There is no single NVIDIA Control Panel preset that guarantees smooth gameplay on every PC. Start with the default profile, then adjust the settings that match your issue—input delay, screen tearing, or inconsistent GPU behavior—under Program Settings for the affected game. The right choice depends on the game, GPU, driver, and display.
How to apply settings to one game
Global settings affect games and other applications broadly. If a change helps one title but may cause unwanted behavior elsewhere, use its program-specific profile instead. NVIDIA says a program’s settings are applied automatically when that program launches.
- Open NVIDIA Control Panel and select Manage 3D settings.
- Choose the Program Settings tab, then select the game. If it is not listed, use the option to add it.
- Choose a setting and its value, then click Apply.
For the global profile, use the Global Settings tab. NVIDIA’s instructions are to select a setting, choose its value, and click Apply. Labels or available choices can vary with the installed driver and hardware. See NVIDIA’s Manage 3D Settings and default-setting instructions.
Which settings should you change?
Use the symptom to choose what to test. These controls address different tradeoffs; none is a general-purpose fix for every stutter or performance problem.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Setting | What it changes | When to consider it |
|---|---|---|
| Low Latency Mode | How many frames the CPU can prepare before GPU processing | When you are targeting input latency |
| Vertical Sync | Whether the game’s frame rate is synchronized with the display refresh rate | When deciding between tearing and synchronization behavior |
| Power management mode | GPU performance and power behavior | When a workload calls for a particular performance state |
| G-SYNC | Variable-refresh behavior on a supported display | Only when the display and setup support it |
Low Latency Mode: choose latency or throughput
NVIDIA describes Low Latency Mode as reducing latency by limiting how many frames the CPU can prepare before the GPU processes them. Its options represent a tradeoff, not a promise of higher frame rates.
- Off: allows the game to queue frames, prioritizing throughput.
- On: limits the queued frames to one.
- Ultra: minimizes the queued frames.
If your goal is more responsive input, try the setting in that game’s Program Settings profile and compare how it feels. A shorter render queue is not established as a fix for every kind of stutter. NVIDIA’s Manage 3D Settings reference explains the control; it does not provide a universal recommendation for current games.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Power management mode: avoid a universal maximum-performance rule
NVIDIA lists driver-controlled behavior, Adaptive, Prefer maximum performance, and Prefer consistent performance. Adaptive is a power-saving option; Prefer consistent performance is intended to maintain a consistent performance state and is often used for reproducible development and tuning. Prefer maximum performance changes the GPU’s performance behavior, but it is not automatically the best choice for every game or system.
Choose based on the workload and your priorities rather than applying maximum performance globally by default. The available options and their behavior may vary by driver and hardware; consult the NVIDIA setting reference.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Vertical Sync: decide whether tearing is acceptable
Vertical Sync synchronizes an application’s frame rate with the display refresh rate to eliminate tearing. NVIDIA describes Off as useful when performance matters more than image quality and On as useful for eliminating tearing. The choice is about display behavior, not a guaranteed cure for uneven gameplay.
Adaptive options may appear only with certain monitor technology choices. Check the options shown in your Control Panel rather than assuming every system exposes the same modes. NVIDIA documents the choices in its Manage 3D Settings reference.

G-SYNC: use it only with a supported display
G-SYNC is an option for a G-SYNC-capable or G-SYNC Compatible display configured as the primary display. NVIDIA’s setup instructions require enabling G-SYNC in the display settings and choosing G-SYNC/G-SYNC Compatible as the monitor technology. The display mode choices and compatibility depend on the hardware and connection.
- In NVIDIA Control Panel, open Set up G-SYNC and enable G-SYNC/G-SYNC Compatible.
- Select the applicable display mode offered by your system.
- Open Manage 3D settings and confirm Monitor Technology is set to G-SYNC/G-SYNC Compatible.
Use a compatible display as the primary display and verify that the option is available for your setup. NVIDIA’s guides cover NVIDIA G-SYNC and setting it up; they do not establish that every variable-refresh display is validated or supported.

How to decide what to test
- If input feels delayed, test Low Latency Mode for that game.
- If visible tearing is your main complaint, consider Vertical Sync or supported G-SYNC configuration.
- If you are considering a power-management change, weigh performance behavior against power use and apply it only where it is relevant.
- If a setting makes another game behave worse, return it to its previous value or change it in that game’s profile instead of changing the global setting.
NVIDIA reported up to 20% lower end-to-end system latency in 2019 for a described configuration using V-Sync On, Ultra Low Latency Mode, and G-SYNC. That is a vendor-reported result for that configuration, not an independent benchmark or a general promise of smoother gameplay. See NVIDIA GeForce News.
