The Google Pixel 10a is the clearest documented lower-cost alternative to the Galaxy S26: Tom’s Guide’s 2026 Android-phone roundup lists it at $499, compared with a reported $999 starting price for the 256GB Galaxy S26 in October 2026. It is a midrange phone, not a like-for-like replacement. If you want Samsung’s software, the Galaxy S25 FE is another possibility, but its reported price near $450 needs checking against current listings.
Which Galaxy S26 price are you trying to beat?
Samsung’s February 2026 US launch announcement set starting prices at $899.99 for the Galaxy S26, $1,099.99 for the S26+, and $1,299.99 for the S26 Ultra. Tom’s Guide reported on October 1, 2026 that starting prices for the 256GB versions had risen to $999, $1,199, and $1,399, respectively. The same report listed 512GB versions at $1,199 for the S26, $1,399 for the S26+, and $1,599 for the S26 Ultra, and the 1TB Ultra at $1,999. These are US prices; the later figures are Tom’s Guide’s report, not Samsung’s original launch prices. Samsung’s launch announcement and Tom’s Guide’s October price report provide the respective figures.
Match the alternative to the S26 model you would otherwise buy. The base S26, Plus, and Ultra have substantially different starting prices, sizes, and feature sets, so a phone that is much cheaper than the Ultra may not be the best value substitute for the base model.
Google Pixel 10a: the best-documented lower-cost option
Tom’s Guide’s 2026 roundup calls the Pixel 10a a value option and cites a $499 price. Against the $999 starting price Tom’s Guide reported for the 256GB base S26 in October 2026, that is a $500 difference using those cited figures. The $499 is a roundup price, not a live retailer quote, so check the current price, storage, seller, unlocked or carrier version, compatibility, and stock before buying.

The Pixel 10a is a midrange Android phone. Google’s official specifications give it a 6.3-inch pOLED display at 1080 × 2424 resolution with a 60–120Hz refresh rate, Gorilla Glass 7i, a Tensor G4 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB or 256GB storage. Google also lists a typical 5100mAh battery, Qi wireless charging, and charging to up to 50% in about 30 minutes when using a separately sold 45W USB-C PPS charger or higher. Its rear cameras are a 48MP wide and 13MP ultrawide, with Super Res Zoom up to 8x. See Google’s Pixel hardware specifications for the full details.
Where the Pixel may fit
- Consider it if your priority is spending less on a capable Android phone and you do not need an S26-tier feature set.
- Its stated camera setup includes wide and ultrawide cameras; the supplied specifications do not list a dedicated telephoto camera. If optical telephoto zoom is important, verify the camera system on the exact phone you are considering.
- Its screen size, resolution, refresh range, RAM, battery capacity, and charging details offer concrete comparison points, but specifications alone do not establish which phone will feel faster or last longer for your use.
Galaxy S25 FE: consider it if you prefer Samsung
Tom’s Guide’s 2026 roundup identifies the Galaxy S25 FE as a midrange alternative and says it can be found near $450. That is a roundup observation, not a confirmed current official price or guaranteed offer. The S25 FE is a prior-generation Samsung model; check live listings for price, availability, configuration, and seller, and look up the support information for the specific version before purchase. The source does not establish a current price or support horizon. Tom’s Guide’s 2026 Android-phone roundup is the source for the cited price observation.

What the published performance and battery tests show
Tom’s Guide describes an Android test process involving multi-day real-world use, Geekbench, 3DMark, an Adobe Premiere Rush editing test when supported, display lab measurements, and battery testing. In its published table, the Galaxy S26 Ultra scored 3,785 single-core and 11,563 multicore in Geekbench, and 179 in 3DMark Wild Life. The Pixel 10a scored 1,694, 4,501, and 58, respectively. Battery-test times were 16:10 for the S26 Ultra and 15:16 for the Pixel 10a.
Those are Tom’s Guide test results, not guaranteed everyday outcomes. The Samsung phone in this comparison is the Ultra, not the base S26, so these results do not establish the performance gap between the Pixel 10a and every S26 model. Tom’s Guide’s roundup explains its method and reports the results at Best Android phones 2026 tested and rated.

How to choose before you buy
- Set the comparison model. Decide whether your reference is the S26, S26+, or S26 Ultra; their reported October starting prices range from $999 to $1,399.
- Compare checkout prices, not headline prices. Match storage capacity and unlocked or carrier versions. Account for trade-in requirements and promotions, and confirm the final price and stock with the retailer.
- Prioritize the features you use. Compare display dimensions and quality, camera versatility and telephoto needs, performance, battery and charging, storage, and software preference. For the Pixel’s listed specifications, use Google’s official page; for the S25 FE, verify the exact listing and version.
- Choose based on the trade-off. The Pixel 10a has the clearest documented price and specifications here, but it is a midrange alternative. The S25 FE may appeal if you want Samsung, but its near-$450 figure is not a verified current offer.
