For a YouTube cartoon loop in OBS, start with CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and a bitrate matched to your codec, resolution, and frame rate. A practical starting point is 720p30 or 1080p30: YouTube’s current recommended video bitrates are 6 or 10 Mbps for AV1/H.265, and 8 or 14 Mbps for H.264, respectively. Add the cartoon as a looping Media Source, test it with motion and audio, and monitor OBS and YouTube stream health. These settings do not guarantee an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast; your computer, network, content rights, and YouTube channel eligibility still matter.
Recommended OBS settings for YouTube Live
The figures below are YouTube’s current recommended bitrates for live ingest, accessed in 2026. They are platform recommendations, not guarantees that your computer or internet connection can sustain the stream. Use the column for the codec you actually select in OBS and that your ingest path supports. YouTube’s guidance applies to YouTube Live; use another platform’s own encoder recommendations if you stream elsewhere. YouTube Live encoder settings

Choosing resolution, frame rate, and codec
- 720p30: A lower-bitrate starting option for a straightforward cartoon loop. Check the source’s line detail and motion on the actual stream before settling on it.
- 1080p30: Consider this when the source has fine detail that benefits from the higher resolution and your encoder and upload link can sustain its matching bitrate.
- 30 or 60 fps: Match the program cadence where practical. For animation originating at 24 or 30 fps, matching its cadence is a sensible starting choice, not a YouTube rule; the platform supports up to 60 fps.
- H.264, H.265, or AV1: YouTube lists all three. The encoder and ingest path you choose must support the codec. These bitrate recommendations differ, so do not apply the H.264 number to an AV1 or H.265 stream.
Rate control, keyframes, and audio
For YouTube RTMP/RTMPS streaming, use constant bitrate (CBR) and set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds; YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds. Its advanced guidance lists stereo AAC or MP3 audio at 128 Kbps and 44.1 kHz. Keep the audio track intentional: confirm that it is present, at a suitable level, and continues across the loop. YouTube’s advanced settings also list square pixels, progressive scan, two B-frames, one reference frame, CABAC, Rec. 709 for SDR, and 8-bit for SDR. Set up a cartoon loop in OBS
Loop one video file
- In OBS, select the scene that should carry the broadcast.
- In the Sources panel, click + and choose Media Source. Create a new source or select an existing one.
- Enable Local File, browse to the cartoon video, and confirm the file selection.
- Enable Loop. The file should start again when it reaches the end.
- Preview the scene and check the picture, audio, and the transition at the end of the file. OBS documents support for MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM video files. OBS media sources
Restart playback when source becomes active is for restarting a source when it becomes visible or active, such as after a scene change. It is not necessary merely to loop a continuously visible source.
Loop a playlist of files
For an ordered or shuffled collection, add a VLC Video source, select the playlist entries, then configure Loop Playlist and, if wanted, shuffle. VLC must be installed. With 64-bit OBS, OBS requires the matching 64-bit VLC installation. OBS media sources

Configure YouTube and test before relying on the stream
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube says the channel must be verified, have no live-stream restrictions in the prior 90 days, and the creator must be at least 16. These requirements can prevent a broadcast regardless of OBS settings. YouTube live-streaming getting started
- Connect OBS to the correct YouTube event. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the intended stream and use its stream key in OBS’s stream settings. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Run a representative test. Include both motion and audio like the intended program. Check that the source loops cleanly, audio does not stop or jump unexpectedly, and the stream appears correctly in YouTube’s preview.
- Monitor the actual broadcast. Watch OBS’s dropped-frame count and connection indicator, as well as YouTube’s stream-health feedback. A speed test alone cannot establish that a long live stream will remain stable. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement and monitoring stream health. If OBS reports dropped frames
OBS notes that rising dropped frames or a yellow/red connection indicator signal an unstable connection or one that may not sustain the chosen bitrate. Reduce the bitrate or address the network problem, then test again. A lower-resolution or lower-frame-rate output may also reduce the required video bitrate; select the matching value from YouTube’s table rather than guessing. OBS stream connection troubleshooting

YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” A 24/7 broadcast is therefore not a reliable way to create one complete YouTube archive. If you need a copy, configure OBS recording to a local path and size storage for the chosen recording bitrate and retention period. YouTube recommends a local archive backup. A local recording is not failure-proof: power, disk, computer, or software problems can interrupt it. No universal storage capacity can be specified without knowing the recording format, bitrate, and how long you need to retain files. OBS exposes recording paths and encoder options in its settings. Kids’ content, audience settings, and rights
If the stream is designated Made for Kids, YouTube disables live chat, live chat replay, and Super Chat. Personalized ads are disabled, though contextual ads may still appear. Looping a file does not establish that you have permission to broadcast it. Confirm that you hold the necessary rights or have authorization for the cartoon, music, and other included material. The OBS and YouTube encoder settings do not determine copyright status or whether a channel complies with YouTube’s policies.
