The best alternative depends on whether you need a party box or a more weather-resistant portable speaker. Choose the JBL PartyBox Club 120 for more listed output, party lighting, and dual microphone and guitar inputs; consider the JBL Xtreme 4 for strap carry and an IP67 rating, or the JBL Boombox 4 if IP68 water and dust resistance is your priority. These models serve different needs, and the available specifications do not establish a same-method loudness or sound-quality winner.

At a glance: which alternative fits your outdoor party?

Model Best reason to consider it Key tradeoff
JBL PartyBox Club 120 JBL lists 160 W RMS, party lighting, dual mic and guitar inputs, up to 12 hours of playback, and a separately sold spare replaceable battery. At 11.05 kg, it is heavier than the Encore Essential 2’s 6.2 kg; its IPX4 rating is for splash protection, not immersion.
JBL Xtreme 4 JBL lists IP67 protection, a shoulder strap, and up to 24 hours of playtime. It is a portable-speaker alternative rather than a like-for-like party box; output varies between AC and battery modes.
JBL Boombox 4 JBL lists IP68 water and dust resistance and separate AC and battery output ratings. The cited official material does not establish its weight, runtime, or comparative listening performance.

These figures are manufacturer specifications, not independent comparative test results. Wattage alone does not show how loud one speaker will sound relative to another.

What the Encore Essential 2 offers as a baseline

JBL lists the PartyBox Encore Essential 2 at 100 W RMS, 6.2 kg, and 34 Wh, with Bluetooth 5.4, a 3.5 mm aux input, and mic and guitar inputs. Its published frequency response is 40 Hz–20 kHz (-6 dB), and its listed drivers are one 5.25-inch woofer and two 0.75-inch dome tweeters. JBL also describes party lighting and an IPX4 splash-proof design. These are specifications and claims from JBL’s current product listing, not independent measurements. The listing does not establish a dependable playtime figure, so there is no reliable runtime comparison to make for this model.

Choose the Club 120 for party features and inputs

The PartyBox Club 120 is the clearest alternative if your outdoor event needs a light show or live microphone and guitar connections. JBL lists 160 W RMS, dual mic and guitar inputs, IPX4 splash protection, and up to 12 hours of playback. Its spec sheet lists a weight of 11.05 kg; JBL says a spare replaceable battery is sold separately. The 12-hour figure is a manufacturer maximum that varies with volume and audio content, not a guarantee at party volume.

#1 Best Overall

  • POWERFUL JBL ORIGINAL PRO SOUND: Whether you're at home or outdoors, the JBL PartyBox 110 makes your music amazing with two levels of deep, adjustable bass and 160W powerful JBL Signature Sound.
  • 12 HOURS OF PLAYTIME AND PORTABLE DESIGN: Power the party all day or all night. With 12 hours of playtime and a built-in rechargeable battery, the beat will go on (and on)
  • IPX4 SPLASHPROOF: Whether your guests are dancing on the beach or sipping drinks by the pool, the JBL PartyBox 110 is IPX4 splashproof so you never have to worry about the party getting too wet and wild.
  • PARTYBOX APP: The JBL PartyBox app makes it easier than ever to control your music, update settings, and customize the colors and patterns of your light show for the perfect party vibe.
  • PARTY LIGHTS: Every kind of music is better with a dynamic light show. Colors synched to the beat make you want to move your feet, while customizable strobes and patterns dazzle your eyes. It's a unique, immersive audiovisual experience that transforms any party into a work of art.

JBL describes the Club 120 as suitable for a park or seaside gathering and says its IPX4 splashproofing means “a little rain won’t stop the fun.” That is limited splash-protection language: IPX4 is not an immersion rating. At 11.05 kg, it also asks more of whoever has to carry it than the 6.2 kg Encore Essential 2.

Consider the Xtreme 4 when carry and water protection matter more

The Xtreme 4 is a different kind of outdoor choice: JBL lists IP67 protection, a shoulder strap, and up to 24 hours of playtime. Those features make it worth considering when strap carry and a higher stated protection rating are more important than dedicated party-box features. JBL’s output figures differ between AC and battery mode, so they should not be read as a single directly comparable output number. The available material does not establish that it offers the Encore’s or Club 120’s party-lighting and karaoke-oriented feature set.

JBL PartyBox Stage 320 - Portable Party Speaker with Telescopic Handle & Wide, Sturdy Wheels, Powerful JBL Pro Sound, Futuristic lightshow, Up to 18 Hours of Play time, Splash Proof (Black)
  • Powerful JBL Pro Sound: Two 6.5" woofers that deliver clean, precise, deep bass even at top volume and a pair of 25mm dome tweeters that produce crystal clear highs. Loud enough to fill a space the size of a tennis court with music.
  • Futuristic lightshow: Take all that sound and add a thrilling lightshow featuring starry lights, cool light trails, and strobe light effects—all synced to your beat.
  • Up to 18 hours of play time: Party from dusk till dawn with up to 18 hours on a single charge. Not enough? Swap out the replaceable battery and keep on dancing. 10 min fast charge gets you an extra 2 hours of playtime.Replaceable battery sold separately
  • Telescopic handle and wide, sturdy wheels: Roll up to the party with wide, sturdy wheels and an easy-to-grip handle that telescopes up when you need it and down when you don't.
  • Splash proof: Whether you're partying with friends in the park or by the seaside, the JBL PartyBox Stage 320 is IPX4 splashproof, means a little rain won't stop the fun.

The 24-hour duration is JBL’s maximum claim, not a promise of that runtime at high volume. As with the other models, the cited product page does not provide a controlled, side-by-side test against the Encore Essential 2.

Consider the Boombox 4 if IP68 is your deciding factor

JBL lists the Boombox 4 as IP68 water- and dust-resistant and provides separate output ratings for AC and battery operation. That makes its stated protection class a point of distinction for an outdoor setting where water and dust exposure are central concerns. The cited official listing does not establish its weight, runtime, or comparative listening performance, so those factors cannot be ranked against the Encore Essential 2 from this information.

How to decide for your setting

  • Need party lighting and multiple live inputs? The Club 120 is the strongest match among these alternatives based on its listed features.
  • Need an easier carry with a strap and higher stated protection? Consider the Xtreme 4, while recognizing that it is not a like-for-like party-box replacement.
  • Is IP68 the deciding specification? The Boombox 4 is the option here with that manufacturer-listed rating; check the product’s current documentation for details relevant to your exposure conditions.
  • Will the speaker face splashes or possible immersion? Do not treat IPX4 as suitable for submersion. IP ratings describe defined protection classes, not a blanket promise of safety in every outdoor condition.
  • Does listed wattage decide it? It should not by itself. The cited pages do not provide controlled, same-method loudness or sound-quality comparisons.
