What makes a game a Soulslike with gunplay?
“Soulslike with gunplay” is a useful discovery label, not a strict genre formula. To judge how well a game fits, consider three things: how much combat revolves around firearms, whether difficult encounters and checkpoint resets create a Soulslike structure, and how much melee still matters.
Remnant II fits the combination directly. In an Xbox Wire interview, Gunfire Games president David Adams said players make the Souls comparison because of the difficulty and checkpoints that reset the world. He also distinguished the game from Souls titles by pointing to guns, archetypes, randomly generated worlds, and drop-in/drop-out co-op. That makes it a hybrid rather than a straightforward Souls clone.
Best match: Remnant II
Remnant II is the strongest recommendation for a shooter-forward Soulslike experience. Firearms are a core combat option, not a minor tool, but the official description also emphasizes melee combat, large boss battles, and gear choices. You can play solo or team up with two other players, so the same demanding action can be approached alone or cooperatively. The Steam listing also describes solo play and co-op with up to two other players.

Remnant: From the Ashes is the predecessor to Remnant II. Adams said the sequel’s story follows the first game’s final DLC, but also told Xbox Wire that newcomers should be able to start with the sequel without trouble: “We try to keep the stories in our games simple, so players should have no trouble picking it up.”

Play the earlier game if you want to experience the series from the beginning or continue its story in order. If you are mainly interested in Remnant II, the developer’s comments indicate that prior experience is not necessary to follow the sequel.
Soulslike alternative without shooter-led combat: Lies of P
Lies of P is a useful comparison if you want a Soulslike feel and variety in how you build your weapons, but it is not an equivalent gunplay recommendation. Its official description highlights weapon combinations and Legion Arms, not a central firearms combat loop. Consider it when weapon customization and Soulslike action matter more to you than shooting.

How long is Remnant II?
In the July 2023 Xbox Wire interview, Adams estimated the main story at more than 20 hours and completing everything at 60–100 hours, possibly longer. These are the developer’s estimates from that interview, not independently measured playthrough times; the amount of time you spend will depend on how much content you pursue.
