For Android, start with Flightradar24 if you want a live air-traffic map, or FlightAware if you want flight-status updates and alerts. On iPhone, Flighty is another strong fit for trip-focused alerts and itinerary tools. Flighty is not currently available for Android. These recommendations compare features documented by the app makers; they are not results of independent accuracy or speed tests.
Which flight-tracking app should you choose?

All three can help answer “Where is this flight?” The differences are what they emphasize: a visual air-traffic experience, operational flight updates, or a more integrated iPhone trip workflow.
Flightradar24: best for a live map and aircraft exploration
Flightradar24’s official app page lists versions for iOS and Android. Its live map shows air traffic, and selecting a flight provides details such as route and estimated arrival. You can search by flight number, call sign, route, or airline, and view airport arrival and departure information.
For aviation enthusiasts, the app also describes aircraft details, 3D views, augmented-reality discovery of nearby flights, and playback of past flights. These features make it a natural pick if browsing aircraft and watching traffic move across a map matters as much as following one trip.

Historical playback depends on the plan
Flightradar24’s feature and plan information describes different historical playback windows: seven days for Basic, 90 days for Silver, 365 days for Gold, and three years for Business. Subscription features and prices can change, so check the current plan display in your region before subscribing.
FlightAware: best for flight status and operational changes
FlightAware’s mobile app page lists iPhone and Android apps. Its feature set is oriented toward monitoring flights: airline, charter, private, and general aviation tracking; nearby aircraft; airport activity; and full-screen maps with NEXRAD weather.

For airline flights, FlightAware lists status information, gate and terminal details and changes, delays, cancellations, airborne weather, and connections. Its notifications can cover estimated departure, schedule changes, departures and arrivals, airport delays, and gate or terminal changes. That makes it a practical starting point when you mainly need to keep tabs on a particular flight and receive updates.
Flighty: best for iPhone trip alerts and itinerary tools
Flighty is an iPhone option, but not an Android one. Its official platform support page says it is available across Apple devices and has no current plans for an Android version, while leaving open the possibility of reevaluating that later. Treat this as Flighty’s current statement rather than a permanent guarantee.

Flighty offers flight tracking in its free tier. The company lists Pro features including alerts, Live Activities, delay and gate predictions, airport information, connection assistance, calendar sync, and email or TripIt itinerary imports. Flighty’s pricing page listed Pro at $4.99 per month or $59.99 billed annually when accessed on October 4, 2026; prices may vary by region or change, so check the current offer in the app or store. Flighty says its Pro alerts can arrive before airline alerts and promotes its data as pilot-grade. Those are vendor claims, not independently verified comparisons: no universal conclusion about alert speed, accuracy, or route coverage follows from them.

How to pick for your trip
- You want to watch aircraft or browse air traffic: choose Flightradar24 for its map, aircraft details, and exploration features.
- You want status changes and airport or gate updates: consider FlightAware for its documented notification and operational-status features.
- You use an iPhone and want trip-oriented features: compare Flighty’s free tracking with its paid Pro tools, especially if you value itinerary imports, connection assistance, or predictions.
- You use Android: shortlist Flightradar24 and FlightAware; Flighty does not currently offer an Android version.
- You need booking management or a boarding pass: keep the airline’s app as well. Flighty itself advises users to retain it for boarding passes, status, and booking management; a tracker is a companion, not a replacement for airline services (Flighty’s comparison page).
What flight trackers can—and cannot—tell you
Feature lists explain what each company says its app offers; they do not establish that one app is universally more accurate or faster. No independent comparison here measured notification latency or coverage on specific routes. For a decision that depends on a particular airport or flight, compare the app’s current features and alerts with the airline’s own updates.
Offline information also needs interpretation. Flighty says its offline display shows the most recent data it received while online; onboard Wi-Fi may allow it to refresh. In other words, an offline screen can show latest-known information, not uninterrupted live tracking without connectivity (Flighty’s offline-use help page).
