For a MacBook with MagSafe 3, the replacement you need is a USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable. Apple lists its own 2 m cable as a replacement. The cable connects to a separate USB-C power adapter; older MagSafe and MagSafe 2 cables are not compatible. Check your exact Mac model and adapter before buying.
Which cable should you buy?
Apple’s official replacement is the Apple USB-C to MagSafe 3 Cable (2 m). One end plugs into a USB-C power adapter, and the MagSafe 3 end attaches to the Mac. The cable is not a power adapter, so you may need to buy or use the adapter separately.
The available evidence establishes Apple’s cable as a compatible replacement, but does not establish that it is better than every third-party cable for durability, safety, price, or warranty. No third-party model can be named a best buy on that basis alone. If considering another cable, verify that its product listing explicitly identifies MagSafe 3 compatibility and check its length, seller support, warranty, and any substantiated safety or durability information.
Check that your Mac has MagSafe 3
Do not choose by “MacBook Pro” or “MacBook Air” alone: the connector depends on the specific model. Apple’s compatibility guidance covers MacBook Pro models introduced in 2021 or later, except the 13-inch M2 model introduced in 2022, and MacBook Air models introduced in 2022 or later. Check your exact Mac model against Apple’s adapter and cable guidance before ordering.

Original MagSafe and MagSafe 2 are different connector generations. Apple says those power adapters are not compatible with MagSafe 3; a cable that fits an older MagSafe Mac is not the replacement for a MagSafe 3 Mac.
Make sure the power adapter is suitable
The cable and adapter are separate components. Apple recommends the adapter and cable specified for the Mac, and its model guidance lists recommended adapter wattages. Do not assume every USB-C power adapter will provide the same charging performance. Check the recommendation for your exact Mac model rather than selecting an adapter from the connector shape alone.

USB-C charging can be an alternative
Some MagSafe 3-equipped Macs can also charge through USB-C, provided you have a suitable USB-C charging cable and power source. This is an alternate charging route, not a MagSafe 3 replacement cable. Apple says the Mac charges through only one port at a time, using the source that provides the most power, so connecting both MagSafe and USB-C does not make charging faster.
When fast charging is relevant
Apple says supported MacBook Air models introduced in 2022 or later and 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models introduced in 2021 or later can charge to 50 percent in around 30 minutes with an appropriate combination of power source and cable. This is conditional guidance, not a result guaranteed by buying a cable alone. Confirm that your Mac and the power source meet Apple’s requirements in its fast-charge guidance.

Check the connection before replacing a working cable
If MagSafe charging is unreliable, Apple recommends a few basic checks before deciding that the cable has failed:
- Confirm that the electrical outlet works.
- Check that the adapter’s wattage is appropriate for your Mac.
- Inspect the Mac’s power port and both cable connectors for debris.
- Disconnect and reconnect the cable and adapter, then restart the Mac.
- If the MagSafe indicator repeatedly flashes amber, try another MagSafe 3 cable or a USB-C charging method if your Mac supports it. If the problem persists, contact Apple or an authorized service provider.
