For most new players, the best first purchase is KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX. Start with KINGDOM HEARTS FINAL MIX, the first adventure in the collection. If you want the broader saga in one package and can wait, KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] is scheduled to release on October 8, 2026; as of October 7, it is not yet available.
Which Kingdom Hearts collection should a new player buy?
The choice mainly depends on how much of the saga you want to buy now and which hardware you own.

| KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX | Six story experiences: KINGDOM HEARTS FINAL MIX, Re:Chain of Memories, KINGDOM HEARTS II FINAL MIX, 358/2 Days (HD cutscene compilation), Birth by Sleep FINAL MIX, and Re:coded (HD cutscene compilation). | Most first-time players, especially those who want to begin with the first adventure without buying the entire saga at once. | Two of the six experiences are cutscene compilations, not playable remasters. Available on Nintendo Switch as well as other listed platforms; check the store for your platform and region. |
| KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] | 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and III + Re Mind. | Players who already want a broad package spanning the earlier collection through the third numbered game and its DLC. | Scheduled for October 8, 2026, on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Microsoft Store on Windows. Physical copies require an internet connection to download additional data. |
Square Enix and PlayStation present 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX as an entry point for people new to the series. The publisher describes the larger collection as beginning with that package and culminating in III + Re Mind. This guide follows that collection sequence rather than claiming there is one universally best chronology for every side story.
What you get in each package
KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX
The collection brings together the first game, several follow-ups, and two story installments presented as movies. 358/2 Days and Re:coded are HD cutscene compilations, so do not expect to play them as full remasters. The other listed entries are games.

KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue

KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind
This package pairs the third numbered game with Re Mind. Square Enix describes the DLC as an additional chapter unfolding during the climax of III.

The all-in-one collection is listed for Nintendo Switch 2, not the original Switch. The separate 1.5+2.5 ReMIX has a native original Nintendo Switch release, and Nintendo also lists a Switch 2 version. Nintendo says Switch 2 software is not compatible with original Switch hardware.
Nintendo’s Switch 2 listing estimates the 1.5+2.5 ReMIX download at 54.2 GB. Save data can transfer from the Switch version to Switch 2, but not in reverse. File size and preorder details may change, so confirm the listing for your region before downloading or buying.

Physical, digital, and regional checks
Square Enix’s official listing provides physical and digital options for Collection [I~III]. Its physical version requires an internet connection to download additional data, so a disc or card purchase should not be treated as a fully offline installation.
There is no single reliable price to quote across platforms and regions: store, edition, format, and promotions affect what you will pay. Square Enix says eligible owners of certain prior digital editions may receive a discount, but eligibility depends on the platform and title. Check your own regional store for current price, availability, and discount terms before choosing.
What the sales milestone does—and does not—tell you
Square Enix Holdings reported more than 38 million units in global package shipments and digital sales across the Kingdom Hearts series in 2025. That is a publisher-reported, series-wide milestone; it does not show how well any one game sold or establish an individual game’s quality.
