There is no evidence-based, universal winner among under-eye patches for puffiness, dark circles, and dryness. These products can temporarily hydrate the skin and improve its appearance, but results depend on the concern, the formula, and the individual. LANEIGE and COSRX offer hydrogel options with ingredients relevant to hydration and the look of tired under-eyes; compare their labels and directions rather than treating either as a proven cure.
What under-eye patches can—and cannot—do
Under-eye patches are topical cosmetic products. Their main practical role is to deliver a product formula to the skin beneath the eyes for a limited period. Hydrating ingredients may temporarily make dry skin look smoother, while brands may market other ingredients for the appearance of puffiness or dark circles. Ingredient lists alone do not establish that a patch will produce a particular result.
Dark circles and puffiness have multiple possible contributors, including vascular congestion and permeability, melanin- and hemoglobin-related pigmentation, thin skin, heredity, facial structure, UV exposure, allergies, and chronic irritation. A cosmetic patch may not address the factor behind a particular person’s concern. The reviewed clinical article also notes that there is no established gold-standard treatment for the broad population across skin types and ethnicities. What the evidence says about results
LANEIGE’s reported results
On its product page, LANEIGE reports that an instrumental evaluation found improved appearance of under-eye puffiness after 20 minutes in 100% of 32 subjects. The brand also reports that 96% of those subjects self-assessed a reduced appearance of dark circles after two weeks. These are undated, product-specific brand claims; the puffiness figure is instrumental, while the dark-circle figure is self-assessed. They are not independent comparisons or estimates of how all patches perform. See the brand’s description of its evaluation.

Why a cream study does not prove a patch works
A 2024 journal issue reported an IRB-approved, open-label 12-week study of a multicorrective topical eye cream in women aged 35–60 with specified under-eye concerns. Forty participants enrolled and 37 completed the study. Because it studied a cream—not the patches compared here—and was open-label, its findings cannot establish which patch works best. A 2015 study examined a specific eye-counter-pad formulation containing caffeine and vitamin K in an emulsified Emu oil base. A result for that formulation should not be generalized to unrelated eye patches. Read the formulation-specific study in the Journal of Research in Pharmacy Practice.

Choose by concern, formula, and directions
- For dryness: Compare the ingredient lists for moisturizing ingredients such as glycerin and hyaluronic acid. COSRX lists glycerin and multiple forms of hyaluronic acid; that is a formula comparison, not proof of superior hydration.
- For the appearance of puffiness or dark circles: Look at what the brand specifically claims and how it assessed the result. Keep instrumental findings separate from self-assessments, and do not assume either predicts your own response.
- For sensitive skin or ingredient concerns: Check the complete product label and avoid ingredients you know you do not tolerate. A product’s marketing language is not a substitute for its ingredient list or warnings.
- For practical use: Compare wear time and recommended frequency with your routine. Follow the directions for the exact product rather than transferring one product’s schedule to another.
No direct comparative efficacy result establishes a best patch across puffiness, dark circles, and dryness. A sensible choice is therefore the product whose ingredients and directions suit your main concern and whose evidence claims you can interpret appropriately.

Follow the package directions for the product you buy. The DailyMed label for its listed eye-mask gel says to avoid eye contact and broken skin, and to stop use and ask a doctor if rash, peeling, severe irritation, or signs of an allergic reaction occur. It also warns of increased sun sensitivity and advises consulting a doctor before use if pregnant, planning pregnancy, breastfeeding, or using prescription retinoids or strong exfoliants. Those cautions apply to that labeled product; check the label for any patch you use.
