For a practical starting point, set Dragon Age: Origins – Ultimate Edition to 1280×800, Very High graphics, and Very High texture detail. In a June 30, 2026 report, PC Gamer’s Shaun Prescott said those settings ran at a locked 60 fps in his session. Treat that as one player’s result, not a guarantee: Steam currently labels the game Unsupported, and the report did not establish a universal frame rate, battery life, or best Proton version.
Recommended starting graphics settings
Open the game’s graphics options after launch and try the configuration reported by Prescott:
- Resolution: 1280×800
- Graphics detail: Very High
- Texture detail: Very High
Prescott reported a steady 60 fps with these settings in his June 30, 2026 session. This is a useful baseline to test on your own Deck, not a controlled benchmark or a promise that every scene and system configuration will hold 60 fps. The report did not specify a universally applicable SteamOS build, Proton version, frame-rate cap, or TDP setting.
If performance is uneven
If your session stutters or feels inconsistent, lower graphics or texture detail and compare how the game plays on your device. If you want to prioritize battery life, lower detail settings are another option to evaluate, but the cited session included no battery-life measurement and does not establish a particular lower preset as best. Judge any change by the smoothness and image quality you actually see.

Why Steam says Unsupported
Steam’s listing for Dragon Age: Origins – Ultimate Edition currently labels it Unsupported. Valve defines that label as meaning a game is currently not functional on Steam Deck. That is the official compatibility assessment; it is distinct from Prescott’s later individual report of successfully playing the game after setup.
Valve’s compatibility categories also explain what a more favorable label would mean: “Verified — The game works great on Steam Deck, right out of the box.” “Playable — The game may require some manual tweaking by the user to play*.” Valve’s criteria include controller input, support for the Deck’s 1280×800 or 1280×720 display resolution, legible text, and Proton compatibility for games that use Proton. Unsupported should therefore not be read as a claim that no player can make the game run, just as one successful report does not change Steam’s official label.
Set up controls for the PC interface
The PC edition does not have native gamepad support, according to Prescott’s report, so expect to use a Steam controller layout rather than assume the game will provide Deck-native controls. One community layout approach mapped movement to the left stick and mouse-pointer control to the right trackpad. Trackpad pointer control can help with the game’s mouse-oriented interface, but it is only one reported option.
- Open the game’s controller settings in Steam and browse the community layouts for Dragon Age: Origins.
- Review the mappings before playing. Confirm that movement, pointer control, and frequently used actions are comfortable.
- Check specifically whether quick-save and quick-load are mapped, and adjust the layout if needed.
Compare layouts by how reliably you can point at interface elements and reach essential actions. No specific layout is established as universally best or certified by Valve.

The Steam listing is for Dragon Age: Origins – Ultimate Edition, developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts. Steam lists its release date as October 26, 2010, and describes the Ultimate Edition as including Dragon Age: Origins, Awakening, and nine content packs. The reported settings and control approach concern the PC game played through Steam on Steam Deck.
