For an individual teacher, Remind Chat remains available as a free K–12 messaging option. For a districtwide system, compare ClassDojo and ParentSquare: ClassDojo describes a broad K–12 suite and says its platform is free for district partners, while ParentSquare focuses on unified school communication and family engagement. Neither is a universal winner; verify fit, contract terms, integrations and rollout with the vendors.
Choose the platform by scope, not by feature count
Start by defining whether you need a teacher’s messaging channel, a classroom engagement app, or a system administered across a school or district. These are different buying decisions: district procurement adds requirements for permissions, recordkeeping, roster synchronization, support, security review, and implementation.
- Individual teacher: Look for straightforward two-way messaging and a way to reach families through their preferred channels.
- Classroom or school: Consider whether behavior or classroom tools, school announcements, translation, and staff oversight matter.
- District: Evaluate administration, integrations, family reach, urgent alerts, website needs, accessibility, privacy requirements, implementation work, and total cost across the contract.
Feature availability can depend on the plan, partner eligibility, and contract. Ask vendors to confirm the exact products and services included for your use case.
How the main options differ
| Platform | Best fit to investigate | What the vendor describes | Pricing or status to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| ClassDojo | Districts seeking family communication alongside classroom and behavior tools | Two-way family messaging, district announcements, translation, SIS rostering, oversight, classroom features, and a broader district suite | ClassDojo says district partners use the platform free; confirm eligibility and terms directly. |
| ParentSquare | Schools and districts seeking unified communication and family engagement | Classroom updates, cross-channel alerts, auto-translation, school websites, and AI assistance for staff | Comparable district contract pricing was not stated in the reviewed overview; request a quote. |
| Remind Chat | Individual K–12 teachers seeking messaging | Remind’s September 30, 2026 announcement says its free Chat offering will continue for individual K–12 teachers. | Remind says new K–12 school and district buyers seeking a solution will be directed to ParentSquare. Existing Hub access depends on rostering status; see the dated details below. |

ClassDojo says district partners receive the platform free and says it is used by teachers and families in 90% of U.S. schools. Those are company claims, not independent comparative findings; ask what partner eligibility and terms mean for your district.
How to interpret ClassDojo’s published outcome figures
ClassDojo’s current district page reports that 80% of families read messages the day they receive them, 89% of teachers say it improves family relationships, 8 in 10 teachers say it improves day-to-day work, 3 in 4 principals say positive behavior is easier to build, and 1 in 3 teachers see better attendance. The page does not state a year for these figures, and the underlying methodology and sample details were not established. Treat them as vendor-published claims, not head-to-head evidence that ClassDojo will outperform another platform in your community. ClassDojo for Districts

Remind in 2026: teacher messaging remains, district buying has shifted
In an announcement dated September 30, 2026, Remind said Remind Chat would continue as a free offering for individual K–12 teachers. The announcement also says new K–12 school or district buyers seeking a solution will be directed to ParentSquare. Existing Remind Hub customers with automated rostering can use Hub through September 2027; customers without automated rostering can continue with no change, according to the announcement. Because this is a dated product transition, confirm current availability and the status of any existing account directly with Remind. Remind: The next chapter for Remind
What to check before selecting a school or district platform
Family reach and urgent communication
Ask which channels are available—app, SMS, email, or voice—and how urgent alerts behave on each. Confirm how two-way replies work, whether families can set channel preferences, and what happens when a family cannot use the app. ClassDojo describes district announcements and SMS alerts, and its 2026 district page describes email, SMS, and voice announcements. ParentSquare says its alerts span channels. These descriptions do not establish that channel behavior or coverage is identical across products or plans.

Language access
Check which languages are supported, how translation quality is handled, whether families can choose a preferred language, and what fallback exists when a translation is unclear. ClassDojo advertises instant translation in 190+ languages; ParentSquare describes auto-translation. The advertised count is a vendor feature claim, not an independent quality audit. Have staff and families test representative communications in the languages your community uses.
Administration, message records, and privacy
For a district deployment, establish who can message whom, which administrators can review activity, and whether the product supports the recordkeeping and export your policies require. ClassDojo describes oversight, admin permissions, and message audit features, but confirm retention, export, and legal or security requirements with the vendor. Conduct your own privacy and accessibility review rather than treating a product overview as a procurement assessment.

Integrations, websites, and implementation workload
Ask vendors to document SIS rostering, synchronization frequency, single sign-on, attendance triggers, website needs, and any forms or payment workflows you expect to use. ClassDojo describes daily SIS syncing and attendance alerts. ParentSquare describes school websites and broader school communication, but the reviewed overview does not establish an exact integration list. Request a district-specific implementation plan covering data mapping, onboarding, training, migration, support, and staff workload.
Total cost and contract terms
Compare written proposals on the same basis: enrollment assumptions, included modules and channels, integration fees, onboarding, support, contract length, renewal terms, and any add-ons. ClassDojo says its product is free for district partners, but eligibility and terms need confirmation. The reviewed ParentSquare overview does not state comparable district pricing. A 2025–26 practice brief lists TalkingPoints among school-family communication examples and characterizes it as free for individual users but not for school or district implementation; that is older category-level context, not current pricing. Confirm current product scope and contract terms before including TalkingPoints in a procurement comparison. School Community Journal / ERIC practice brief, 2025–26
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A practical way to make the decision
- Write down the audience. Decide whether the buyer is an individual teacher, a school, or the district, and whether classroom or behavior tools are in scope.
- Set must-haves. Specify channels, translation needs, urgent-alert coverage, language preferences, message access and retention, permissions, integrations, website requirements, accessibility, and privacy review.
- Request comparable proposals. Ask each vendor for the same enrollment assumptions, included features, integrations, support, implementation work, renewal terms, and total cost.
- Test the family experience. Include staff and families in a pilot or demonstration using representative languages, devices, and communication scenarios. Check usability and reach rather than relying on vendor outcome figures alone.
- Confirm the rollout and exit details. Before signing, clarify onboarding responsibilities, data migration, support response, record export, and what happens to access and data when the contract ends.
What the available evidence can—and cannot—decide
The reviewed vendor materials describe different scopes and features, but they do not establish a comparable independent 2026 head-to-head winner or like-for-like district pricing for ParentSquare and other candidates. ClassDojo’s outcome figures are vendor-published, and ParentSquare’s awards and hosted customer testimonial are not independent comparative tests. Use product claims to build a shortlist, then decide with demonstrations, district-specific quotes, and your own requirements.
