choice for Mexican IP access (February 4, 2026). | Security.org lists 30 Mexico servers; Comparitech reports a reviewer-measured average of 187.33 Mbps on NordVPN’s Mexican servers in its 2026 guide. The speed is Comparitech’s result, not a reproduced test, and its conditions may not match yours. |
| Surfshark | Security.org’s streaming choice (August 25, 2026). | Security.org reports testing access to Mexican libraries and says Surfshark allows unlimited simultaneous connections. TechRadar’s general 2026 review reports good regional Netflix and local free-service access, with exceptions including Amazon Prime Video and US YouTube. Neither establishes access to every Mexican service or catalog. |
| Proton VPN | Security.org’s privacy choice (August 25, 2026). | Security.org cites audited no-logs claims and open-source apps. Proton’s official Mexico page, accessed October 4, 2026, advertises over 30 servers in Mexico as part of a network of over 20,000 servers in more than 140 countries. That is a provider claim. The page’s count differs from Security.org’s table, which marks Proton’s Mexico count “unknown”; figures may reflect different dates or counting methods. |
| Private Internet Access (PIA) | Security.org lists it as having the largest Mexico server count among providers in its comparison (August 25, 2026). | That comparison lists 127 Mexico servers. Treat the number as Security.org’s dated count, not a current independently checked total; verify live coverage with the provider before subscribing. |
| CyberGhost | Security.org’s torrenting category in its Mexico comparison (August 25, 2026). | Consider it if torrenting is relevant to your use. Check its current Mexico coverage and policy details before choosing; the cited category alone does not establish it as the best option for other needs. |
| ExpressVPN | A general VPN alternative, not a Mexico-specific winner in the reviewed Mexico comparisons. | TechRadar’s 2026 general review discusses its audit and performance information, but the Mexico-specific sources here do not establish it as a Mexico winner. |
How to choose the right Mexico VPN
- Check the exit location you actually need. For a Mexican IP while abroad, confirm that Mexico appears as a server location. For secure browsing from Mexico, a nearby endpoint may be more useful than a Mexican one.
- Read privacy claims precisely. Distinguish a provider’s no-logs statement from an independent audit, and check the audit’s scope and date. An audit is evidence about a defined review, not a permanent guarantee. A VPN also does not stop websites and apps from identifying you through account activity, cookies, or other data.
- Verify access to your exact service. A reviewer’s streaming result applies to its test conditions and date. VPN IP addresses can be blocked, and access may differ by service, catalog, subscription, region, app, and device. Neither the cited Mexico tests nor TechRadar’s broader review guarantees access to ViX, Televisa, or a particular catalog today.
- Compare your own devices and network conditions. Check that the provider has suitable apps for your phone, computer, or other devices and supports any router setup you require. Speed and stability depend on factors including your location, internet provider, chosen server, and time of day; one review’s speed result cannot predict yours.
- Calculate the actual subscription cost. Compare the amount charged now with the renewal price, billing period, refund window, and cancellation terms shown at checkout. The cited review pages do not establish a current checkout offer or verified renewal price.
How to connect to a Mexican VPN server
- Choose a provider whose current app supports your device and offers Mexico as a location if you need a Mexican IP.
- Install the provider’s official app and sign in.
- In the app’s location map or country list, select Mexico to request a Mexican exit IP. Proton VPN’s official Mexico page says users can select Mexico on its map or country list; app labels may differ across providers and versions.
- Reconnect to the website or app you need. If it does not work, check the service’s terms and support guidance, try an available server in the same country, or contact the provider. A VPN connection does not guarantee that a service will accept it.
If your goal is only to secure browsing while already in Mexico, choose an appropriate nearby endpoint instead of selecting Mexico automatically. Follow workplace, school, banking, and streaming-service rules; a VPN is not a substitute for permission or compliance.
