For a 24/7 YouTube stream, set vMix to a resolution and frame rate your connection can sustain, then use YouTube’s matching encoder bitrate: 10 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p30, or 4 Mbps for H.264 at 240p–720p30. Set keyframes to every two seconds, use H.264 video with AAC audio as a conservative starting point, and test stream health from the place vMix will run. These are YouTube’s published encoder recommendations—not a guarantee that a particular Indian broadband plan or vMix setup will stay connected for a full day.
Recommended vMix settings to start with
Use the YouTube bitrate row that matches your actual output resolution and frame rate. The values below are YouTube’s H.264 guidance, verified in 2026; they are not India-specific bandwidth thresholds.

These figures cover the listed frame rates. In particular, do not treat the 720p30 recommendation as a 720p60 recommendation. For other output combinations, consult YouTube’s current encoder table and match the exact resolution, frame rate, and codec rather than extrapolating from these examples. - Video codec: H.264 is a conservative, broadly compatible choice.
- Keyframes: set a two-second interval; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds.
- Audio: select AAC and configure the correct audio input in vMix. The cited guidance here does not establish a mandatory audio bitrate for this use case.
- Encoder: select FFMPEG in vMix. Its current settings guide calls FFMPEG recommended and lists H.264, AV1, and HEVC video support alongside AAC audio. H.264 with AAC is a cautious starting combination; verify compatibility and stream health in YouTube Studio.
In vMix, set the stream encode size to match your production output. A lower output resolution can reduce the encoder’s video bitrate requirement, but only select a format you can sustain and that suits the content.

How to choose resolution and bitrate for Indian broadband
There is no universal “Indian broadband” setting. Advertised plan speed does not establish the sustained upload capacity at the premises where vMix runs, and the official guidance cited here supplies no India-specific bitrate table or minimum broadband-plan speed. Measure upload performance at the actual encoder location, at the times you expect to stream, and test with the same audio and moving video you plan to broadcast.
- Pick an output format: start with 1080p30 only if your connection, computer, and production can sustain it. Otherwise choose a lower resolution or frame rate.
- Match YouTube’s bitrate row: set vMix’s video bitrate to the recommendation for that precise format and codec. Do not use a 30 fps value for 60 fps output.
- Check sustained upload: YouTube Help recommends running a speed test to test upload bitrate. Test from the streaming location; a result elsewhere in the home or on another network may not reflect the encoder’s path.
- Test under realistic conditions: run the intended audio and moving content while the network is in normal use, then review YouTube Studio’s stream health and messages. For a 24/7 operation, a meaningful test period is prudent, but YouTube does not prescribe a fixed test duration or upload-headroom percentage.
More available upload capacity than the encoder target gives the connection room to handle variation, but no particular margin is established by the cited sources. A network buffer in vMix can absorb some variability: vMix describes it as a maximum buffer that affects latency and suggests increasing it when maximum network speed is unreliable. Configure the YouTube stream in vMix
vMix documents two setup routes. The exact screen controls can change by installed version, so confirm the labels shown in your current software.

- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the live stream and choose its stream settings.
- Copy the stream key for that event. Treat it as a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to the stream.
- In vMix, open the streaming settings, choose the YouTube destination or custom RTMP workflow as applicable, and enter the key in the stream-key field.
- Set the output size, H.264 video bitrate, two-second keyframe interval, and AAC audio input; then start streaming from vMix.
- Return to YouTube Studio and check the stream preview, health status, and any warnings before making the broadcast public or relying on it continuously.

24/7 operation: what settings cannot guarantee
Encoder settings alone cannot promise that a vMix installation, an Indian ISP connection, or a YouTube live session will remain connected for 24 hours. Sustained upload at the actual premises and ongoing stream-health monitoring matter. The cited official sources do not set a minimum broadband plan speed or guarantee uninterrupted service for any specific configuration.
Do not assume YouTube will preserve a complete 24-hour recording automatically: the sources cited here do not establish the current archive limit for continuous streams. If a full recording matters, verify YouTube’s current live archive behavior and plan a local recording workflow only after checking storage and system capacity.

Common problems and fixes
- YouTube reports poor or unstable stream health: confirm that vMix’s output format and bitrate match YouTube’s guidance, then test sustained upload at the encoder location. If the connection cannot sustain the selected format, lower the output resolution or frame rate and use the matching bitrate guidance.
- The stream disconnects during a long run: encoder settings do not guarantee connection continuity. Check the local network and ISP connection, review YouTube Studio messages, and monitor the stream rather than assuming an advertised plan speed is sufficient.
- Video appears but audio does not: check that vMix is using the intended audio source and AAC encoding, then confirm audio in the YouTube preview before relying on the stream.
- The stream key is rejected or the wrong broadcast starts: check that vMix has the key for the intended YouTube event. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update vMix.
- vMix offers a different encoder or output control: availability can depend on the installed version and hardware. vMix documents hardware-encoder availability and limitations that vary by GPU generation; check the guide and your system rather than assuming a particular hardware encoder is available. vMix’s Streaming Settings guide
