There is no single best Gran Turismo 7 setup for every player or display. Choose Prioritize Frame Rate for responsive motion, or Prioritize Ray Tracing/Resolution for visual detail where supported. For 120 Hz, you also need a compatible display, the PS5’s 120 Hz output enabled, and GT7’s 120 Hz option; that mode changes rendering behavior and can reduce resolution. HDR likewise depends on both your display and PS5 settings.
Choose a graphics priority for the way you play
In GT7, open Options > Global Options > Display Settings. Polyphony Digital documents two priorities, each with a different trade-off in its Gran Turismo 7 Online Manual: Options.
| GT7 setting | Choose it when | What it prioritizes | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prioritize Frame Rate | You value responsive motion and driving input. | The highest possible frame rate through the game. | Some demanding effects, including ray tracing, are disabled or simplified. |
| Prioritize Ray Tracing/Resolution | You prefer visual detail. | Ray tracing in replays and 3D scenes, with resolution prioritized where supported. | Ray tracing is not used in sections where response time matters. On PS5 Pro, the manual says ray tracing is also used during races under this priority. |
These options are not a universal ranking: pick the trade-off that fits your preference and setup. The manual does not present them as a measured performance comparison.
Set up 120 Hz only if your whole display chain supports it
GT7’s 120 Hz option depends on the console, game and connected display. First check whether the display supports 120 Hz at the resolution and features you intend to use. PlayStation’s PS5 resolution guide explains how to inspect connected HDMI device capabilities, including resolution, HDR, VRR and 120 Hz.

- On the PS5, open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > 120 Hz Output and set it to Automatic.
- In GT7, enable its 120 Hz option in Options > Global Options > Display Settings, if your display supports it.
- Choose your graphics priority, then use GT7’s Display Settings Assistant to see how the game describes the resulting output for your configuration.
GT7 says that at 120 Hz, rendering resolution and effects vary according to graphics priority and VRR. The game’s Display Settings Assistant says 120 Hz lowers resolution when Prioritize Frame Rate is selected. At 120 Hz, ray tracing is not used for races and replays; the manual says resolution is maintained when Prioritize Ray Tracing/Resolution is selected. As the GT7 manual puts it: “When outputting to 120 Hz, the rendering resolution and quality of effects will adjust according to the graphics priority and VRR (variable refresh rate) settings that have been applied.”
Calibrate HDR and image appearance on your display
GT7 uses HDR or SDR based on the PS5’s HDR setting and whether the connected television supports HDR. The game’s Display Settings Assistant says HDR is used with an HDR-capable display when the console is set to Always On or On When Supported.

- Haptic feedback - Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions with dual actuators which replace traditional rumble motors. In your hands, these dynamic vibrations can simulate the feeling of everything from environments to the recoil of different weapons. .Operating temperature : 41 °F to 95 °F (5 °C to 35 °C)
- Adaptive triggers - Experience varying levels of force and tension as you interact with your in-game gear and environments. From pulling back an increasingly tight bowstring to hitting the brakes on a speeding car, feel physically connected to your on-screen actions.
- Built-in microphone and headset jack - Chat with friends online using the built-in microphone or by connecting a headset to the 3.5mm jack. Easily switch voice capture on and off at a moment’s notice with the dedicated mute button. Internet and account for PlayStation Network required.
- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
- Confirm that the connected display supports HDR and set the PS5 HDR option to Always On or On When Supported.
- Open GT7’s Display Settings Assistant.
- During setup, sit directly facing the center of the display and adjust exposure and saturation against the images shown.
Use the assistant rather than copying a numeric exposure or saturation value: the official guidance describes a calibration process, not a value that is best for every screen or room.
Adjust controller or steering-wheel response
Use the pre-race Quick Menu’s Controller Settings to tune input. GT7’s Controller Settings manual explains that lower controller steering sensitivity produces slower tire response and smoother steering, while higher values make response faster and more sensitive. Button assignments and vibration are adjustable in the controller options; the Basic Controller Functions manual describes the gamepad controls.

GT7’s Display Settings manual covers race information, driver lists, car-name indicators, online driver names and the best-lap ghost. Enable the information you need to read during a race or practice session and hide what distracts you. The manual documents these as display preferences; it does not establish a competitive advantage for a particular layout.

Quick setup checklist
- Want more responsive motion? Start with Prioritize Frame Rate.
- Prefer visual detail? Start with Prioritize Ray Tracing/Resolution and account for its response-time trade-off.
- Trying 120 Hz? Verify display capability, set PS5 120 Hz Output to Automatic and enable the game option; expect rendering behavior to depend on priority and VRR.
- Using HDR? Check both HDR display support and the PS5 HDR setting, then calibrate with GT7’s assistant.
- Steering feels too sharp or slow? Adjust controller steering sensitivity gradually, or calibrate a wheel and tune its force-feedback settings.
