Which tool should a small team choose?
Choose Jira Product Discovery if you can use its free creator allowance
Atlassian lists a Free plan for up to three creators, with contributors free. That can make it an economical starting point when only a few people need to create or manage product ideas and a larger group mainly needs to contribute. The paid Standard and Premium figures are per creator per month, so count creators—not everyone who might view or contribute—when estimating the bill. Choose Aha! Roadmaps if you need a wider planning suite
Aha! Roadmaps covers more than idea tracking: Aha! describes capabilities spanning ideas, whiteboards, knowledge, strategy, prioritization, release plans, and dependencies. Its published Roadmaps price is $18 per user per month with annual billing or $23 per user per month with monthly billing. Aha! also says Roadmaps integrates with more than 30 tools, including Jira, Azure DevOps, Google Analytics, Rally, and Slack. Compare Productboard when customer insight is central
Productboard remains a relevant benchmark for teams that need feedback and customer insights alongside prioritization and roadmaps. Its current plan page describes Business and Enterprise capabilities, including Spark AI across displayed paid plans, with feature availability varying by plan. It also lists integrations such as Amplitude and Mixpanel at Business. The page says pricing is based on makers but directs prospects to request a demo rather than publishing a price, so ask for a quote instead of estimating from outdated tables. How to compare the real cost
- Count editors by the vendor’s billing unit. Jira Product Discovery distinguishes creators from free contributors; Productboard describes pricing based on makers; Aha! Roadmaps publishes a per-user price and has add-on arrangements. Count the people who actually need to edit or manage records.
- Match the billing cadence and team size. Compare the same monthly or annual billing basis, the same number of paid seats, and required add-ons. A free tier and a paid suite are not comparable if they provide different scope or capacity.
- Map the tool to your current stack. Jira Product Discovery directly connects to Jira and other Atlassian Cloud products. Aha! says Roadmaps integrates with more than 30 tools. Productboard lists integrations including Amplitude and Mixpanel at Business. Avoid paying for a separate workflow if your existing systems already handle the work you need.
- Identify the primary job. Decide whether your main need is collecting feedback, managing customer insights, prioritizing ideas, visualizing roadmaps, planning releases, or handing work to delivery teams. A low-cost idea tracker may not replace a full product-management suite.
- Verify AI access and limits. Productboard displays Spark across paid plans, but feature availability differs between Business and Enterprise. Aha! says paid plans provide a shared pool of AI credits; consumption depends on request complexity, and more credits are available for purchase. Confirm which AI functions are included, credit limits, and data handling rather than treating an “AI included” label as a like-for-like feature comparison. - Check governance before choosing the cheapest tier. If you need SSO, provisioning, custom roles, audit controls, or broad stakeholder access, confirm which tier includes each requirement. A lower entry price can be a poor fit if it excludes necessary controls.

Start with Jira Product Discovery if your team fits within its free creator allowance and works in Atlassian Cloud. Consider Aha! Roadmaps when broader planning features justify a per-user subscription, and include Productboard in the comparison when customer insight is a priority—requesting a quote because its current page does not publish a price.
