There is no one best camera setup for every Samsung Galaxy Z Fold. Start with the built-in Camera app, then change settings to address a specific need: Auto HDR for difficult light, Photo softening for a less sharpened look, Quick tap shutter for faster capture, or focus priority when a stationary subject matters more than speed. Menu names and availability vary by model, region, and software version, so use your phone’s own Camera menus as the final guide.
Which camera settings are worth changing first?
Samsung’s Camera Assistant options adjust how the camera behaves; they are choices to test for a particular scene, not a preset that improves every photo. On the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra support page, Samsung gives this path: Camera > Quick controls > Settings > Camera Assistant. If Camera Assistant is not installed, that page says to install it when prompted. Your model may use different labels or offer a different set of options.

How should you use the built-in camera modes?
Photo and Video are standard modes. Samsung also describes Pro, Portrait, Food, Slow Motion, and Hyperlapse, while additional choices such as Expert RAW, Pro Video, Night, Panorama, Portrait Video, Dual Recording, and Single Take depend on the model. Check the modes shown in your Camera app rather than assuming a feature is available on every Fold.
Choose the framing before adding zoom
For a wider composition, select the ultra-wide lens option if your model has one; Samsung gives 0.6 as an example on supported devices, not a universal label. You can also adjust magnification with the on-screen zoom dial. Zoom labels and available lenses differ across generations, so rely on the choices shown on your screen.

Use automatic modes for everyday shooting
For ordinary snapshots, Photo mode lets the phone handle exposure and focus without requiring manual adjustments. Try Portrait or Food when you want the effect or scene-specific treatment those modes provide. Use specialized modes such as Slow Motion or Hyperlapse when their capture style fits the subject.
How can the Fold’s screens help with framing?
Show a subject the Cover Screen Preview
On supported models, Cover Screen Preview displays a live camera preview on the cover screen. It is useful for portraits and group photos because people in front of the camera can check their framing and adjust their positions before you take the shot.

Set up hands-free shooting with Flex Mode
Samsung describes partly folding a Galaxy foldable into an L shape to prop it up for hands-free camera use, with the image on the upper screen and controls below. Put the phone on a stable surface and confirm that the Camera app and device support the feature. App and device compatibility varies; Samsung’s cited Flex Mode page says it is not supported on the Galaxy Z TriFold or Z Fold8.
When should you use Pro mode or Expert RAW?
Pro mode: manual control in the Camera app
Samsung says Pro mode lets you adjust settings including shutter speed, exposure, filters, and white balance. Manual control can help when you want to shape a capture deliberately, but it requires more decisions than automatic Photo mode. If you are unsure which setting to change, begin in Photo mode and use Pro only when you have a specific adjustment in mind.

Expert RAW: files intended for editing
Expert RAW provides RAW files for high-resolution HDR photography and detailed editing, rather than a straightforward point-and-share workflow. Samsung Japan’s support page, updated August 18, 2026, lists Galaxy Z Fold2 5G and Fold3 through Fold8 models, including Fold8 Ultra. Because this is regional Samsung guidance, installation and availability can depend on the device and region. Expert RAW is an option for people prepared to edit their images, not a requirement for everyday photos.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold7 guidance gives this example path: Camera > Quick controls > Settings > Advanced video options, where HDR can be enabled. Check your own model’s menus because the instructions are specific to Fold7 and options may differ. HDR video can be useful when the intended viewing device supports it, but Samsung warns that 10-bit HDR videos may not play on devices that lack compatibility. The Fold7 guidance also describes an on-device conversion path to SDR for sharing with incompatible devices.

What to check before changing settings for a poor result
- Clean the lens: Smudges can reduce image quality. Samsung recommends cleaning the lens and adjusting shooting conditions, such as changing your angle or avoiding strong light sources.
- Check for a dark preview: If Camera Assistant’s Advanced Photo mode controls are limiting shutter speed or ISO, Samsung says that can affect brightness. The support guidance recommends setting Minimum shutter speed and Maximum ISO to None if you prefer a brighter preview. The trade-off is that those limits may otherwise help reduce blur and noise.
- Wait out possible condensation: If the camera looks foggy or hazy after a temperature change, Samsung says condensation may be responsible and advises letting it clear naturally.
