The best iced espresso machine depends on how you want your drink made: dedicated cold extraction, hot espresso served over ice, or a broader machine that also makes cold brew and other iced drinks. For dedicated cold espresso, the Sage Barista Touch Impress with Cold Extraction is a notable option; for automated drinks and a wide menu, consider the De’Longhi Eletta Explore. Those are different approaches, not interchangeable versions of the same feature.
First, decide what “iced espresso” means to you
Machines use several methods to make cold coffee drinks, and the names matter. A drink made by extracting espresso with cold water is not the same as hot espresso poured over ice, and neither is necessarily cold brew.
- Cold espresso or cold extraction: Espresso-style extraction made with cold or room-temperature water. The Sage Barista Touch Impress with Cold Extraction is presented by the Ideal Home guide as a machine with dedicated cold espresso and cold brew settings.
- Hot espresso over ice: The machine pulls a hot espresso shot, which is served over ice. This can be convenient, but it is not cold extraction.
- Brew-over-ice coffee: A machine brews coffee intended to be poured over ice. It is a distinct method from espresso.
- Cold brew: Coffee extracted with cold or room-temperature water. De’Longhi describes the Eletta Explore’s cold brew as low-pressure extraction using room-temperature water. Its product page claims it can make cold brew in under three minutes; that timing is a manufacturer claim, not an independently verified result here.
For a useful comparison, check the actual brew method described by the manufacturer rather than assuming every “iced” preset produces cold espresso. The Ideal Home iced coffee maker guide also separates cold brew from coffee specially brewed to serve over ice.

What to compare before you buy
Cold-drink method
Match the machine’s method to the drinks you actually make. If you specifically want cold-extracted espresso, look for an explicit cold espresso or cold-extraction setting. If espresso over ice or brew-over-ice coffee is enough, a machine with those presets may suit you without offering cold espresso extraction.

Hands-on work and automation
A manual espresso workflow gives you more involvement in preparing each drink. Bean-to-cup machines automate more of the process, while capsule systems trade some flexibility for a simpler routine. Confirm which steps remain manual, such as handling the portafilter, filling the milk container, or cleaning the brew components.
Milk drinks
Check whether the machine has a steam wand, an automatic milk system, cold foam, or no integrated milk function. Those features serve different routines: hot steamed milk does not automatically mean the machine can make cold foam. For the Eletta Explore, De’Longhi lists separate LatteCrema Hot and Cool systems on its Canadian product page.

Menu, footprint, and upkeep
A broader menu can be useful if one appliance will handle espresso, drip coffee, cold brew, and other drinks. It can also mean a larger machine and more parts to set up or clean. Measure your counter space and check the manufacturer’s instructions for routine cleaning before deciding that a long drink list is an advantage.
