The best compact workstation for running AI models locally depends on the model, runtime, and workload—not just the largest memory figure. The strongest options in the available specifications are NVIDIA’s DGX Spark and ASUS Ascent GX10, built around the GB10 platform, and AMD Ryzen AI Max+ systems such as Framework Desktop and HP Z2 Mini G1a. Compare the memory your chosen runtime can actually allocate, software compatibility, and the exact configuration before buying.
Compact workstations at a glance
| System | Published configuration and size | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| NVIDIA DGX Spark | NVIDIA’s hardware guide lists 128GB LPDDR5x unified memory with 273GB/s bandwidth and a 150 × 150 × 50.5mm enclosure. NVIDIA’s product page also lists a 64GB option, so check the SKU. | Investigate first if you want NVIDIA’s local AI platform and software ecosystem. NVIDIA names PyTorch and TRT-LLM support in its hardware guide. |
| ASUS Ascent GX10 | ASUS specifies 128GB coherent unified memory; ASUS announced a 64GB variant in October 2026. | A GB10 alternative to compare with DGX Spark. Check the exact configuration, regional availability, and price. |
| Framework Desktop | Framework lists a Ryzen AI Max+ 395 configuration with 128GB memory, up to 96GB graphics-addressable memory, a Mini-ITX mainboard, and dimensions of 96.8 × 205.5 × 226.1mm. | Consider it if a large shared-memory pool and a compact PC platform suit your setup. Framework lists llama.cpp, LM Studio, and Ollama among local AI software options. |
| HP Z2 Mini G1a | HP’s US store lists a configuration with Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 395, Radeon 8060S graphics, and 128GB memory. | Worth comparing if you prefer a business workstation vendor. Verify the regional SKU and how much memory is available to the GPU and runtime. |
These are not directly ranked by speed: the available material does not establish an independent, standardized comparison of all four systems on the same model, quantization, context length, runtime, and power conditions. Prices, stock, and regional configurations also vary; check the exact SKU with the manufacturer or seller.
How to choose for your AI workload
Start with the model and runtime
Identify the model architecture, quantization, operating system, and inference or fine-tuning software you plan to use. Then verify that the specific combination is supported on the machine. NVIDIA’s local AI guide points buyers to operating system, GPU or unified memory, model size, and workflow as selection factors. A platform’s ability to run one model does not guarantee that it supports every model or framework you may want.
Check usable memory, not only installed memory
Memory capacity is often decisive for local inference, but installed system memory is not identical to memory available for model weights. The model also needs space for its context and runtime overhead, and the graphics stack may have its own allocation. Ask how much memory the intended software can address and whether the system must reserve part of it for other work. No single parameter-count formula in the available specifications can determine fit for every architecture, quantization, and context length.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Decide whether fitting a model or serving it quickly matters more
A larger memory pool may let a system load a model that otherwise would not fit, but it does not by itself promise low latency or high throughput. Consider your intended context length, response speed, number of concurrent users, and whether you will run inference, fine-tune, or both. NVIDIA says DGX Spark supports inference on models up to 200 billion parameters and fine-tuning up to 70 billion; these are manufacturer capability claims, not guarantees of speed, context length, quantization, or compatibility for every model. NVIDIA also describes DGX Spark as delivering “up to 1 petaflop” of AI performance, accelerated by the GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip; that is likewise a vendor-stated peak claim, not a cross-system benchmark. See NVIDIA’s announcement.
Compare software ecosystem, space, support, and cost
Confirm framework and model support before paying for hardware. NVIDIA emphasizes its AI software stack and names PyTorch and TRT-LLM in its hardware guide; Framework lists llama.cpp, LM Studio, and Ollama among its local AI software options. Also weigh enclosure size, power and noise needs, connectivity, upgradeability, support arrangements, and total cost for the exact configuration. The figures above do not establish a consistent price comparison.

What the named options offer
NVIDIA DGX Spark: a compact GB10 system
NVIDIA’s DGX Spark Hardware Overview, updated September 10, 2026, lists 128GB LPDDR5x unified system memory at 273GB/s and a 150 × 150 × 50.5mm enclosure. Since NVIDIA’s product page also lists a 64GB option, make sure you are comparing the intended memory configuration rather than relying on the product name alone. Spark is a natural candidate when the NVIDIA platform and named framework support match your workflow.
ASUS Ascent GX10: another GB10 choice
ASUS specifies 128GB of coherent unified memory for the Ascent GX10. ASUS announced a 64GB configuration in October 2026 in its press release. Compare the exact memory tier, local availability, and price with DGX Spark; the shared GB10 platform alone does not establish identical software support or performance for every configuration.

Framework Desktop: AMD shared-memory configuration
Framework lists a Ryzen AI Max+ 395 Desktop configuration with 128GB memory and up to 96GB of graphics-addressable memory. Its product materials give dimensions of 96.8 × 205.5 × 226.1mm and identify a Mini-ITX mainboard. See the machine-learning overview and specifications. “Up to 96GB” is the graphics-addressable amount in that listed configuration, not a claim that the entire 128GB is available to model weights.
HP Z2 Mini G1a: a business-workstation option
HP’s US Z2 Mini G1a workstation listing includes a Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 395, Radeon 8060S graphics, and a 128GB configuration. Confirm the precise regional SKU and memory allocation before assuming it offers the same usable capacity as another 128GB system. The published listing does not make it a universal performance choice over the other compact systems.

How to interpret vendor comparisons
AMD reports an average of 1.7 times more tokens per dollar for a Ryzen AI Max+ system than for a 128GB DGX Spark across AMD’s selected tests of GPT-OSS 20B, GPT-OSS 120B, GLM 4.5 Air, and DeepSeek R1 Distill 70B, using LM Studio and a llama.cpp-based application. That result is AMD’s own comparison, not an independent benchmark or a general outcome across workloads, configurations, and software. Read the scope in AMD’s article; it is not enough to make a blanket speed or value ranking.
When a conventional GeForce RTX workstation may be enough
For smaller models, a conventional workstation with a GeForce RTX GPU is another route. NVIDIA’s developer guide lists systems with 6–32GB of VRAM as options. That is NVIDIA guidance, not an assurance that every model in a given size class will fit: check the model, quantization, context, runtime, and available VRAM for the particular system.
