For an RTX 4090 build, choose a case only after checking your exact graphics-card model’s length, width, thickness, and power-cable clearance against the case’s layout. The Founders Edition measures 304 × 137 mm and occupies three slots, but partner cards vary. Two spacious options by published GPU-length limit are the Fractal Design Meshify 2 (up to 470 mm) and LIAN LI Vector V100 (up to 420 mm); neither figure alone guarantees a fit.
What to check before choosing an RTX 4090 case
Start with the exact card dimensions
NVIDIA specifies its Founders Edition/reference RTX 4090 at 304 mm long, 137 mm wide, and 61 mm thick (three slots). These are reference dimensions, not universal RTX 4090 dimensions: add-in-card models vary. Check the dimensions published by the maker of the exact GPU you plan to buy. NVIDIA’s RTX 4090 specifications and installation guidance also call for 36 mm of additional space for the power cable.
Check all clearances, not just length
- Length: Compare the card length with the case’s maximum GPU length for your intended configuration. Front fans or a radiator can reduce usable space; check the case maker’s layout notes.
- Width and cable bend: Confirm there is room between the card’s power connector and the side panel, including NVIDIA’s 36 mm additional cable clearance.
- Thickness and neighboring slots: A three-slot reference card needs room for its physical thickness, and a thicker partner model may occupy more space. NVIDIA says clearance around the graphics card equivalent to an unused expansion slot will typically improve airflow.
- Build layout: Check motherboard format, PSU dimensions, storage placement, and fan or radiator positions against the case specifications.
Two cases with substantial published GPU-length limits
The figures below are manufacturer specifications, not a guarantee that every RTX 4090 model fits. They do not establish card-width, thickness, or power-connector clearance.
| Case | Published maximum GPU length | Relevant features and checks |
|---|---|---|
| Fractal Design Meshify 2 | Up to 470 mm | Fractal lists three included fans, up to nine fan positions, and a mesh front with a removable filter. Confirm the exact GPU and account for the selected fan or radiator configuration. Fractal Design Meshify 2 specifications. |
| LIAN LI Vector V100 | Up to 420 mm | LIAN LI identifies it as a mid-tower with ATX, Micro-ATX, and Mini-ITX support. Check the exact card’s width, thickness, and cable space as well as the installed layout. LIAN LI Vector V100 specifications. |
How to verify fit for your specific build
- Find the exact GPU model on its manufacturer’s product page and note its length, width, thickness, and power-connector location.
- Open the case manufacturer’s specifications and configuration notes. Check maximum GPU length for the planned front-fan or radiator setup, plus motherboard, PSU, storage, and cooling support.
- Check the card-to-side-panel space at the power connector. For the Founders Edition/reference card, NVIDIA says to plan 36 mm of additional space for the cable; do not assume a partner card has the same connector position.
- Allow for card thickness and adjacent-slot space. NVIDIA recommends clearance equivalent to an unused expansion slot around the graphics card to typically improve airflow.
- Verify the power supply separately. NVIDIA lists 450 W total graphics power and 850 W required system power for its stated RTX 4090 configuration; required system power can vary with the rest of the build. Check NVIDIA’s RTX 4090 requirements.
Which case should you choose?
Consider the Meshify 2 if its published 470 mm GPU-length limit and fan layout suit your build; consider the Vector V100 if its 420 mm limit and supported motherboard formats match your parts. Make the decision only after checking the exact card’s other dimensions, cable clearance, and the case’s installed cooling layout. Published length limits do not establish a thermal ranking, and the available manufacturer specifications do not provide comparative RTX 4090 temperature tests.
