If you want a phone with a real, pressable Home button and a display that doesn’t fill the whole front, the clearest documented choice is the iPhone SE (3rd generation). Apple introduced it in 2022. It has a 4.7-inch LCD and a Home button with Touch ID built in. It is also an older phone, so check availability and software support before you buy.
If you only want Home, Back and Recents controls to stay visible, a modern Android phone set to 3-button navigation does that. Those buttons are drawn on the screen. They are not physical keys.
First, decide what “physical navigation controls” means to you
People use the phrase for two different things, and the right phone depends on which one you mean.
- A pressable Home button. This is a hardware key on the front of the phone that you can feel and click.
- Persistent navigation buttons. These are Home, Back and Recents controls that are always visible. They can be software buttons on the screen.
Searches like “Is there any modern phone with a physical home button?” and “What Android phones have a physical home button and no notch or hole in the display?” show the underlying need. Readers want tactile, predictable navigation and a screen that doesn’t take over the whole front face. Those reader questions describe demand, not product availability. This guide covers only what the manufacturers document.

The best match for a physical Home button: iPhone SE (3rd generation)
Apple’s official tech specs list the iPhone SE (3rd generation) as a 2022 model. Apple labels the control “Home button/Touch ID” and describes the fingerprint sensor as built into the Home button. That makes it the one fully documented phone here that satisfies the strict reading of the request.

| Introduced | 2022 |
| Display | 4.7-inch widescreen LCD |

What to check before buying
- Availability and condition. This guide doesn’t establish whether Apple still sells the phone, or at what price. Many listings may be used or refurbished, so confirm the condition and the seller’s return policy.
- Carrier compatibility. Regional network model variants exist. Confirm that the exact model supports your carrier’s bands.
- Software support. This guide doesn’t establish how long the phone will keep getting updates. Check Apple’s current support information before you commit.
- Size. A 4.7-inch screen is small by current standards. Reading and video will feel cramped if you’re used to a large display.
The compromise: Android with 3-button navigation
Google Android Help describes 3-button navigation as a navigation bar with dedicated Home, Back and Recents buttons. The bar sits at the bottom or side of the screen. It gives you familiar, always-visible targets in place of swipe gestures. It does not give you a hardware key, and it doesn’t change the screen’s shape or bezels.
Google’s guidance says this mode “is recommended for users with limited dexterity or who struggle to perform precise gestures.” That suits anyone who finds gestures unreliable.

How to turn it on
Google says the setting paths differ between Pixel phones and other brands, and some older Android devices differ too. Open Settings and look for the system navigation or gesture settings. Then choose 3-button navigation. If you can’t find it, search “navigation” inside Settings.

- Can you physically press the key? This is a hardware Home button, not an on-screen one.
- Are the controls on the display? On-screen buttons use screen space and are not tactile.
- What is the bezel and display layout? Check that the phone has the front design you want.
- How old is the model, and is it still supported with updates?
- Is it available where you live? Check the condition and the carrier compatibility.
If you consider a phone not covered here, confirm its navigation hardware in the manufacturer’s own specifications before treating it as a match. A broad “best phones” list doesn’t tell you whether a phone has a Home button.
