If you mean a free way to supervise your child’s phone openly, Google Family Link is a documented option for supported Android devices. It can help manage apps, set screen-time limits, and view a child’s location after location sharing is enabled. It is parental-control software—not a covert spy app—and it cannot remotely listen to calls or show you what is on your child’s screen.
What is the best free spy app?
For transparent parental supervision of a child’s supported Android device, Google Family Link is a reasonable free starting point. Google documents app management, app-use checks, screen-time limits, and location viewing among its features. The right description is parental controls, not secret surveillance. What can’t a parent see or do?

Check whether your child’s device is supported
Family Link’s availability and capabilities depend on the account, device, region, and the particular supervision function. Google says the service may not be available in every country or region. Its guidance says iPhones, iPads, and computers other than Chromebooks cannot be supervised with Family Link. A covert monitoring app is different from a visible parental-control tool. A paper hosted by the Federal Trade Commission, No Privacy Among Spies: Assessing the Functionality and Insecurity of Consumer Android Spyware Apps, describes spyware that secretly monitors activities such as messages, calls, email, and location and sends data to a remote server. Its findings report privacy weaknesses in the apps examined, including data sent without encryption or stored in poorly protected cloud systems. Set up supervision transparently
- Review Google’s Family Link setup and compatibility guidance for the child’s account, device, and region.
