The best home printer in Australia depends on what you print. The Epson EcoTank ET-2850 is the researched pick for regular home-office documents and lower ongoing ink costs; the Epson EcoTank ET-8550 is the choice for photo printing up to A3; the Kyocera Ecosys P5026cdw targets faster colour documents; and the Brother MFC-L8395CDW is aimed at heavier all-in-one workloads. These are different fits, not a single winner for every household.
The recommendations reflect TechRadar’s Australian guide, last updated 3 July 2026. TechRadar’s editorial choices are not independent test results from this article. Match the model to your print mix, check replacement-supply costs as well as the purchase price, and confirm Australian availability and the exact model number before buying.
How to choose the best home printer
Start with the pages you actually print, rather than the printer’s advertised speed or a low purchase price. An inkjet is a natural fit when you need colour and photos; the shortlist also includes laser models for text-heavy or speed-oriented document printing. Consider the cost and type of replacement ink or toner alongside how often you print.
Manufacturer page yields are standardized estimates, not a promise of what a household will get. Epson says actual yield varies with print content, settings, environmental conditions, printing frequency and maintenance. Its Australian EcoTank range lists refill bottles from AUD $17.99, a changeable starting price that does not represent the full refill set for every model. Check the consumable code for the exact printer before ordering.

- Space and support: Check the printer’s physical size and the warranty terms for the exact model and seller.
CHOICE says its printer testing considers quality, ease of use and running costs. Its ease-of-use checks include setup, document and 4×6-inch photo printing, clearing jams, changing ink, and configuring wired and wireless connections. Those criteria are useful when comparing printers, but detailed comparative scores are not included in the sources cited here.
Best home printers in Australia for 2026
| Priority | Model | Why it stands out | Trade-offs to weigh |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular home-office printing | Epson EcoTank ET-2850 | Compact A4 colour three-in-one with print, copy and scan; automatic duplex printing, high-resolution scanning, Wi-Fi and AirPrint. TechRadar highlights its large ink supply and low cost per page. | Basic feature set and no front input tray, according to TechRadar. Verify the Australian model suffix, price and current supplies. |
| Home photos and larger prints | Epson EcoTank ET-8550 | Six-colour Claria refillable ink system, printing up to A3, and 100-sheet capacity. Epson positions it as a home-and-photo model with A3+ photo support. | Higher initial price and larger footprint; TechRadar says the scanner handles smaller than A3. The A4 ET-8500 is the smaller-format sibling cited by the guide. |
| Speed-oriented colour documents | Kyocera Ecosys P5026cdw | Colour laser printer with a listed speed of 26 pages per minute (ppm) and 250-sheet capacity, according to TechRadar. | Compare toner costs and footprint, and consider whether the purchase price makes sense for your household’s print volume. TechRadar describes the display as fiddly. |
| Heavier home-office all-in-one work | Brother MFC-L8395CDW | Colour LED/laser all-in-one. TechRadar lists 31 ppm mono speed and 250+30-sheet capacity, and highlights expandable design, two-sided scanning, NFC and USB Host. | TechRadar notes high running costs and curling with thick paper. Its small- and medium-business positioning may exceed typical home needs. |
The speed and capacity figures above are those listed by TechRadar for the models in its guide; they are not a guarantee of real-world household throughput. Compare the exact specifications for the Australian model being sold.
Best home-office printer for regular documents
Epson EcoTank ET-2850
The ET-2850 is the shortlist’s practical fit for a household that prints documents regularly, wants colour and needs occasional scanning or copying. Its automatic duplex feature can print on both sides without manually turning pages, while Wi-Fi and AirPrint support wireless printing. TechRadar describes the model as compact and calls out its ink supply and low cost per page.

Epson Australia lists stated yield of 6,500 black and 5,200 colour pages for the included ink, and 7,500 black and 6,000 colour pages per replacement bottle set. These are Epson estimates, not guaranteed household results; actual yield depends on content, settings, conditions, frequency and maintenance. Epson’s cost-per-page comparisons use specified assumptions and should not be generalized to every tank printer, laser model, colour page or print pattern.

Epson’s Australian range includes other models with different combinations of functions and connectivity; a higher model number does not by itself establish which features are included.
Best home printer for photos
Epson EcoTank ET-8550
For photo-focused households, TechRadar’s pick is the ET-8550. Its six-colour Claria refillable ink system and support for printing up to A3 make it the shortlist’s option for larger, more photo-oriented output. Epson describes it as a home-and-photo printer with A3+ photo support.
Rank #3
- AFFORDABLE ALL-IN-ONE FOR HOME AND HOME OFFICE: Print, copy, and scan on one compact wireless printer designed for everyday home office printing, schoolwork, documents, and reports. Produce beautiful prints for results that stand out.
- EASY TO USE WITH CLOUD APP CONNECTIONS: Print from and scan to popular Cloud apps(2), including Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, OneDrive, and more from the simple-to-use 1.8” color display on your printer.
- FULL-SIZE FEATURES IN A COMPACT DESIGN: This printer includes automatic duplex (2-sided) printing, a 20-sheet single-sided Automatic Document Feeder (ADF)(3), and a 150-sheet paper tray(3). Engineered to print at fast speeds of up to 16 pages per minute (ppm) in black and up to 9 ppm in color(4).
- MULTIPLE CONNECTION OPTIONS: Connect your way. Interface with your printer on your wireless network or via USB.
- MOBILE PRINTING MADE EASY: Go mobile with the Brother Mobile Connect app(5) that delivers easy onscreen menu navigation for printing, copying, scanning, and device management from your mobile device. Monitor your ink usage with Page Gauge to help ensure you don’t run out(6).
Allow for the higher initial cost and the space it takes up. The scanner is smaller than A3, according to TechRadar, so the printer’s large-format photo capability does not mean you can scan an A3 original on its flatbed. If A4 output is enough and a smaller format better fits your space, the guide identifies the ET-8500 as a similar-performance sibling; check its exact Australian specifications before deciding.
When a colour laser makes more sense
Kyocera Ecosys P5026cdw
The P5026cdw is worth considering if speed-oriented colour documents matter more than photo printing. TechRadar lists 26 ppm and a 250-sheet capacity for this colour laser option. The figures are useful for comparing the listed models, but household results depend on the job and operating conditions.
Laser is not automatically the cheaper choice: compare the printer’s upfront price with the cost of compatible toner and your actual print volume. Also make sure its footprint and control display suit the place you plan to use it; TechRadar calls the display fiddly.

When a larger all-in-one is justified
Brother MFC-L8395CDW
The Brother MFC-L8395CDW is the shortlist’s heavier-duty choice. TechRadar describes it as a colour LED/laser all-in-one and lists mono speed of 31 ppm and 250+30-sheet capacity. Two-sided scanning, NFC, USB Host and an expandable design may be useful in a busy home office or small business.
For a typical household, those capabilities may be more printer than necessary. TechRadar flags high running costs and curling on thick paper, so weigh the extra functions against expected use and the supplies budget before choosing it.

Do not assume that every printer in a family includes the same facilities. Epson’s Australian EcoTank range spans print-only devices, print/copy/scan models, units with an ADF or fax, and photo-focused models. Its table varies by model on automatic two-sided printing, Ethernet, Wi-Fi Direct, AirPrint, ISO speed, input capacity and stated ink yield. Check the current product listing for the exact model and local availability rather than inferring features from the family name.
