For Overwatch on PC, start by matching the game’s resolution to your monitor’s native resolution, setting the frame-rate cap to suit the monitor’s maximum refresh rate, and choosing the responsiveness option Blizzard recommends for your GPU: NVIDIA Reflex + Boost for NVIDIA cards, or Reduced Buffering for other GPUs. Blizzard also recommends High Precision Mouse Input. These are official starting points, not a universal preset or a promise of a specific FPS or latency gain.
Start with these PC settings
Blizzard’s developer guidance recommends the following baseline for responsiveness. Menu labels and availability can change with game updates, so check the current in-game options.
| Setting | Starting point | How to apply it |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution | Match your monitor’s actual resolution. | Check the display’s configured resolution, then select the same resolution in Overwatch. Blizzard says, “Make sure the in-game resolution setting matches your actual monitor’s set resolution.” |
| Frame-rate cap | Set the cap to match your monitor’s maximum frame rate. | Use the display’s maximum refresh rate as the reference, then consider whether your PC can maintain the chosen cap. Blizzard does not specify one numeric cap for every system. |
| GPU responsiveness option | NVIDIA graphics card: NVIDIA Reflex + Boost. Other GPUs: Reduced Buffering. | Choose the option appropriate to your GPU. Blizzard’s recommendation is not a measured comparison of gains on every PC. |
| Mouse input | Enable High Precision Mouse Input. | Find it in gameplay options and turn it on, as Blizzard recommends for PC mouse responsiveness. |
These recommendations come from Blizzard’s developer guidance on responsiveness. The post does not publish FPS uplift or latency-reduction figures, so treat the settings as a sensible baseline rather than guaranteed improvements.
Match resolution and frame cap to your display
Keep the intended display resolution
Using your monitor’s actual resolution is the clearest first check before changing graphics options. Lowering resolution may help performance in some situations, but it trades away image detail; the cited Blizzard guidance does not quantify that tradeoff or establish a universally best lower resolution.

Use refresh rate as the cap reference
Blizzard recommends matching the capped frame rate to the monitor’s maximum frame rate. The right numeric cap depends on the display and on what the PC can sustain; the official guidance does not prescribe a single value for all players. If your current monitor’s maximum refresh rate limits the cap you can reasonably use, a higher-refresh-rate display is relevant only if that limitation matters to you. Blizzard does not endorse a particular monitor or threshold.
Choose Reflex or Reduced Buffering by GPU
For an NVIDIA graphics card, Blizzard recommends NVIDIA Reflex + Boost. For other GPUs, it recommends Reduced Buffering. These are alternative recommendations based on GPU vendor, not two settings Blizzard instructs every player to enable together. The official post provides no controlled benchmark or quantified advantage for either choice, so use the matching option as your starting point rather than assuming it will improve every system by a fixed amount.

DirectX 11 or DirectX 12?
Do not switch to DirectX 12 on the assumption that it is always faster or smoother. Blizzard introduced DX12 as a beta feature and warned that some systems could perform worse than with DX11 or experience stuttering. Its February 4, 2025 patch notes still described DX12 as beta and repeated those cautions. DX11 is the conservative choice if DX12 causes instability or stutter; try DX12 only if it is available for your system and compare its behavior on your own setup.
At the time of Blizzard’s original announcement, DX12 required a compatible GPU supporting DirectX Feature Level 12_2 and Windows 10 version 1909 or higher. Those were the requirements reported then, not a guarantee that they are the complete current requirements. Check the game’s current notes and your system compatibility before changing APIs. Blizzard’s DirectX 12 announcement explains the beta caveats, while its February 4, 2025 patch notes also report a fix for a DLSS settings issue that had caused rendering problems. That history is a reason to check current game notes and drivers if rendering behaves unexpectedly, not to assume DLSS is always problem-free.

Adjust render scale only with the clarity tradeoff in mind
Blizzard introduced Dynamic Render Scale on PC in June 2022 as a way to improve performance when the GPU is the limit. Its announcement described a configurable minimum scale that could be lowered for performance and a maximum scale that could be raised for visual fidelity. This describes the performance-versus-image-quality tradeoff; it does not establish current menu wording, ideal values, or that dynamic scaling is best for every player. Check the current in-game options and adjust only if performance is unstable, then judge whether the resulting image remains clear enough for you.
Keep the monitor-matched resolution as your baseline. Lowering render scale can reduce image detail, so do not assume it preserves sharpness. The cited sources do not provide a comprehensive current graphics preset or a quantified low-versus-high settings comparison. See Blizzard’s June 2022 Dynamic Render Scale announcement for the original description.

Player settings and Blizzard’s visual-clarity changes are different
Not every improvement to visual clarity is a setting players can change. Blizzard’s September 2026 patch notes, for example, describe reducing the visual effects enemies see from Anran’s Dancing Blaze and reducing repeated impact sound effects to lessen audio clutter. Those are game-level changes, not graphics-menu toggles. The notes are a current example of Blizzard adjusting effects for clarity, rather than a recommended player preset. See the September 2026 patch notes.

- Confirm the resolution configured for your monitor and set Overwatch to the same resolution.
- Set the frame-rate cap with the monitor’s maximum refresh rate in mind, while accounting for what your PC can sustain.
- Select NVIDIA Reflex + Boost for an NVIDIA GPU, or Reduced Buffering for another GPU.
- Enable High Precision Mouse Input in gameplay options.
- Keep DX11 if DX12 produces stutter or worse performance; treat DX12 as a system-dependent option rather than a guaranteed upgrade.
- If performance remains unstable, evaluate render-scale changes in-game and check whether the image detail is still acceptable.
Blizzard has not published a single best preset or performance figures for these choices in the cited guidance. Your useful result is a stable setup that preserves the intended resolution and responds well on your own PC.
