There is no universal “best” configuration or general accessibility preset for Nintendo Switch Sports. Start with compatible Joy-Con controllers and TV Mode, choose the controller setup supported by your sport, then adjust the few documented options that fit your needs. If motion input seems inaccurate, calibrate it in the console’s system settings; that process is separate from the game’s options.
Start with the right controller setup
Nintendo Switch Sports does not support Handheld Mode, and Nintendo recommends TV Mode for the best play experience. The Joy-Con configuration varies by sport, so follow the game’s on-screen controller instructions for the sport you select. Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers are not compatible with this game.
Because the required setup can differ by sport, check the controller instructions before troubleshooting a motion gesture. A controller arrangement that works for one sport may not be the one another sport calls for.
Which settings can you change?
Golf Shot Assist
Golf has a documented assist intended to make the sport easier for beginners. To enable it, open Options → User Settings → Other and select Shot Assist. Nintendo’s July 9, 2024 update notes say the setting applies in Play Locally and Play with Friends. In Play Globally, it reverts to Normal.

System-level button mapping and vibration
The Nintendo Switch system includes button-mapping and controller-vibration settings under System Settings → Controllers and Sensors. These are console-level controls, not a general Nintendo Switch Sports accessibility preset. Nintendo’s available documentation does not establish that button mapping can replace the game’s motion gestures, so do not assume that remapping makes every sport playable without motion input.
Can you play without motion controls?
Nintendo’s documented setup for this game requires supported Joy-Con controllers, but the available official information does not document a general motion-free mode. That does not establish that every sport action is exclusively motion-operated; it means there is no verified setting here to turn off motion across the game or substitute buttons for all gestures.

If you need to avoid a particular movement, check that sport’s on-screen controls and documented options rather than assuming a system setting will change the game’s input. Golf Shot Assist is the clearly documented game-level aid, and it is limited to Golf and the modes described above.
How to calibrate motion controls
If your character is not performing the expected action when you move a Joy-Con, calibrate motion controls through the console rather than looking for a calibration option inside the game. Nintendo’s instructions cover Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, and OLED systems.

- Check for the latest system update, as Nintendo’s calibration instructions call for updating the console.
- Remove straps and other accessories from the controller before calibration.
- On the console, open System Settings → Controllers and Sensors → Calibrate Motion Controls.
- When prompted, hold the controller’s + or − button as directed on screen.
- Place the controller on a flat, stable surface with its stick facing upward, and follow the on-screen instructions.
If the problem continues, note whether it occurs in one sport or across several. A problem isolated to Soccer Leg-Strap Mode calls for checking the strap and controller compatibility; repeated connection-unstable warnings may point to wireless interference, for which Nintendo provides separate troubleshooting guidance. A warning alone is not proof that the controller is faulty.
Soccer Leg-Strap Mode: menus and compatibility
Leg-Strap Mode is an optional Soccer input method, not a general accessibility accommodation. The menu path depends on how you are playing:

- Play Globally: Highlight Soccer and press X.
- Play Locally or Play with Friends: Press + on the Joy-Con instruction screen.
If the mode does not respond as expected, check that the strap is attached properly. Nintendo states that Joy-Con 2 controllers are not compatible with the Leg Strap.
