Among the devices covered here, Apple’s Lightning-generation Magic Trackpad has the lowest stated OS requirement: OS X 10.11 or later. Logitech lists macOS 10.15 or later for the MX Anywhere 3S and MX Master 3S, while Apple’s current USB-C Magic Mouse requires macOS 15.1 or later. Check your Mac’s model, macOS version, Bluetooth support, and the exact accessory generation before buying.
How to choose a Bluetooth mouse or trackpad for an older Intel Mac
“Older Intel Mac” covers machines with different hardware and different maximum macOS versions. First check the version installed on your Mac and whether that model can run the accessory’s stated minimum. A product’s OS requirement is not a guarantee that every Intel Mac can use it: the Mac must also support the required macOS and Bluetooth.
- On your Mac, open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac to see its model and macOS version.
- Compare that version with the minimum in the product’s specification. If your Mac cannot run that macOS version, choose another device.
- Confirm that the product listing is for the exact generation you intend to buy. Connector type and system requirements can differ between generations.
- Decide whether you want a conventional mouse or a gesture-oriented trackpad, and whether you need advanced customization software.
Which devices meet the stated macOS requirements?

Best fit by Mac and usage
For a Mac that cannot run macOS 10.15
The Lightning-generation Magic Trackpad is the strongest fit among these examples if your Mac runs OS X 10.11 or later and supports Bluetooth. Apple’s cited specification sets its minimum at OS X 10.11; this does not establish compatibility with every Mac capable of running that version, so confirm your Mac model and the exact trackpad generation.
For a Mac running macOS 10.15 or later
The MX Anywhere 3S for Mac is the compact mouse option; the MX Master 3S for Mac is the larger option. Logitech lists macOS 10.15 or later for Bluetooth use of both. Advanced customization depends on Logi Options+, so do not assume every extra control will work as desired without checking Logitech’s current software support for your macOS version.

For a Mac running macOS 15.1 or later
The current USB-C Magic Mouse is an option if your Mac supports macOS 15.1 or later. That requirement is substantially newer than the minimums listed for the other examples here, so it is especially important to verify before purchase.
Pairing and using the device wirelessly
Bluetooth accessories need to be paired with the Mac. Apple says paired accessories are remembered and reconnect automatically when powered on and in range. Its Bluetooth setup guidance covers pairing and re-pairing. Apple also notes that its Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad work wirelessly over Bluetooth when turned on and paired.

- If you have a newer Apple input device that supports cable setup, connect it to the Mac with a compatible cable to pair it and charge it before wireless use. The connector must fit both the accessory and your Mac; you may need an adapter.
- For an accessory without a cable-based setup route, use the Mac’s built-in trackpad or another connected pointing device to reach Bluetooth settings and complete pairing.
- If it does not connect, check that Bluetooth is available on the Mac, the accessory is powered on, and it is close enough to the computer. If it was paired before, follow Apple’s instructions to reconnect or pair it again.
