These are visibility and comfort choices—not a proven performance preset: Undead Labs’ cited documentation does not publish per-setting FPS gains or current PC benchmarks.
Start with a visibility-first setup
Use the settings to improve what you can see and how comfortable the image feels. Then assess performance on your own system rather than assuming that a visual change will raise frame rate.

How to choose your field of view
Undead Labs’ Update 29 notes specify a range of 40–100° and a default of 70°. To change it, open Settings > Video > Field of View. The developer’s accessibility page describes the range as a percentage, but the Update 29 notes give degrees; the degree values are used here because that update states them explicitly.
A wider view shows more of the surroundings, but it may not feel clearer for everyone. Screen size, viewing distance, and preference affect what feels comfortable. Start at 70° and change the value incrementally, giving yourself time to judge the result during ordinary play.

Set gamma for readable dark scenes
Gamma changes in-game brightness and is listed by Undead Labs as a visual accessibility option available before starting the game. Adjust it for your display and room: aim to distinguish details in dark areas without making the whole image look faded. The official guidance does not prescribe a numeric gamma setting, so there is no evidence-based universal value to enter.
Should you turn motion blur off?
Undead Labs documents Low and High motion-blur levels on its accessibility page, and says the option was added to Video settings on PC and Xbox. If blur during camera movement makes targets or scenery harder for you to read, try Low or Off and keep the setting that feels better. The documentation does not say that turning motion blur off improves frame rate, so treat this as a comfort and visibility adjustment.

Keep or hide HUD and navigation elements
The developer documents controls to show or hide the HUD, minimap, and in-world objective icons. Leave them visible if they help you stay oriented; hide individual elements if you prefer a cleaner screen and can navigate comfortably without them. These controls affect interface visibility, not a documented performance setting.
What these settings can—and cannot—tell you about performance
Undead Labs’ cited pages do not provide a universal “best” performance preset, controlled FPS comparisons for individual settings, or current PC benchmarks. There is therefore no supported basis for promising a particular frame-rate increase from changing gamma, field of view, motion blur, or interface visibility.

As historical console context, Update 23 reported improvements providing 60 frames per second at full 4K on Xbox Series X and 1080p on Xbox Series S. That is a developer statement about those consoles and that update—not a current guarantee for every console, PC, or configuration. It does not establish a PC settings recipe.

If performance remains poor on PC, record resource usage while the game is running. Undead Labs asks players submitting a support report to observe CPU, memory, and GPU usage and include notable information.

- Start the game and reproduce the slowdown you want to report.
- Observe CPU, memory, and GPU usage while the game runs; note any unusually high or changing usage alongside when the problem occurs.
- Check the installed game version in the Settings screen. Undead Labs says the version number appears in the lower-left corner.
- Include the version and your observations about CPU, memory, and GPU usage in a support submission.
These details help describe the issue; the cited support instructions do not identify a single resource-usage threshold that diagnoses every performance problem.
