Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is aimed more at players seeking an online-focused world. Forza Horizon 6 is listed for PS5, but PlayStation currently gives no release date.
Best PS5 open-world racers while you wait
| Game | Best fit | Setting and listed features | Online access |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Crew Motorfest | Festival activities and varied scenery | Hawaii, including Honolulu streets, rainforest trails, mountain roads, and volcanic slopes; themed activities and a large vehicle collection | Online play is required; PlayStation Plus is required for online multiplayer |
| Forza Horizon 5 | The closest match to Horizon 6 | Open-world Mexico, with jungles, deserts, beaches, changing weather, a campaign, and hundreds of cars | PlayStation lists online play as optional |
| Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown | Online cruising and multiplayer activity | Described by the PlayStation Store as an open-world massively multiplayer racing game | Check current platform requirements before buying; the listing does not establish current server quality |
The Crew Motorfest: best for a festival-style alternative
Motorfest is the strongest pick if what you want is a big driving festival with different kinds of roads and scenery. PlayStation describes its setting as a Hawaiian archipelago spanning city streets, rainforest, mountains, and volcanic terrain, alongside themed activities and solo or crew play. The product page puts it this way: “Explore the breathtaking Hawaiian archipelago, transformed into a premiere racing destination.”

PlayStation’s product page advertises more than 700 vehicle models. That is a vendor feature claim, not an independently audited count. The game is listed for PS4 and PS5. Its online-play requirement matters: the listing says online play is required and PlayStation Plus is required for online multiplayer. Check the current local subscription catalog if you are considering access through a membership; catalog availability can change by region and over time.
Forza Horizon 5: the closest match in the series
If your priority is the Horizon formula rather than simply open-world driving, Forza Horizon 5 is the direct choice: it is another entry in the same series and has a PS5 listing. PlayStation describes an open-world Mexico with jungles, deserts, beaches, changing weather, a campaign, and hundreds of cars. Its listing says online play is optional, making it the clearest fit here if you want the option to play without online access.

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown: for an online-focused world
Solar Crown is worth considering if you are specifically looking for an open-world multiplayer racer. The PlayStation Store describes it as a massively multiplayer racing game and lists a PS5 version. That positioning makes it a more specialized choice than a default recommendation for someone seeking a broad festival campaign. The available product listing does not establish the game’s current server quality or service status, so check current platform requirements and recent service information before purchasing.
What about Need for Speed Unbound?
PlayStation includes Need for Speed Unbound among its featured PS4 and PS5 racing games, so it is another street-racing option to look into. The available product information here does not establish enough about its open-world features to rank it alongside the three games above. Check its current PS5 listing and feature details if you are considering it specifically for open-world driving.
