For a cold game, a portable blanket is the more straightforward choice: NFL guidance allows fans to carry one over an arm or shoulder through screening. A stadium seat cushion may make sitting more comfortable, but whether it can enter depends on the venue. Check your stadium’s current policy before you buy or pack either item.
Blanket or seat cushion: which should you bring?

When choosing a portable stadium blanket, focus on whether it packs and carries conveniently for your trip. Confirm the venue’s current entry instructions before attending, particularly if the event is not covered by the NFL policy.

Seat cushion rules differ by stadium
Do not assume a cushion accepted at one stadium will be allowed at another. These published examples show why checking the venue’s own current rules matters:
- SoFi Stadium: Its stadium policy permits soft seat cushions no larger than 22 by 16 inches. Cushions with pockets, metal, or hard materials are prohibited.
- Allegiant Stadium: Its A–Z guide lists seat cushions among prohibited items.
- NFL guidance: The NFL clear bag policy excludes large traditional cushions with pockets, zippers, compartments, or covers under the policy it describes. Consult the individual team’s stadium information for specifics.
How to choose a portable stadium seat cushion
Before selecting a portable stadium seat cushion or stadium seat pad, check the target venue’s policy and compare the item against its requirements. A compact appearance alone does not establish that a cushion is permitted.

- Dimensions: Measure the cushion and compare it with the venue’s stated limit, if one is given.
- Construction: Look for restrictions on pockets, zippers, compartments, covers, metal, or hard materials.
- Softness and portability: Consider whether it meets the venue’s material rules and is practical to carry.
- Space: Account for the seat and surrounding space the cushion will occupy.
If the venue prohibits cushions or its policy is unclear, do not rely on another stadium’s rules. Check the venue’s official policy or contact it before bringing one.
