For The Simpsons Game Recomp, start at 60 FPS, your display’s native resolution, and 1x render scale. These are settings for the community project that recompiles the 2007 Xbox 360 game—not an official PC edition and not The Simpsons: Hit & Run. You need your own Xbox 360 copy. Because the recomp is evolving, check its project repository for the current build and setup instructions.
What game do these settings cover?
The Simpsons Game Recomp is a community project that recompiles the 2007 Xbox 360 game for PC. The project describes support for Windows and Linux, as well as Steam Deck use. It does not include the game itself; you need your own Xbox 360 copy. This is separate from The Simpsons: Hit & Run, which is a different game.
Builds and supported details can change. Consult the project repository for current platform information, downloads, and setup steps.
What resolution and render scale should you use?
Begin with your display’s native resolution and 1x render scale. If performance remains smooth and you want a sharper image, try 2x or 3x render scale. Increasing the scale supersamples the game image and adds GPU work, so raise it gradually rather than assuming a higher value is always better.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
FXAA is enabled by default on new installs, according to the project documentation. It smooths the game’s cel-shaded outlines at relatively low cost. The project also notes that 2x or 3x rendering can improve outline quality.
What FPS should you use?
Set the frame rate to 60 FPS to begin; the project identifies this as its default and recommended setting. Choose 30 FPS if you prefer to match the original console’s frame rate. The project says its frame scheduler cannot exceed 60 FPS, so selecting 90 or 120 does not produce more game frames and may make frame pacing less even.

The project documentation reports a device-specific example on Steam Deck: 1x render scale holds 60 FPS, while 2x runs at about 59 FPS in Springfield, described as the busiest area, with occasional drops. Treat this as a reported example for that device and scene, not a promise for other PCs or builds.
How should you tune performance?
- Start at 60 FPS, native display resolution, and 1x render scale.
- Watch the in-game FPS display while playing the areas where performance matters to you.
- If performance falls short, lower render scale first. Change one graphics setting at a time so you can tell which adjustment helped.
- Only try 2x or 3x render scale if your system continues to run smoothly at the setting you want.
The project has not established universal minimum or recommended PC specifications or a performance matrix across graphics cards, drivers, and scenes. Results depend on your system and build; use the Steam Deck example only as a reference for the specific conditions reported.

How do you set up and change controls?
To use a keyboard and mouse, enable Play with keyboard & mouse in the launcher’s Settings tab. The project’s documented default keyboard and mouse bindings are:
| Action | Default |
|---|---|
| Move | W, A, S, D |
| Look around | Mouse |
| Jump / confirm | Space / Enter |
| Attack | Left click |
| Special attack (hold) / back | Right click / Backspace |
| Talk, use, pick up | E |
| Target (hold) | Shift |
| Walk (hold) | Ctrl |
| Switch character | 1–4 or arrow keys |
| To-do list | Tab |
| Pause | Esc |
Rebind inputs in the launcher’s Keyboard & mouse section; the project says an action can be assigned multiple keys or mouse buttons. If an in-game prompt shows controller buttons, press F1 to see keyboard equivalents. Controller input is supported too, so use a controller if you prefer that style of play; it is not a performance upgrade.

Where are settings and saves stored?
Settings are saved in simpsons.toml next to the executable. The launcher manages a block of that file, so make ordinary settings changes through the launcher rather than editing its managed block by hand.
- Windows saves and shader cache:
%LOCALAPPDATA%simpsons - Linux saves and shader cache:
~/.local/share/simpsons
Using PCSX2 instead?
If you are playing the PlayStation 2 version through PCSX2, use the current PCSX2 documentation and game compatibility page for emulator-specific issues and workarounds. The recomp’s FPS, render-scale, and control recommendations should not be treated as PCSX2 settings; an optimal PCSX2 configuration has not been established for a specified host system.
