How to choose: what did you like about Vampire Survivors?
The games below differ mainly on four things, so decide which matters most to you:
- Combat input: attacks that fire automatically while you only move, or manual aiming and shooting.
- Extra objectives: pure survival, or side tasks such as mining.
- Build depth: how much the run revolves around combining spells, weapons and upgrades.
- Theme and run length: sci-fi caves, a night-time monster siege, or fantasy spellcraft.
| If you want… | Start with… | Why (per Steam or the official site) |
|---|---|---|
| Automatic attacks plus an environmental objective | Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor | Single-player auto-shooter with mining and resource collection |
| Active aiming and firing | 20 Minutes Till Dawn | Steam lists “Directional aim and active firing” |
| Spells, bosses and build synergies | Soulstone Survivors | Secret spells, craftable weapons, unlockable characters, colossal bosses |
| More options from community suggestions | Brotato or Halls of Torment | Frequently recommended by players; not profiled in detail here |
Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor: auto-shooting with mining
Steam describes this as a single-player survivor-like auto-shooter in which you fight hordes of aliens, upgrade your character, and mine and collect resources in caves. That mining layer is the main difference from Vampire Survivors: the run has a place to go and something to gather, not just a crowd to outlast. Steam lists Funday Games as developer, Ghost Ship Publishing as publisher, and a release date of September 17, 2025.
#1 Best Overall
- Play as an immortal Successor - You are a Successor, an immortal warrior empowered by the gods Lu, Ashuran, and Harnia. When you die, you revive with your gear, runes, and unlocks intact and head back out from Cliffshire to push further into corrupted zones. Choose your Successor - You'll start as the Spellblade and unlock additional Successors as you progress. Each has its own skill tree, weapons, and playstyle
- Playable Classes - Spellblade-Element-focused hybrid with close and mid-range attacks built around fire, frost, and lightning. Berserker - Heavy melee bruiser that trades its own HP and positioning for huge damage and armor. Hunter - Mobile ranged fighter using thrown weapons, poison, and beast abilities to apply damage over time and control space.
- 2D Roguelite Hack-and-Slash Combat - Combat revolves around precise dodges, reading telegraphed attacks, and committing to aggressive combos. Areas are multi-layered 2D stages that reshuffle enemy layouts, hazards, and loot each run. When you fall, you lose gold and temporary bonuses, but your gear and runes stay with you and form the base of your next attempt.
- Loot, Runes, and Artifacts - Hunt Elites and Bosses to claim Rune Stones, then craft them into Legendary and Mythic equipment. Runes and class skill trees interact to define your build, while artifacts you pick up mid-run stack into powerful synergies.
- Bonus Goodie - Poster is packed inside.
Best for: players who like the hands-off combat loop but want a clearer sense of direction during each run.
20 Minutes Till Dawn: you aim and shoot
Steam describes it as a survival roguelite against waves of creatures, with dynamic builds, characters, weapons, runes and special abilities. Its feature list calls out directional aim and active firing, and it describes approachable runs of 10 to 20 minutes. Steam lists flanne as developer and publisher, with a release date of June 8, 2023.

Both appear repeatedly in Steam community threads and genre roundups. In one Steam Community discussion about Halls of Torment, a player literally asks “what do you recommend next?” and the replies include 20 Minutes Till Dawn, Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, Soulstone Survivors and Brotato. That shows these games are commonly mentioned together, but it is anecdotal, not a ranking or a survey. Open each game’s Steam page to check its current features, price and reviews before buying.
