OBS Studio is the best fit for a presenter who wants free desktop software and detailed control over a product-demo scene. If you would rather work in a browser, invite guests, and use integrated distribution tools, compare StreamYard and Restream. There is no evidence here that one option produces better demos in practice; the right choice depends on how you want to build and distribute the show.

Choose software for the way you will present

A strong product demo is mainly a screen-and-narration production job: viewers need to see the product clearly, hear you easily, and follow smooth switches between the product, slides, and presenter. Compare tools on setup, screen sharing, scene control, distribution, and recording—not on an assumed universal winner.

Software Setup model Best suited to Notable workflow
OBS Studio Desktop encoder with configurable scenes Presenters who want granular control and are comfortable configuring a production setup Combine sources such as a product window, browser, webcam, images, or capture card into scenes. OBS Project
StreamYard Browser-based studio Presenters who prioritize a hosted studio, screen sharing, guest handling, and branding Its vendor describes a tech-demo workflow and a hybrid approach pairing OBS visuals with StreamYard guest and distribution features. StreamYard’s tech-demo guidance
Restream Browser studio or encoder-connected distribution service Presenters who want to manage multiple destinations or let a guest share their screen Restream explicitly includes product launches and demos among suitable content, and documents connecting OBS. Restream’s product-demo overview

OBS Studio: best for scene control without a software subscription

OBS Studio is free and open source, and runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux. It mixes audio and video in real time and lets you build scenes from sources including window captures, browser windows, webcams, images, and capture cards. That flexibility makes it a strong fit when you want to control exactly what appears as you move from a product walkthrough to a slide or presenter view. See OBS Studio’s official overview.

Choose OBS when you are willing to configure and rehearse a desktop workflow. Vendor documentation supports its scene-building capabilities, but does not establish that it is easier to learn or more reliable than browser studios.

StreamYard: a browser studio for screen sharing and guests

StreamYard’s official tech-demo article describes a browser studio centered on quick setup, screen sharing, camera, and branding. It also outlines a hybrid workflow: use OBS for custom visuals, then StreamYard for guests, multistreaming, and recording. This can suit a presenter who wants some desktop scene control without giving up hosted guest workflows. The guidance is vendor-authored, not an independent comparison. Read StreamYard’s tech-demo guidance.

Its pricing page shows differences across plans in branding, resolution, destinations, and recording. The displayed Free plan has limits, branding, one seat, limited storage, and two hours per month of local recordings. The displayed Core plan includes Full HD, multistreaming to three destinations, and recording features; Advanced adds 4K local recordings and up to eight destinations. Prices and offers can vary with promotions, renewal terms, and custom offers, so check the live page for current terms before choosing. StreamYard pricing.

Restream: browser studio, guests, or OBS-connected distribution

Restream explicitly identifies “Product launches and demos” as a suitable live-video use case. Its product overview describes a browser Studio, multistreaming from an encoder such as OBS, unified chat, webinars, and scheduling recorded video as live. A guest can share a browser tab, window, or full screen; the host chooses whether to show that share. Restream product launches and demos · Guest screen sharing.

If you already build the show in OBS, Restream documents connecting the encoder either by linking an account or pasting an RTMP stream key. From there, you can manage enabled channels and monitor stream status. Follow the current setup guide and the destination platform’s requirements rather than assuming one set of encoder settings works everywhere. Restream’s OBS setup guide.

Restream’s free and paid tiers differ in simultaneous channel limits and other features; the pricing page and help information say channel count and feature needs affect plan choice. Set up the demo before you go live

Plan the show flow

  1. Write down the sequence: opening, product overview, key actions, audience questions, and close. Decide when viewers should see the product, your camera, or a slide.
  2. Prepare a scene or layout for each distinct view. In OBS, use scenes and sources; in a browser studio, configure the relevant screen-share, camera, and guest layout controls.
  3. Rehearse the switches while narrating. Confirm that the product window, cursor, and any on-screen text remain legible in the live layout.
  4. Test the microphone and listen for echo. If a guest is involved, test their screen share and confirm that you can choose when it appears on the show.
  5. Check the destination and subscription limits for resolution, simultaneous destinations, recording, and guest or team features before relying on them.

Use equipment you can support reliably

Restream’s equipment guide says a built-in camera and microphone are reasonable starting points. It recommends matching camera quality to the target resolution, using a wired connection for stability, and using headphones to reduce echo; it also recommends good lighting. These are vendor recommendations, not guarantees of a successful stream. Restream’s equipment guide.

The same guide gives 10 Mbps as minimum bandwidth and recommends 25 Mbps or more, especially for Full HD. Treat those as its recommendations rather than universal encoder requirements: actual needs vary with stream settings and network conditions. For spoken audio, a built-in microphone can be enough to start; consider an external USB microphone only if an upgrade fits your setup.

Check rights and platform rules

Use product footage, music, images, and other material you have the right to show. Check the destination platform’s current live-stream rules and your software plan’s recording and distribution limits. The cited product pages describe features, not a blanket permission to use third-party content or a guarantee that a stream complies with every platform policy.

How to decide

  • Choose OBS Studio if you want a free desktop encoder and the flexibility to construct scenes from multiple sources.
  • Choose StreamYard if a browser studio, screen sharing, guest workflow, and built-in branding or recording matter more than configuring every scene at desktop-encoder level.
  • Choose Restream if you want its browser Studio or want to connect OBS to a service that manages enabled destinations; check the plan’s channel limits and features.
  • Combine tools if your workflow calls for OBS visuals plus a hosted service’s guest, distribution, or recording features. Confirm the required plan features before the event.

There is no sourced apples-to-apples comparison of reliability, learning time, video quality, audience response, or conversion performance. These recommendations are based on the documented workflows, not comparative test results.

Keep a YouTube demo running after the event

If your goal changes from presenting live to keeping an uploaded recording looping as a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo is the relevant cloud option: it keeps an always-on stream running from uploaded videos, at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and the first day is free. It is for uploaded video playback, not a live camera production.

For an actual live product presentation, use OBS, StreamYard, or Restream as described above. StreamNeo is a separate workflow for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded recordings: upload a video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay running on your computer at home; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. Every slot includes 10 GB storage, pooled across active slots, plus looping, playlists, and support. Learn about StreamNeo.
