You do not have to buy a flagship graphics card to get strong high-end gaming performance. The Radeon RX 9070 XT and GeForce RTX 5070 Ti are the main alternatives to compare at the upper end; the Radeon RX 9070 and GeForce RTX 5070 are worth considering if a lower price matters more. Which is the better buy depends on local pricing, the games you play, and whether you value ray tracing, upscaling, memory capacity, or other workloads.

Which graphics cards are worth considering?

Priority Starting point What to check
High-end gaming below flagship level AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT Its local price versus the RTX 5070 Ti, performance in your games’ ray-tracing modes, and the card’s power and size requirements.
A lower-cost AMD option AMD Radeon RX 9070 The price difference from the XT and RTX 5070, your target resolution, and whether 16 GB of memory benefits your games.
NVIDIA features at a midrange tier NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Its price versus the RX 9070, its 12 GB of memory, and DLSS and ray-tracing performance in your games.
NVIDIA features at a higher tier NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti The premium over the RX 9070 XT and performance in the ray-tracing or creator applications you use.

These are comparison starting points, not a universal ranking. Tom’s Hardware describes the RX 9070 and RTX 5070 as close competitors, and its 2026 raster hierarchy places the RX 9070 XT behind the RTX 5070 Ti. TechSpot characterizes the XT and Ti as similar overall, with the advantage varying by workload and price. Tom’s Hardware’s GPU hierarchy and TechSpot’s GPU comparisons provide context, but their results should be weighed against your own games and settings.

RX 9070 XT vs. RTX 5070 Ti: the high-end alternatives

The Radeon RX 9070 XT is a credible option if you want a high-end card without moving to a flagship. The RTX 5070 Ti is the other key choice: Tom’s Hardware’s 2026 raster ranking puts it ahead of the XT, while TechSpot finds the two broadly similar overall. That does not make either the automatic winner. Differences in ray-tracing workload, game, price, and test settings can change which makes more sense for you.

Compare both cards in games you actually play, including the resolution and graphics settings you expect to use. If ray tracing or path tracing is important, look for results from those modes rather than relying on an aggregate raster ranking. Also compare exact partner-card dimensions, cooling, power requirements, and connectors against your case and power supply.

RX 9070 vs. RTX 5070: when the lower tier is enough

If you are trying to spend less, start by comparing the RX 9070 and RTX 5070 rather than assuming you need an XT or Ti card. Tom’s Hardware calls the two close competitors. Its buying guide notes a memory difference: the RX 9070 has 16 GB of VRAM, while the RTX 5070 has 12 GB. That figure alone does not establish which card will perform better in a particular game; match benchmarks to your resolution, settings, and intended lifespan for the card.

The RTX 5070 may be a better fit if the NVIDIA features you use matter enough to justify its local price. The RX 9070 may be more compelling if its price and 16 GB capacity suit your needs. Neither choice can be settled by a global price ranking: compare in-stock cards in your market, including the specific board variant.

Compare features and performance that affect your games

  • Native raster performance: Compare results without ray tracing and note the games, resolution, and settings used.
  • Ray tracing and path tracing: Results vary by workload. Check the games and modes you plan to play rather than treating one label as a guarantee.
  • Upscaling and frame generation: NVIDIA’s cards offer DLSS capabilities, while AMD’s cards offer FSR. Check feature support and image quality in the specific games you play.
  • Memory: The RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT have 16 GB; the RTX 5070 has 12 GB. Check the capacity of the exact card you are considering and how your games use memory.
  • Creator applications: If you use GPU-accelerated creative software, compare relevant application benchmarks, not just gaming charts.
  • Physical and power fit: Partner models differ in dimensions, cooling, connectors, and power requirements. Confirm compatibility with your case and power supply before buying.

PC Gamer’s 2026 comparisons show that relative results can change from game to game and application to application. Use benchmark tables with settings and a workload mix close to yours; an overall score may conceal a result that matters more to your particular use. PC Gamer’s graphics-card coverage includes comparative testing.

Why launch prices do not tell you what to pay now

Launch prices are historical reference points, not current street-price quotes. AMD presented the RX 9070 XT at a $599 launch price in 2025. NVIDIA announced US starting prices of $749 for the RTX 5070 Ti and $549 for the RTX 5070 in 2025. Those figures do not establish present availability or what a particular board costs today. AMD’s 2025 announcement and NVIDIA’s RTX 5070 announcement give the launch context.

For a dated example of later price movement, PC Gamer’s UK-focused price watch, updated October 1, 2026, reported a recent 27% increase for the RTX 5070. That is a UK-specific report, not evidence of the current price in the US or another market. Its listings and price observations are time-sensitive; check current retailer stock and prices in your country before deciding. PC Gamer’s GPU price-watch coverage.

A practical way to choose

  1. Set your ceiling using local prices. Compare the exact RX 9070 XT, RX 9070, RTX 5070 Ti, and RTX 5070 models available to you. Include shipping, taxes, warranty, and return terms where relevant.
  2. Filter by your games and resolution. Use game-specific results at settings close to the ones you expect to use. Separate raster tests from ray-tracing results.
  3. Decide whether vendor features matter. Check DLSS or FSR availability and behavior in your target games, along with any creator-app support you rely on.
  4. Verify your PC can accommodate the exact board. Check dimensions, cooling clearance, power connectors, and power-supply requirements in the card maker’s specifications.
  5. Pay for a higher tier only for a meaningful gain. If the lower-tier card meets your performance target, a price premium for an XT or Ti model may not be worthwhile; if a particular game or workload benefits substantially, compare that gain with the premium.

What synthetic benchmark scores can—and cannot—tell you

UL Benchmarks’ September 2026 Steel Nomad results were 7,273 for the RX 9070 XT, 6,312 for the RX 9070, 6,967 for the RTX 5070 Ti, and 5,340 for the RTX 5070. These are scores in a synthetic benchmark, not game frame rates. They can offer a like-for-like reference within that test, but they do not replace results from your games or applications.
